- To make the most out of our 2 weeks in Riga, Latvia, we decided to take a short train ride into the Latvian countryside to visit the BEAUTIFUL town of Sigulda. It's autumn so the colors of the trees are absolutely spectacular and we decided to spend the day hiking.
After arriving in Sigulda, we stop in at a bakery, visit a castle, and then venture into Gauja National Park where we visit a historical cave. It was an incredible day spent in nature!

Autumn in Latvia is so beautiful 😍 What other places have a beautiful autumn that we should experience?
Its so weird seing very familiar places in a vlog...especially from American youtubers
In latvia, can you visit Skriveri? Its an beautiful place!
Yes they do performances on that stage. I`m not sure how and why you have not heard that artists like Rosheen and Rita Ora and countless others have had their concerts there.

Hi there, from Riga! There are a lot of nice cities... Kuldīga, with the wides waterfall in Europe, and Cesis with a nice castle and parks around. And, of course, Ogre. But if you have more time, you can visit Ventspils (3h by bus).
Great that you guys went somewhere outside of Riga, because the real feel of Latvia is in the countryside. Riga is like it's own state..

You're a bit late, the golden season is almost gone.
That cave should be downplayed more and not advertised at all. Every time I hear tourists mention it, I kinda cringe as I know that they expected something more
Yeah we would have to agree. It was the most crowded place we visited and the least impressive
@@JackandGabExplore There is a good reason why it's crowded. See there is a legend about beautiful girl who was killed in that cave. If you would visit Turaidas castle, which is very close to that cave, you would see her grave there, which is more like a memorial.
The legend if you'r interested- After a battle at the foot of Turaida Castle in 1601, the castle clerk, while searching for survivors, found a baby in the arms of its dead mother. He called the child Maija and brought her up as his own. She grew up to be very beautiful and so was known as the "Rose of Turaida". She fell in love with Viktor, the gardener at the castle of Sigulda (opposite Turaida over the Gauja River) and in the autumn of 1620 they prepared to be married. Shortly before the wedding Maija received a letter from Viktor asking her to meet him at the Gutmanis Cave, their usual meeting place. She went to the cave with Lenta, the young daughter of her adoptive father. When she reached it, however, it was not Viktor she encountered but a Polish nobleman or soldier called Adam Jakubowski who was lying in wait for her with the intention of forcing her to be his wife. Maija promised to give him her magic scarf, that had the power to make the wearer immune from injury (in some versions the scarf is impossible to cut through), if he would let her go, and persuaded him to test its power on her. He struck her with an axe and she died, having thus saved her honour.
In the evening Viktor came to the cave and found the body of his betrothed and was accused of the murder. But in court there appeared a witness called Peteris Skudritis, who testified that he had been commissioned by Jakubowski to deliver the fatal letter. Lenta confirmed the course of events. Viktor buried his betrothed near the castle, planted a linden tree on the grave and left the country forever. According to documents in Sigulda's archives the soldier was later caught, tried and hanged for his crime.[1][2] From then on it has been customary for newlyweds to leave flowers on the grave of the Rose of Turaida in hopes of knowing the same eternal love and devotion.
I hope you will visit "The Great Kemeri Bog" or "Ķemeru Purva laipa"... in sunrise it's magical.

I’m glad you went to visit Sigulda. I have spent many months there. I must say as an Englishman the first time I went to the cave was a disappointment, not what it is made out to be. Eklers is probably my most favourite cake shop, it’s so good, especially when they bake something to order for you. It’s a shame you got hassled by drunks, but I would say it’s very unusual for Latvia, although there is a tendency to find rude Russians there, especially in the summertime. The stage in the castle is used for concerts and festivals. There are several good restaurants/bars just outside the town and if you ever go again might well be worth a try. Turaida Castle is well worth a look at as well. Every season is different in Sigulda, and in my view it is a very special place. My wife has a house just outside the town past the Bobsleigh track which is very handy.

Trust me ON the other side of the Park you were there are some drunk People there, Im sorry that you had to experience that and hope you had a wonderful time! P.s drunk People in Sigulda is kinda rare.

Ahhh bummer. We're just glad we got to see it on a pretty day - every other day we were in Latvia was rainy and cold.
Oh, in Sigulda there is a option to go trough real caves. But then with tour guide help you can visit the place. And booking a time for the excursion. And for autumn period it is quite full. Also, option to visit caves in Latvia is Līgatne. For Līgatne you could have enjoyed USSR bunker. Like, that is few meters underground.
But it was good to see you guys visit the place. Latvia is really beautiful in spring and autumn.
So unusual yet comforting to see travel vlogs of Latvia. Glad you got to see it at the best time of the year too. The place with the stage is where LP has performed twice. I saw her there just this summer.

Go to our waterpark in Jūrmala! After that to "Majori" , a place in Jūrmala. Very lovely place to go for a walk and enjoy some time. :)
We didn't end up making it over to Jurmala! It was rainy and cold the rest of our time in Latvia so we did a nightlife tour instead :) That video comes out on Friday!

We have been to Sigulda as well but only Turaida Castle and I have made video with drone shots in my channel. Unfortunately, we could not visit Sigulda castle cause we had to go Tallinn, Estonia but as I see your video I am enjoying how beautiful this place is :) Amazing

I wish you actually got to see Turaida castle complex and I’m SO SORRY you got bad experience in Latvia. ❤️
I would recommend taking a bus tour of Sigulda as you get to see Sigulda castle and Turaida castle which is one of the most impressive castle remains in Latvia. Also, Turaida has large gardens with unique, massive carved stone statues and flower gardens. The bus tour finished with a dinner of traditional Latvian cuisine. You don't get to experience the white birch forest scenery of the countryside from the train. From my many visits in Latvia, you will occasionally run into really drunk Russian guys, even in the morning but more likely in the small towns.

to be fair - you are kind a two weeks late in Sigulda , oktober 1 to 15 is the best time for Golden autum ( with all the added amount of people ofcourse )
Usually its very dirty in the towns and cities and very beautiful in sigulda or daugavpils

Im from Latvia. All small citys and vilages looks like Sigulda. Wery nice city is Ogre 20km from Riga.
Crackers, my favorite ones with an dino pickture on a pack. Among peperoni and dip. Good Idea, never noticed dips are for sell. Sigulda I have not any memories of there. Interesting. But cycling from Cesis is possible to drive one way, other way may not understand train times, and must make 50 km or more. Thats what I heard of that place.
It was a really good picnic and an even better day of exploring!

In Skriveri, actually, there make these carmely chocolate candies. They are famous around the baltic states. Also in skriveri there are museums and beautiful views! Just a recomendation

I feel sorry for your trouble in pizza place, guys! Im local there, I live just out of one of your shots where you walked, and I'm having pizza there with kids quite often. Its deffo not a place where someone would go to get drunk, I guess you just got bad chance, guys!
Why you did not visit Turaida Castle? Right next to the already were.
We were pretty exhausted from lugging all our camera equipment around all day! You'd be surprised how heavy it is :)
