Kia Picanto 1.0 T-GDi GT Line S | 3 Good 3 Bad

- The previous king of cheap thrills - the Suzuki Swift Sport - now has a price tag too high to be considered ‘cheap’. Cue the Kia Picanto GT Line S. With a rev-happy 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and 1,020kg kerb weight, it zips around with glee. What’s more, it has cheeky styling to match, Kia’s usual generous array of equipment, and carries a price tag of £15,000. The only drawback is limited space, being a supermini.

I've just traded my '16 plate SEAT Leon 2.0TDI FR Technology (150bhp) for a Kia Picanto GT-Line S as it's my wife and myself at home now.
I picked up a '21 plate special edition "Bumblebee" which was the last models with the old badge; it has black alloys and 110bhp which gives it a 0 - 62 time of 8.5 seconds - same as the Leon and a similar 50mpg! FANTASTIC!!!
….got exactly the same car for the daily commute. Probably one of the best cars I have had and its great fun to drive. Love it!
Brilliant choice! For skipping around traffic and having a fun little drive home, you can't beat it for value for money!!
I got 1 as well here in Australia I paid $16990 drive away for it you cant beat the 7 year warranty and its a hoot to drive I love zipping though roundabouts in it.
Excellent review pal.
I’ve got one of these as a run around and Ceed estate for the family stuff. Perfect 2 car garage for me
See I was looking into an Up! GTI and then discovered the picanto GT line S. Basically the same car but you get much more for your money at KIA with only the loss of good styling from VW. Definitely think I'm going for the KIA at 4k cheaper (2nd hand)
I bought one! Soooo pleased!
Rea Black you’ve bought a great car. And you’re not alone either: since filming this review we’ve seen so many on the roads. Proving to be a popular choice, and understandably so!
Enjoy!.....I love mine!
Have the same car, plenty quick enough for what it is. Would disagree about cabin quality, yes it has some hard plastics, like the dash, but the rest don’t feel any worse than the mk8 Fiesta I drove before. The only niggle I have is no digital speedo and the seats aren’t very supportive.
JB definitely plenty quick, that 1.0 T-GDi engine is a great little motor.
On balance we can forgive the car for it’s plastics, and faux leather. To be able to offer the Picanto at such a competitive price, there has to be a cost saving somewhere.
Given the level of equipment on the car, the saving comes in materials, and we’re happy with that. I’d take the creature comforts over nicer plastics any day!
Got one with a plugin box. Pulls sooooo nice. Great car and i'm very satisfied
Is it the bluespark box? That’s what I am in the process of doing at the moment.
@@Eccentricplum one tuning box and then added the DTE pedal box -----> speedoooo 😂
@@Eccentricplum have you installed it now?
I love my Picanto
I got one and I love it! Only downside is the engine is slightly loud! Like when your pulling away in first it does get quite noisy and seems to have a loud turbo injection ticking sound! But other than that! I genuinely can’t fault how amazing this car is!
It’s just a fantastic little package. Lively, well-equipped and just fun to drive!
@@simplymotor my motor seems to make a ticking noise it’s not overly loud but just a constant ticking sound! Is this just fuel injectors? It’s 2019 so can’t imagine anything bad! But I think it’s just the thrummy little Kia engines! ;)
@@willmclean8743 I would agree that it’s unlikely to be anything major. These engines are very ‘thrummy’ as you say!!
What other compact mini that is also fun & cheap to drive?
6 gears would destroy the turning circle. Bluespark plugin box will take the engine to over 130bhp
Best car in the world
I got mine recently! Commented earlier! Loving the car the only downside is it seems to eat petrol!! I get like 34.7 mpg driving it carefully! What do other people usually get?
I think you get out of it what you put in. Drive it like a maniac and you’ll still get 34mpg. Whereas in a bigger, more powerful car it would be down in the low 20s. So go out and take it like Colin McRae; at least you’ll be smiling on every drive!!
@@simplymotor Look in the handbook and check the dash is not set to UK gallons. Mine was!
I’ts a great micro car, love my GTturbo
