The color under the water made an incredible illusion. A one of a kind water fall in the whole world what does one pay for something like that. Bravo, bravo, it's GREAT.
Before I happened upon your series, I was shopping for just the right table top waterfall and river combination... finished, they run anywhere from 900.00 to my favorite which is $1,600.00 and neither of those look this good. I'm either going to commission an art student, orrrr.. well possibly do it myself. I appreciate that these demonstrations are so thorough and materials accessible. I may have to just get dirty on this one!
You're welcome! I agree... it would be on par to charge a thousand and up for the larger habitat systems. There are groups that travel and to installations, complete with the appropriate background paintings... it's a pretty serious gig. I have the ground covered now... someone local is taking care of what I needed... so worth the money. Thanks for the reply.
Thank you so much for uploading this video.. You're so talented.. I just got my hot wire foam cutter and I'm so excited to start my projects! I'm doing décor for an 80 gallon tank for my bird eater spider and décor for a 155 gallon tank that I keep my milk snake in.. Again, thanks for uploading this.. :)
I have zero interest in lizards or building landscapes but have now watched so many of your videos I am late for work. This is oddly hypnotic and you are very talented.
I noticed after you applied the silicon to the project, the water appeared to fall better from the ridge and not slide down the sides. Very good work. I now plan to make one life size for my back yard pond. I will use much larger and thicker styrofoam for this project. Thanks for the great ideas and videos.
I’m so excited to have stumbled upon this. I’ve had this in mind for some time but have been afraid to even begin with the complexity of my brains idea and then I find the exact thing I wanted to create broken down for someone like me who has no experience with this. Thanks. Going to dive headfirst into your channel for sure!
You have inspired me beyond words man. I just want you to know, your pieces are absolutely beautiful! I am so glad you give step-by-step instructions. I will have videos of my own constructions soon. Thank you!
I'm going to use this video to hopefully make a waterfall for the red eyed crocodile skink I'm buying. Thank you so much for not only making this incredibly helpful video, but providing your own constructive criticism on what you would have done differently. This is one of the best terrarium setup videos on UA-cam!
You are really ingenious! I'm always stuck for that kind of project because I don't onow what sort of material I could use and their specific properties. Thank you! I think I can manage to build a great terra for my gecko
Great job! Its amazing how you combine the colors to make the correct effect in the stones! I guess there is the secret and special personal touch. Greetings.
I can tell you both, from experience, love water! They love to sit in their water bowls and soak! Mostly during times of shedding. Just remember to look up the materials to make sure everything is safe to use around your baby. I'm planning on doing this for my baby iguana(:
It's fairly sturdy. The more grout you apply the stronger it is. You could use it as a table top waterfall, the fish might need a deeper pond. the filter was around $20.
This is great stuff, a lot of helpful hints. I do a lot of landscape modeling and wanted to build a table top water feature and this gave me some great insight into water sealing the project... And yes, he is right, be very careful with silicone, the fumes are very caustic and cause severe eye irritation and should never be breathed in. Apply it outdoors and with a carpenter's/medical mask at very least
I have a suggestion.. instead of Styrofoam, consider the pink panther insulation board (dupond blue, pp pink) You often see good sized pieces in discard piles on bins at construction sites... it's very very stout and can be shaped nicely... much more stable than the white light weight stuff. Just a fyi...
Keep up the good work. There are very few people in this world who use their heads for more than a hat rack. Nice to see someone who is capable of creative thought.
A lot of questions asking why people don't try to sell these. Well, I have been building these for awhile myself, and after all the time consumption and funds spent doing it, You would never see a profit making them for sales. They are worth more than what others would be willing to pay for all the time spent and materials needed. Plus doing this is more like a fun hobby. Once you turn a fun hobby into a job, it turns into just another bad day at work. haha . Great Vid, Nice work of art.
WOW. I am truly inspired! I want to go to my local DIY shop right now and stock up on equipment to make my own! Absolutely beautiful! May I ask what you need to do to clean it? And just out of curiousity what kind of lizard did you have in mind when you were building this? Well done!
Thanks! You can use a mixture of half white vinegar and half water to clean it. A chinese water dragon or any other critter that is comfy around water -like certain types of frogs and other half aquatic half land pets.
Took on making a miniature version of this for my hermit crabs...worked surprisingly well and the little guys love it. Thank you for the tutorial, it really helped a lot :3
Your work is so inspiring. Thank you. I was trying to figure out how to make a waterfall for a different project, no pets allowed! Lol and your technique and supplies are exactly what would work. Thank you for sharing.
I love the waterfalls, but i know that I never will be able to do this like you, is just amazing, this is a beautiful hobby :) congrats !!! and have a great and happy new year 2014
It looks fantastic. I can't wait to get started on one for my two Iguanas. I have a couple of changes I'm considering. My enclosure is taller than it is in depth and width, so, I'm thinking of going with a taller structure and longer waterfall drop. Of course, I'll have to compensate with an appropriate pump that can lift sufficient water the additional height. I'm also seriously considering using a type of pump and filter which is mounted externally on the reverse side of the enclosure. I'll design some type of box, probably from Styrofoam, to sufficiently camouflage and quieten the pump/filter apparatus. I also believe that a 1/4" or 1/2 ball valve with a drain line that would connect to a bucket would make cleaning really easy. Using a 5% Bleach to Water solution from a spray bottle, followed up with several thorough sprays of clean rinse water every couple of days, would be much easier to clean the falls and pond than removing large sections of the structure each time. Always thinking of ways to give my Iguanas the coolest looking habitat, I've decided to hide a few deep-blue underwater LEDs behind the falls and hidden in the pond. Using a few light diffusers should make all the water appear to have a beautiful ethereal blue glow. But I'm not stopping there. I have a cool-mist humidifier I plan to incorporate into the waterfall. I'm not sure if I'll route the exit point of the mist from the mouth of the falls themselves or have it hidden in foliage that will direct the mist to slowly flow down from above the falls and engulf them. I plan as well, changing my actual waterfall from that shown in the video. Though very well done, I believe that the actual falling water in my enclosure would look better if it were pouring from the lip of the falls as one, having trouble finding the words, a thinner stream that is evenly flowing over the entire width of the fall's lip, creating a curtain of water, as opposed to having several heavier flows over the lip that are separate. It will involve some additional work to get the lip of the falls just right in order to achieve this "Waterfall Curtain Effect" but I think it will be worth it. With the blue LEDs, at night, the waterfall curtain, and the slowly descending mist, the tropical deep-green foliage will produce an ethereal look that will be stunning.

looks great. only thing i think i would add maybe is some sort of screening to keep smaller animals/snakes from climbing inside the "lip" and going and curling inside by the pump part. im going to be trying to make a smaller version to help keep my snake tank humid as just a small heater and large water bowl dont seem to work well
Oh ok, well atleast I dont have to worry about the expanding foam. I have'nt bought the supplies as of yet, still trying to decide on what type of silicone to use. As soon as I get all of the supplies i'll make a test subject & let you know if its any good.

Awesome project. You're very skilled. Do you know about how many work hours as well as the number of weeks you put into this one? Trying to estimate how long it would take us to make a similarly sized piece using your techniques.
This is really amazing!! Congratulations very beautiful work!! We would like to see the assembly of a Japanese garden with a pond! It would be very interesting to use with a Bonsai tree
great job I got to ask how much do the pumps cost? and does it have to be filtered if it is just for a waterfall no animals or pets involved.. thanks for your time and thanks for your helpful video... respect from new york
Really cool man!! Hey just an idea but instead of rtv silicone to rub on top next time go to homers and in tiling section they have redgard. It's a paintable liquid membrane to fuse all the foam pieces into one and its also waterproof
This is a very nice waterfall! i'm here just looking at ideas for rock formation/ how to reinforce, paint n that using foam for a vivarium i'm going to put together for my daughter. Nice job.
That's brilliant, and you're a good teacher, have you considered teaching at college, craft centre, elderly or community centres ? My daughter would like a small lizard but we have cats & dog, but i might use this technique to make a 'fairy' garden model, so, many thanks. Bless You.
Right. It doesn't need it. It was to demonstrate that you could have a much larger landscape, but still be able to remove the water area and dump the water quickly. So, imagine the base to be much much bigger.
Hi LizardLandscapes, I am from Argentina and I saw your excellent creation. Could you put the materials used into a list, because I am not sure to get all of them here. It would be great for me. Thanks a lot. Jorge
Amazing work! I'm thinking of making a waterfall and rock wall background for a Quince Monitor because they love swimming and climbing. I have one question though: Will this support the weight of a Quince Monitor (which gets about four feet)? If not, what material can I use to ensure that the monitor won't fall or break the structure?
That waterfall is AWESOME ! I have to build Niagara falls for a school project. So I might make it somewhat like yours. Thank you very much for sharing this because it helped me a lot ! :D
I applied several layers of a sealant. The main sealant being -aquarium grade silicone. I think for the dust water you are refering to grout -that I used.
Wow this is really impressive. Thanks for posting this. Could you incorporate a fogger/mist maker into the design? I'd really like to see creatures and plants living on this wonderful landscape you've created. I can just picture a few miniature ferns leaning over the edges of the pool and perhaps a few brightly coloured amphibians scattered about the place. Would it be possible to create a small bog filter, adjacent to the main pool, to naturally remove nitrates and such?
Close to 1 1/2 Mill. Viewers, that must be a record. It,s very long and very detailed and light on products! All very light! Move it here or there, no problems! If You like it heavy go with some of it, I will tomorrow! Think before You start!
Hi, This is a really good project.I plan to make this for a nativity scene.Could you please tell me what is the height, breadth and depth of the Polystyrene that you used Thanks
The customers could paint them. I'm sure some people would want you to comission paint it, but many would probably want to paint it themselves, too. :) Great video, and great scenery!
For those in Australia: I bought Sikabond Fast construct adhesive (non toxic and can be used on styrofoam), Dunlop flexible coloured grout (save on painting later) and Bondall Tile and Grout Sealer which is a non toxic water proof sealent.
After seeing a few (maybe more) of your vids an idea popped in mind.. You think the same techniques with a few mods could be acquired for making a tree "branch"..? Say like using thin pvc pipes and then following the same concept with gluing the foam etc.? I think it be neat..
Hi, excellent work by the way... I just wanted to ask, how do you manage to grout the model, with all if the tiny gaps in the polystyrene, making it hd water?
That's fantastic! A couple of questions if I may? Is that tile grout that you use?As I am in Australia, we do not always have the same material or alternatively, it has a different name. How strong is the finished product? Can it withstand the rigours of a bearded dragon wandering back and forth all day?
It is tile grout. The more layers of grout you use the stronger it is. For waterfalls -I wouldn't recomend for bearded dragons. Non-waterfall projects can hold up to dragons wear and tear.
hiya i just finished a similar work. im on the part that i need to put sealant, but my concern is to put the varnish around the lagoon i cant find any non toxic spray and im afraid it can be a bit expensive to buy the spray. thank you for the awesome video it help me loads, only took me 2 weeks because i didnt have the material for it. it was a good inspiration thank you again.
you're one sick artist , that's freaking good man
The color under the water made an incredible illusion. A one of a kind water fall in the whole world what does one pay for something like that. Bravo, bravo, it's GREAT.
such a great job with a great artist..i really enjoyed watching your video ...AWESOME !!!

I have zero interest in lizards or building landscapes but have now watched so many of your videos I am late for work. This is oddly hypnotic and you are very talented.
+kendisblue Thanks, -don't be late.
This is amazing! I was looking for sandfalls but this one was more than worth watching. Wow!
Daisy Escher Thanks!
Wheeeeeeew... first it looked like an ice house, but then it magically turned into a beautiful waterfall landscape. Awesome! I like it very much!
"no artistic skill going on" yet all your videos ive watched display works of art!!
I noticed after you applied the silicon to the project, the water appeared to fall better from the ridge and not slide down the sides.
Very good work.
I now plan to make one life size for my back yard pond. I will use much larger and thicker styrofoam for this project.
Thanks for the great ideas and videos.
can you please suggest me the type of filter used in this project
It's a Tetra Repto filter 90 gph.

Thanks, and good luck on your project!
how much did this cost to make ( not counting the filter )
It all depends on what you already have. Anywhere from $40-$90 maybe.
LizardLandscapes Thanks dude ! amazing job
Marley Jane really dear
I'm always amazed at how ingenious someone can be to design structures like this. I have no reptiles but I sure want that waterfall!
Geez I've been looking for pipes, tubes, etc when all I needed was a filter...
You have inspired me beyond words man. I just want you to know, your pieces are absolutely beautiful! I am so glad you give step-by-step instructions. I will have videos of my own constructions soon. Thank you!
Thanks, I look forward to seeing your creations!
it took around 5 months, and it was difficult.
Very impressive...You must have the patience of a saint!! Absolutely beautiful work!! You are very talented.

this is awesome and I dont event own a lizard! gj!

Lmc If You Actually Don't Try To Attempt These Because You Know You Will Fail..

Amazing how many people ask questions that you already cover in the video.
Brilliant project mate. I'm inspired to try something similar. Thanks :)
Thanks!
I have a suggestion.. instead of Styrofoam, consider the pink panther insulation board (dupond blue, pp pink) You often see good sized pieces in discard piles on bins at construction sites... it's very very stout and can be shaped nicely... much more stable than the white light weight stuff. Just a fyi...

i'm using some of these techniques to build a very large cave with a pond/spring and live plants. i'm finding it much easier to use expanding spray foam so you can create the shapes you want and fill gaps easily and then carve it once it's cured. you can also melt most types of foam with acetone to create non-leaking ponds
Ok, just be sure to research the dangers of using spray foam.
@@LizardLandscapes according to the can it's not very dangerous to work with. I don't know if it's safe for critters
looks great. only thing i think i would add maybe is some sort of screening to keep smaller animals/snakes from climbing inside the "lip" and going and curling inside by the pump part. im going to be trying to make a smaller version to help keep my snake tank humid as just a small heater and large water bowl dont seem to work well

You can use pretty much anything to apply the paint. I don't know about other acrylic sealers, but I assume they would work the same.
hello lizzard..love your projects and I've decide to make one in a bigger scale but i wanted this outside ,so the question is..using same material i can leave outside under the changes of weather .like tropical storms in Brazil.
Dear, It's really amazing .... Hats off!
Wow wow wow... o.O This is truly amazing! My boyfriend and I are looking into expanding our current set up with our fish to mutiple set ups with amphibians like newts and frogs. Wow!Very nice..such attention to details.
You could try it, I've not done that before. The non-sanded grout works well to evenly spread over the entire project.
Really nice tutorial. Thanks for the upload!
I urge anyone interested in this project to also find the tutorial about home made styro cutters made from a flashlight. These things make cutting the styro foam so much less messy. No "snow" to clean up.
Superb tutorial. Thanks. I'm just wondering if paverpol might be a substitute for silicone? I have nowhere to dry anything outdoors.
Is it water proof? I would do a test to see if it would adhere to this type of surface and if it's truly waterproof.
This is amazing, thanks for taking the time to post this online for everyone!
good crafting, i like it. Thought you might like a tip to improve your dry brushing, really get that brush dry and it will pick texture a lot better without painting the bulk of a surface. Good stuff though really enjoyed the video

Getting a tegu soon. Currently building the cage & would attempt to make this as well. I think it would be perfect to keep the humidity up.
Really cool man!! Hey just an idea but instead of rtv silicone to rub on top next time go to homers and in tiling section they have redgard. It's a paintable liquid membrane to fuse all the foam pieces into one and its also waterproof
WOW, what an awesome piece of art you got there! its beautiful, realistic, very inspiring :)

I use Loctite's Power Grab all purpose low odor, but you can also use Liquid Nails.
@@LizardLandscapes 🌻🌻🌻🌷🌷
fantastic sir very good idea only one question is the grout u added not dissolves with water and what type of paint used
Grout won't dissolve because I sealed it with two sealants. I used acrylic paint.
thank u very much i hop to follow u in many video
This is exactly what I’ve been searching for! Please tell me why a separate base and pool instead of making it all one piece.
Right. It doesn't need it. It was to demonstrate that you could have a much larger landscape, but still be able to remove the water area and dump the water quickly. So, imagine the base to be much much bigger.
Super detailed and useful tutorial. Thanks!
Also, you sound just like Ron Swanson.
Hi LizardLandscapes, I am from Argentina and I saw your excellent creation.
Could you put the materials used into a list, because I am not sure to get all of them here.
It would be great for me. Thanks a lot.

Check out the materials list video on my channel.
+Velocity Speedpaints You could add more layers of grout or foam coat, or you could use many layers of concrete.

I followed your advise and made a Aztec temple background for my frog tank. Came out amazing.
You sir! are a very talented man, LOVE your designs and tutorials, I'm sure you've made some reptiles across the nation very happy haha
SUBSCRIBED!
Such cool video.. Imagine a Bonsai Tree on that beautiful piece! /Bonsai Talk
Nice work! Absolutely amazing.
This is real art! Very nice piece!
Close to 1 1/2 Mill. Viewers, that must be a record. It,s very long and very detailed and light on products! All very light! Move it here or there, no problems! If You like it heavy go with some of it, I will tomorrow! Think before You start!
Gout is the stuff in between the floor tiles in bathrooms and kitchens. Any grout will do, I usually got the cheapest stuff -Polyblend.
You can do any shape right? To make it fit the terrarium. And could a fish tank filter work as a pump too??
Congratulations for the work you've done, it's wonderful!
Hi,
This is a really good project.I plan to make this for a nativity scene.Could you please tell me what is the height, breadth and depth of the Polystyrene that you used
Thanks
The customers could paint them. I'm sure some people would want you to comission paint it, but many would probably want to paint it themselves, too. :) Great video, and great scenery!
Thats a lot of time creating such a beauty
For those in Australia:
I bought Sikabond Fast construct adhesive (non toxic and can be used on styrofoam), Dunlop flexible coloured grout (save on painting later) and Bondall Tile and Grout Sealer which is a non toxic water proof sealent.
Très jolie travail ! bravo
nice work congratulation guy !
I wonder what is the pink mortar mix you use on the styrofoam, love from Turkey, great work
Thanks! It is non-sanded grout.
hiya i just finished a similar work. im on the part that i need to put sealant, but my concern is to put the varnish around the lagoon i cant find any non toxic spray and im afraid it can be a bit expensive to buy the spray. thank you for the awesome video it help me loads, only took me 2 weeks because i didnt have the material for it. it was a good inspiration thank you again.
Thanks! The non-toxic sealant is expensive but worth it.
It would depend on if you're using the same pump. You would need to fill with water just past the intake section of the pump.
You might have to use wood to build the base structure -to make it stronger. maybe foam over that, and then many layers of thick grout or foam coat.
