As someone from the US, I can say that thw US public education system really does suck. I have had plenty of wonderful teachers and school faculty members in my life, and I am grateful for all of them and the work they have done. However, that doesn't mean the system is good. It's like seeing a great actor in a horrible movie. Sure, they might have done a fantastic job playing their character and delivering their lines, but if the script is actual garbage, there's only so much they can do to make the movie not suck.
US public school systems just fail to teach us SO many important topics, while focusing on stupid shit no one will ever need to remember or even utilize. So much of history is just glossed over while focusing on how "aWeSoMe We ArE!!!" Horrible people of history are idolized to young kids. I get you can't talk about Columbus's horrible acts to a 7-year-old, but instead of making him seem like a hero, maybe just... don't bring him up until they're older?
There are a lot of issues with the US education system, and it impacts the rest of your life. I know embarrassingly little about geography or cultures of other countries. I've also never been great at remembering history, but I've at least tried. There are so many things that we just never learned until I was already so burnt-out that ADHD turned away the ability to remember almost any of it. And don't even get me started on how shitty the support systems for neurodivergent students can be. Standardized, one-size-fits-all schooling makes kids with learning disabilities and difficulties feel like shit. You're either "the stupid one" or "so special and gifted!!!" until you burn out and spiral for the rest of your life.
Why did I decide to write a novel about this at 8:30 am? This was supposed to be like 3 sentences lmao. To anyone who reads this (which I doubt will be more than 2 people), sorry for rambling. Have a chill day.

6:28 It keeps the drink cold, but it may dilute into the drink if you wait too long. If you want that not to happen, you can usually order a drink without ice.

12:05 All the time in public if you're not doing something. It's entirely optional though; put earbuds in and only assholes will talk to you.

Oh when I get ice in drinks I hand it back and tell them to get me a new one because I ALWAYS tell them no ice because I am not paying for ice.

12:05 I have made friends at a public playground with Tim the random kid when I was 6 and then never seen Tim ever again. It's common enough that it's a fun time as kids.

Yeah I can't think of anything unkind to say about Colorado. I haven't been there in more than a decade, but I could definitely see myself going back.

I'd love to hear how the answers to the "what does being an American mean to you?" might have changed from 2 yrs ago, especially due to recent decisions by the government that differs dramatically from most citizens & the International community. Recent events have made it glaringly obvious that Americans have very little power over what out gov does. Foreign countries have more influence over our gov than even American citizens! It doesn't even matter when staffers are demanding their bosses to change decisions. Money & power begets corrupt leadership who are deaf to anything but money & power. Its truly embarrassing to be an American these days & as a disabled, unemployed member of the underclass, I'm repeatedly surprised & heartbroken by the depths my government pushes me into. Even rats have a better quality of life than living as a progressive millennial on disability, in late 2023. I feel like the world peaked in the months between Pokemon Go released in 2016 & the election of Trump. Independence day thru Halloween, 2016. Its been on a downward spiral since then. Even electing Biden, we had an insurrection, the thoughtless pull out from Afghanistan, loss of Roe v Wade protections, worsening attacks on the trans community, empty promises for college debt forgiveness, social supports from COVID were pulled out from under us, Biden falling over himself to please 2 "democrats" who had more power than anyone else in the world at one point...life as an American may not be as embarrassing on Twitter (although its just a different American now), but on the world stage, its still shameful how little the people's voices influence our government.
