It's nice to know that despite whatever differences we may have, we can all agree that Krobous is adorable and Clint is creepy. It gives me hope for the future.
I felt bad for him at the start.
Thought he was socially anxious, really bad at using words and approaching people. Which i definitely relate to

Im more nuetral to krobus... i cant see any appeal of an amorphus black figure that lives underground... then again, Sebastian is the one everyone marries

I think it would be worth asking whether people rated the villagers as PEOPLE or as CHARACTERS, because that will give you very different answers. For instance, I rated in terms of character, so I put Pierre pretty high on my list of favorites: I think he's a very interesting character. He's a man in a failing business and a failing marriage who can't connect to his daughter. His work is all he really has, and he's in danger of losing that too with Joja in town, and you watch him clearly choose his work over his family every time and just make things worse for himself. His priorities are all out of whack and you as the player kind of enable it and I think that's fascinating, and way more interesting than 'idk man I'm a standard ten year old kid'. I rated Vincent low not because I dislike him and think he's a bad person, but because there's nothing there character-wise to care about.
That’s a great point lol. I was just thinking about this recently in regards to BoJack Horseman, if you’ve seen it. There’s a character in the show, Beatrice, whom I absolutely love as a character because she is deeply complex and interesting, but as a person, she’s about as terrible as they come-she abused her child his entire life.
One thing I noticed with the disliked characters: for a lot of them, I felt pretty neutral about them at first, but then they'd have a scene or two that painted them in such a bad light it was hard to see them the same. Even when there are alternative explanations, first impressions make a really big impact.
Curious, which characters are you referring to? Like Demetrius?
I was kind of surprised Alex wasn't more disliked but with that in mind it makes more sense
My theory about the Vincent hate is that his birthday is that he has one of the first birthdays, so a lot of new players have probably found the calendar but haven’t figured out the gifting system yet so they give him a random gift and get mad when he doesn’t like it. Saw a new player do this on a stream lol
I think I like everyone in their own way, in Stardew Valley everyone has their personality and flaws and that makes everything special when they're together, it wouldn't be funny if everyone was alike. For example, I love Gus for his kindness and for being a good friend, but it all shines brighter when he's with other characters and when he and others show their flaws, but they are not monsters, they are only humans and can improve, and so it's nice to have Gus being a good friend and kind to everyone and still having its own flaws, it wouldn't be the same without all the other characters.
I was at the part where he was giving the colour-blind disclaimer and a KFC ad popped up so all I heard was.
"And If you're colour-blind- I DON'T CARE!"
i did not realize Linus was so loved. He's my favorite but I didn't know that was a popular opinion. Definitely wouldn't have guessed top 2! very happy about it tho.

I'd be interested in seeing how socioeconomic status effects your opinion on certain characters, especially Pam.
I want the option to give some of the marriageable candidates a cabin on my farm like multiplayer. Like I marry Sebastian but I really want some of the others to have that farm freedom too, like Shane or Penny. I always feel bad leaving them where they aren't happy 😭
I’m late getting to this! I got my mom playing Stardew. She’s a 55 year old cisgender woman. She wants everyone to know she HATES everyone but Linus. She was years into her farm and hadn’t even met several people yet - “that b*tch isn’t worth wasting my time!” was her reasoning for never speaking to several of the villagers.
But she cooks food specifically for Linus before she heads to the mines - she will take a detour to bring Linus some home cooked food. Important note: she doesn’t care what the wiki says his favorite foods are. He likes spaghetti and soup according to her.
I thought Gus would have been higher on the list, but there is definitely a lot of competition, haha. All of these results are so interesting to peruse; thank you so much for pulling this all together! 🤓
how do 45 people think pierre is the best villager???
Maybe because they buy their seeds from him? 🤷♀️ Only reason I can think of.
I imagine a fair number give him extra credit for taking out Morris after completing the CC
Also I have heard of the /very occasional/ person liking the look of pierre at first meeting 🤓😳
See above comment by possumbreath. They made a great point about him being a very interesting character and therefore ranking him high, not because they think he is a great person. I think it’s a completely valid argument.
We should probably all admit that we have fed the governor the lucky purple shorts at least once. How that affects his favoritism I don’t know. 😅
I was in the bigender group, and (in spite of the small sample size) think it’s interesting that unlike how in most groups Krobus has a really clear lead, here he’s almost tied with Evelyn!
I want to date morris so bad, he looks like someone I want to divorce
I do kinda wish the 'do you tend to play as a character that matches your gender' question had an 'I have way too many farms so the ratio of male to female farmers is about equal' option...buuuuut that might just be saying more about me than I'd like it to haha.

not to mention i like to base my farmers off of my ocs, so whatever gender i am has nothing to do with how i play the game.

It's boring to try to match the farmer to yourself - for me anyway. My farmers vary in gender, skin tone, sexual preference, and most other things. And I also have way too many farms.

Just wanna say that I love that you used the stardew font in the graphs, that is SO adorable. I'm really excited to see some statistics about roommates!
Looking at Clint - while painful on the eyes - provides a real lesson. Every group sort of agrees that he's a creep, but some groups are more likely to spot it than others. Some older people might see his behaviour as normal, some younger people haven't had experiences with creeps like him so they don't think as much of it. Men are less likely to being creeped (crept?) on, so their creep-radar isn't as finely tuned.
On the favourite side of things, Krobus (while having an explicitly stated gender) doesn't play into strong stereotypes and therefore more easily clicks with those that also aren't completely conforming.
In regards to younger people voting Clint due to the relation of having bad experiences with creeps like him, his ranking in the 13-18 group is really quite horrifying if we draw that real-world conclusion.
@@doodlebobascending8505 At the risk of being over optimistic - I hope it’s more that today’s emerging adults are better informed & on guard about Clint-type behaviour, so they can call him out as a Nice Guy

@@teripen Because some people can relate to his awkwardness and want to help him out, and since the only apparently viable way of getting character development in stardew valley is marrying the farmer people chose him, similar to Shane.
At leat that's my view on it, I can't exactly relate to him since I'm not into women and use to get along well easily around them, but Clint is so sad and doomed... I think precisely because people are projecting bad experiences on him they are not able to notice that he's not as bad.
Another thing with Clint.
It takes a little bit to see the Creep side
At first, he just seems like he's anti-social, possible autistic in some way
And I definitely felt for him at first. I've got some social stuff myself. I find it very hard to start conversations for some reason. So i felt for the guy
Its after a few events that you see that, its not just that he's bad at expressing himself, and the Nice Guy starts to show up.
So if you haven't delved in, made friends with him or Emily, you never see the Nice Guy aspect show up. And he just seems like a lonely guy who cant get a break, and is too anxious to talk to a girl he likes. Which can be pretty damn relatable
@@teripen You know it's a game, right? And Just because a lot of people see him one way doesn't mean everyone does and doesn't make them wrong either. Personally I see Emily as a jerk myself and have no sympathy for her.

I was a bit surprised (tho not disappointed!) to see Clint slightly more unpopular than Pierre & Lewis. ig the larger proportion of women & gender diverse respondents helped him get that self-fulfilling prophecy
The imagery of Krobus in a dark-alley based popularity contest also made me laugh a bit too much 😆

Great work on the survey as always! It's so interesting seeing all this stuff broken down by demographics.
My idea for the Nongiftable NPCs are that you don't really think of them that often outside of mods unless they are a character you interact with on an actual extent like Qi, Birdie, Marlon, and Gunther. Marlon is older side of Dilf from what I noticed as well and Gunther is also a Dilf. Marlon I believe though is the bigger favorite is because he also shows up to basically every event too and is the most fleshed out even though he has like nothing, hence why he has a lot more Giftable NPC mods you can find on Nexus than Gunther. Morris in vanilla is also a way less likeable character because he is really only a store manager without much else to look at him for. Most people go with Community Center anyway because it isn't just raise money and also on first runs you would think its a lot more apart of an idea that it would be used more than like a character wandering in it like once a day. Personally I would say my favorite is Marlon like what was there
As for the rest going off the perameters IMO are
Favorite Giftable: Krobus, Linus, and Willy are up there for me with Caroline, Sandy, Dwarf, Robin. and Kent shifting around behind them, currently 4 is Robin and 5 is Sandy
Least Favorite Giftable: Pierre and Demitrius
Favorite Spouse as a friend: Shane, or Leah
Least Favorite Spouse as a friend: Harvey (He is only good if you go to romance IMO)
Best Parents: Jodie and Kent partly because they have the least issues, Kent just has PTSD so it could be a little troublesome. Pierre is generally a terrible person, Pam does her best as an only parent but obviously kind of couldn't handle it, Then Demitrius is the sort of fission in Robin's household and Robin dotes more on him than on paying attention to Sebastian, leaving Jodie and Kent as the only stable parents
Worst Parents: I would say Pierre if its just him as Caroline tries to put some effort, but otherwise, I would say Robin and Demitrius
Roommates: I want more overall, give me the chance to romance Sandy or Wizard, or Linus, let me be friends with Dwarf, give me more of the fantastical please.
As for demographics: TransFemme at in that 19-29 age group
Clint is the stereotypical ‘Nice Guy’ who doesn’t quit even when they’re married
These stats videos are always fun, thanks for wrangling those check boxes for us! From a data visualization perspective, bar charts are the way to go for human readability, especially when the bars are ordered by height. Pie charts are pretty to look at but not great for readability.

I’ll be honest, I’ve argued with people about Clint quite a lot.
I think it’s absolutely the easiest thing in the world to misunderstand or take his scenes out of context.
The infamous bush scene in particular, people are so quick to say is him stalking Emily. Which leads me to assume ppl would rather believe what they want than actually watch a scene with the context it provides.
Clint is very clearly trying to work up the courage to tell Emily his feelings. And is getting cold feet. Caroline shows up and startles him so he scrambled to a bush to hide from CAROLINE so he can just go home when she leaves.
My other points- there’s only ONE place to hang out after work, and it’s the bar. Where else is Clint supposed to go? Just stay at home like a hermit?
He just has self esteem/confidence issues so he pines for Emily rather than telling her his feelings.
And of course, proof in the coding.
If he REALLY were a creepy stalker? Why does his daily schedule never indicate that? Having a job certainly doesn’t stop marnie and Robin from leaving their posts for personal reasons.
Idk. I’ll say that Clint /isn’t/ my favorite by any means.

The one that turns me fully away from him, is the 'I guess the better man won' when you get that heart scene with Emily.
And then Emily mentioning that she feels like she lost a friend cuz Clint isn't talking to her very much now.
Cuz that shows, he doesn't want Emily as a friend, he's ONLY interested if he thinks he can get her to be his girlfriend. Which, is how you spot True Love.
If you truely do love someone, you dont mind if they're not with you. You just want them to be happy.
As soon as he thinks he doesn't have a chance, he stops talking to her.

It’s also worth noting that in your friendship events with HIM you /are/ trying to build his courage up. And Emily’s scene was written much later as she was only marriageable after a vote. In combination it kind of feels like a bad friend move on your part with how the order of that would play out either way. Bc it’s either, you marry her knowing he likes her and encouraged him to tell her. Or you encourage him to tell her- knowing you’re married to her? The whole thing is a mess due to her being added as a marriage option, ALTHOUGH I’m glad she is a marriage option either way. She’s a fun character and I love her as a spouse when I do marry her. I just tend to not… befriend Clint on those files. >.>
Agreed, like others have said,I think Clint's reaction to you dateing Emily is unfortunate for her because she saw him as a friend, but given his social limitations I think it's not unexpected. I really do think they fumbled Clint's character when they made Emily a marriage option after writing the entire Clint ark around him trying to ask her out.
I agree, I never hated the guy. I don't think much about him, but he's harmless. I don't really like Emily much, but few people have much of anything to say about her at all.

Not sure if the demographic would be large enough, but it would be interesting to do something like this for Stardew Expanded. Not just because of the new NPCs (though let's face it, Apples would tank Krobus), but also to see how some NPCs compare to their vanilla counterpart after considering the extra lore/context some of them get. Would also be interesting to see if NPCs who become giftable in the mod (Gunther, Marlon etc.) fare similarly to their non-giftable stats.

As sad as it is, I think ConcernedApe's safety would be in danger if he did that, or at least if he had done that when the game came out. He might be safe he did that now, but I highly doubt he will

I think people who are exclusively straight or gay, or have a perfect 50/50 bisexuality are incredibly rare. Most lean one way or the other, with some wiggle room
Because most people are virgin or have no experience enough of both parts to correctly determine in what level they are attracted men and women.
Besides, it came to play as pansexuality, since you might be bisexual but there's some features present in men and women that turns you on, like a strong personality, being athletic, having a soft skin, and stuff like that. Is easier to say that you are attracted to both.
This just proves that you can't make everyone happy.... people just can't accept that if they are unique they might bot be perfectly represented in every single survey
