  • I broke the handle of my neighbor's wheelbarrow when moving around some firewood, so I thought I'd fix it for him. This is a fairly easy job requiring minimal tools, and definitely something the homeowner can tackle.

      So far I have removed the old handles. They had to be sawed off. The only other is to remove the screws from the the wheel holder slots. It will be done. 😊 - I’m getting new completed wheel & I’m saying, and rim brackets 😂. I know you know what I’m trying to say, today. Thanks 🙏

    Nice Job! I just bought (2) 8 foot 2 x 3 lumber studs which was thicker than the original handles and cut to length and bought longer bolts for the original were rusty and too short. It came out good and stronger than original too for less than $18 for parts. Take care!

      Good to hear 👍 I'm curious if the studs will hold up as long as hardwood

      @@GlennFrazeeYT I will let you know. Yes, you are right - hardwood is better. My dad found a damaged handle construction wheel barrow left in his is shop in 1980's and he made oak handles for it that I painted and still have too! Thanks again for your video!

    What handles did you buy? I have the same exact model with the same exact breakage haha! Great video

      I got the handles at a little hardware store in the county, not sure the size, sorry. You can always bring the old ones to the store to check.

    If my true temper wheel barrow has 36 inch handles and one of them broke- can I replace both with 60 inch handles? Can’t find 36 inch handles anywhere!! Thanks for the video :)

      You can always cut them shorter

    This is the third video I’m watching and they all have the old handles to line up the holes. I don’t have the old handles and hope someone out there did a video telling us the measurements of distances for the holes on the new handles😢

    • @GlennFrazeeYT
      @GlennFrazeeYT  9 місяців тому

      It will depend on your model of wheelbarrow

      I figured it out, just finished it tonight. I had taken it apart 5 years ago and threw all the old hardware, wheel and wood away, kept the brackets and the metal tub, never dreamed it wouldn't get done until 5 years and 3 moves later. I have had it 25 years so didn't want to just buy a new one, this one had memories attached to it.Thanks for the response and your video.@@GlennFrazeeYT

    When installing the wheel, you flipped it around, why was that? I’m about to do the same job and curious so I don’t mess it up

      Looking back at the footage, I'm not sure. I think maybe I could see the rust patterns where the bolts were and just decided to keep it consistent. It shouldn't matter which way it goes.

    A paint. Polyurethane, or a spar varnish will preserve the handles.

    I have that wheelbarrow. The handles broke. The ones I bought do not fit, much too large, $$’s down the drain. Cannot find the right sized handles.

    • @GlennFrazeeYT
      @GlennFrazeeYT  2 роки тому +1

      You could always try cutting them down to size

    • @raydeenjaques2048

      @@GlennFrazeeYT yes, I considered that. I took them to a near by “Handy Man”, but he fell through. Because the larger handles change the angle at the wheel point, the axel is too short (It plops off) and so is the toe brace. I can see a “fix”, but I don’t have tools.
