    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  11 місяців тому

      Floating lines will always have a bit of memory and it depends how much use they have . The longer they sit on a spool not being used the worse the memory . If you have big gaps between trips take your floating line off the spool and hang it in big open loops on a coat hanger and store it somewhere cool . You can give the line a slight stretch but this can damage the line and cause the plastic to separate from the core . Line memory always looks much worse when being used at low water temps .

    Hi Tim im fairly new, but what do you do when your droppers get to short ?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  11 місяців тому +1

      Re tie . You can just cut your leader at the dropper knot and re tie the break using a 3 turn water knot leaving a long tail ... no need to re do the whole leader this way ... Oh and don't change flies so often ! lol ... its not usually the fly that needs changing but the depth or speed you are fishing at that needs addressing . Thanks for watching .

  • @777-david-p9l
    @777-david-p9l 11 місяців тому +1

    Hi Tim. A couple of questions on your dry fly set up. Do you use any floatant for any length of the fluorocarbon? Here I was thinking of drag when setting the hook. Do you use floatant on the dry fly? Other than that, thanks for the video, very informative. :)

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  11 місяців тому +1

      No I use flurocarbon so the leader sinks . I also degrease to encourage it to sink . One of the biggest causes of refusals on dries is the fish seeing the leader .. it must sink ! As for the flies , with the CDC emerger like this one in the vid adding flotant can mess with the natural buoyancy of the fly so I just keep it dry . With all other flies a very very small application of gink on the back of the fly before the session and then after each fish is caught will keep those flies up . Remember less is more when it comes to applying flotant to a fly !

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  10 місяців тому +1

      no more than six inches . Quite often as little as 4 if I am casting into a heavy wind . Long droppers dont improve presentation and only cause tangles .

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  11 місяців тому

    Hi Tim,
    Another great video, what made you go for the crisp packet over the olive buzzer? My understanding was early season buzzers are lighter in colour...
    Many thanks Marc

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  11 місяців тому +1

      Its usually the other way round but it does depend on your lake . Normally the early season buzzers are big and black , grey boys , crisp packets .. as the season progresses then you see the olives ..

  • @IanAsh-gy1te
    @IanAsh-gy1te 8 місяців тому

    Tim myself and two others struggled at our local small still water yesterday tried buzzers and Diawl bachs on washing line and straight linning and the bung and dries, fish were repeatedly coming vertically out of the water like rockets but no joy any ideas? It was cold with intermittent light wind

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  8 місяців тому

      That kind of behaviour is usually a sign of stress . Poor water quality i.e algae bloom or low O2 , angling pressure , had there been a comp the day before ? Or even a big air pressure change can upset them like this . If I see this kind of repeated behaviour it always means we are in for a tough day !
