@@DEEZNuts-pd2kv Made to do it. Looks hella concerning but they are heat treated, like spring steel, and can flex repeatedly without breaking. I'm fairly sure they probably break some cross members though. And really, IDK but they probably build special plates for this. The pins are about 2" diameter so the shear load to break one would actually be insane. A grade-8 bolt 1/2" diameter has about 193,000 PSI tensile strength.
@@majestical5331 Grade 8 bolts are made of material with a 150,000 psi rating. Given a 2" diameter pin, the area = 3.14". Multiply that by 150,000 psi and you get 471,000 pounds. Note that this is tensile strength (stretching bolt along it's length). Shear strength is typically calculated at 60% of tensile so, you're looking at roughly 282,600 pounds. Otherwise known as a whole helluva lot. My question is, how much do those trailers weigh, loaded and ready to race?
@@panchorodriguez7246 I had seen different rating on the bolts too. Cad plated versus black oxide. The pins are heat treated too possibly so that makes them even harder. From what I gathered the trailers were 140K, 160K and 200K pounds but don't quote me. The pins have maybe 4" to 5" of surface area between the 5th wheel and the frame mount. So you'd be trying to pull at least a 2" section from the center of the pin. Similarly, a 793 Cat haul truck has the bed tilt pins that are like 6" to 7" in diameter, and they weigh.. well, let's just say mother in law's arm weight. The bed weighs from 49 to 52+ tons depending on how much wear plate and repairs they have, and they haul around 150 tons of material. Although I referenced the pins, I don't think that's even a thought that one would fail.

You’re hearing fuel cut off the line.
@@tylerwatkins9487 Obviously diesels have no ignition too cut. 2 step is basically just 2 rev limits. You can hear the truck at 1:04 spooling turbo with its 2step setup. A lot of other rigs in the video too.
@@240sxRule it’s literally what I said. Fuel cut 😂. It’s not a “2 step”.
So that's what half a million foot lbs of torque looks like!
The amount of torque displayed is incredible!! Man vs.machine! Awesome 👏

Damn, Ford CLs AND an LTL out there putting in work. That put a big fat smile on my face. Awesome video as always 👍
Thank you!!!
Great for the air and the environment. What an idea 💡 👏 👌
Am I right in assuming the torque is so great at start, the engine is twisting the driver front wheel up and trying to rotate the tractor. Man, talk about rolling coal.
You are correct. Wheel lift was something I saw a few times back in the 80s-90s.
High torque and low gear, yup.
Everyone talking about drivetrain stress.. What about those poor 5th wheel plate pins.. 🤛😫🤜
Naw...what about all them twisted azz frames???
I love when the front wheel goes up in the air!!!!! 😁 My favorite part!!
23:34 that torque...
Could you just imagine setting a a stop light with him on the right of you 😂 LOL

@@raymondo162 you only get naturally selected if you didn't breed. Doesn't matter if you die at 50 or 90. If you have 8 children you genes are still going strong after you are dead 💪💪💪
As soon as I saw that 1986 International blowing white smoke @ 1:46 I felt horrible for him. He did a ton of prep work to be ready for race day and didn't stand a chance after this misfortune.
Beautiful truck though. It's been AGES since I've seen an International from that era.
You know the heavy hitters are up when they burn fresh tires pulling a load like that. I pull super tank and I can't imagine the numbers required to break 8 drives free on dry pavement with 150k+ on the wagons. JEE-ZUS.

They definitely travel at a high rate of fuel consumption

Where can I get info on these engine and transmission builds? I’d love to know which brands they’re running and what upgrades it takes to stay alive doing this!
The guy who did my custom tune on my 60 series Detroit, said he could get 2000 hp out of a 12.7 60 series. People who are serious into the competition pulling I think are a little secretive about there tricks that give them an edge.
The biggest thing is the insane boost they run. The guys getting 2000 WHP out of a 14-18L engine are EASILY running 8 to 11 bar of boost, with pressure ratios around 8 to 12. And that's at sea level; at high altitudes the air is thinner and these trucks could see pressure ratios of 23 to 26.
@@electric7487 How about EGT's? They gotta be in the 1800+ degree range
@@billthompson8953 EGT's of 1000°C or higher sound about right, especially if you run the tons of extra boost required for a low-smoke pull.
