    In my opinion, Ricardo Lopez is the most technical, most skillful, and smartest fighter that i have ever seen. He fought the top guys of his weight division during those those days. This man was a complete fighter. He has the power, speed, great head and waist movement, great timing, great accuracy, and very good technique. Lopez was just the closest thing to perfection that i have ever seen.

      Jonathan Santos Salvador Sanchez was also a phenomenal fighter. One of my favorites as well. He also fought the best in his weightclass, for example Lopez,Nelson, and Gomez. R.I.P Salvador Sanchez.

      Did he fight Mark "Too sharp" Johnson? No. That was the Floyd Mayweather at Lopez' weight... I like Ricardo Lopez, btw, just clarifying... Just like Tyson never fought Riddick Bowe and Leonard never fought Aaron Pryor... Be careful with the "He fought everybody" thing. . There are only like 3 people in the last 50 years you can say that about... Ali, Duran, Cotto.

    For those of you who have seen Hajime No Ippo and want to find where the creators got the inspiration for "Ricardo Martinez'" and his boxing style during the fight against Date Eiji, it can be found in min 1:05. In the manga/anime, at the start of the third round, Ricardo returns to his original boxing style and supresses Eiji Date with a barrage of punches. Whenever Eiji wanted to make an attack of his own during that barrage of punches, he would quickly get punched in the face 2 or 3 times by Ricardo. This is very similar to what we see in min 1:05

      And integrity and sportsmanship in and out of the ring. He could have been a trash talker with talent to back it up, but he chose to be humble and that's why his place in the boxing hall of fame is well earned, but also well deserved.

      Also his humbleness puts him even higher. He's now a sports commentator and a motivational speaker that says that we are all star dust and we can reach our greatest potential if we try hard enough

    Ricardo Lopez is the best pound for pound boxer of all time:
    *52-0 professional record with one draw (38 KO's--73%)
    *37-1 amateur record (some say 40-0)
    *21 Title Defenses spanning 11 years
    *WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF Champion
    *Most consecutive title bouts without a loss (26)
    *One of three champions to retire undefeated
    *Only champion to retire as an undefeated amateur and undefeated pro
    *More undefeated fights than Mayweather and Marciano
    Plus the best boxing skills you will ever see (both offense and defense) and a really humble guy with no ego.

    • @primovid
      @primovid 8 років тому +19

      +truthsave Fair enough, but remember, Mayweather had 6 amateur losses while Lopez had none (or maybe 1 when he was 16).
      Also, Mayweather only knocked out 53% of his opponents while Lopez had a 73% knock out percentage and Lopez is only 105 lbs!
      Lopez was an aggressive fighter who was not afraid to mix it up in the ring and didn't rely on his defense to win on points, like Mayweather.
      Finally, Mayweather, to his credit, had titles in multiple weight divisions but would have be virtually impossible for a little guy like Lopez who is only 5'5" and 105 lbs.

    • @LSturdy
      @LSturdy 8 років тому

      primovid I hear you Ricardo López was a hell of a fighter,
      Mayweather.was a aggressive fighter earlier in his career but I think he saw the effect of getting hit to much, first hand from his uncle and father and he turned into a defensive fighter and that Make's sense to me...lol
      That five weight division is very impressive to me.
      Do you know why Lopez didn't go to the Olympics ?

    No cabe duda... el invencible Ricardo "el finito" Lopez (Ricardo Martinez para los fans de Ippo), un boxeador con una técnica perfecta ( por eso lo de "finito") pero que ademas tenia una potencia nockeadora insuperable para su categoria. Con un record de 52 peleas ganadas, 0 derrotas, 1 empate (por suspensión medica del combate) es sin lugar a dudas el mejor boxeador mexicano de todos los tiempos (aunque existen fuertes contendientes a dicho titulo). Saludos

      Have you guys watched the anime "Ippo No Hajime?" Your comments kinda reminded me of a piece of dialogue during the fight between the main character and the Mexican champion, Ricardo Martinez, which was a character inspired on Ricardo Lopez. In this piece of dialogue, they highlight how Mexican punches reach farther than you think and catch you by surprise....It's funny because the japanese creators actually thought the same way as you do...."How did he hit him? He was so far away from him!"

    • @MrTachyon3000
      @MrTachyon3000 9 років тому

      Asesino217 Thanks for mentioning it. Hajime No Ippo is a pretty cool Japanese anime. I like the fact that the character Ricardo Martinez is a boxer with integrity and sportsmanship, just like Finito Lopez was in and out of the ring.

      @NukePower217 9 років тому

      MrTachyon3000 Did you know about the anime beforehand? I also think it's pretty cool :) And though he doesn't appear much, Ricardo Martinez is my favorite character :) He humiliates Ippo in the sparring and he destroys Date Eiji (the latter is one of my favorite fights in the anime)

      bro, i couldn't agree more.. He is my favorite Mexican fighter of all time. beating Chavez. Guys like Chavez, and Sal Sanchez, and even Carlos Zarate; these guys were tough, just naturally built tough( in the case of Sanchez a lot more gifted than Chavez and Zarate) so they could never really heir any of their teaching to future generaions
      however, Finito lopez, he was not only built tough, but he had incredible knockout power in his hands. He was so technical both defensively and when letting his hands go it was beautiful. His defense can still be seen in some of Berenstein's up in coming fighters.

    The man that was #2 on the list was actually Pipino Cuevas, but I understand the compliment. I think Ricardo Lopez had the prettiest boxing form I have seen since Alexis Arguello at super featherweight, another man with a great left hook that didn't make the list!

    I respect Mayweather's skills but he would have been destroyed by the likes of Aaron Pryor. El Finito would have probably had difficulty being a much smaller man but he was still far superior to anyone Floyd has ever faced.

    He's great for sure but I personally think the greatest Mexican we ever saw was Salvador Sanchez that mans stamina and chin was just crazy we will never see it again and only fought to the age of 23 sadly passed away RIP sal.

    • @mmmodafoca
      @mmmodafoca 10 років тому +1

      The thing about Sal Sanchez being better than finito, i disagree is that sal sanchez had his career tragically shorten, so we don't know how he would've done or handled the furture success and fame that came with beating wilfredo gomez.
      on the other hand, you have Finito who did manage to complete his career, and we can say with certainty that he fought the best, never once losing. The technique Finito uses can actually still be seen by Berenstein's fighters. Including Juan Manuel Marquez.

    Great fighter no question. Robert Garcia says some very complimentary things in an interview when he is questioned about Rigondeaux. The only thing I don't understand is why people can't look at a great fighter from the past without bringing Mayweather's name in the conversation. Can't you just appreciate this man's skills and leave it at that.

    • @soloM81
      @soloM81 10 років тому

      what does Robert Garcia have to do with Ricardo, why are you talking about Rigondeaux

    • @JediKnight1007
      @JediKnight1007 10 років тому

      soloM81 My bad man I meant to say that I saw an interview where Robert Garcia said in his opinion that Ricardo Lopez was the most skilled Mexican fighter ever. That's obviously his opinion and people are free to disagree but that has nothing to do with Rigondeaux so my mistake for typing the wrong name. Must have had Rigoneaux on the brain lol.

    Ricardo "Finito" Lopez is a legend. The "Greatest Strawweight and Light Flyweight Champion Ever" according to the Houston Boxing Hall of Fame, which is a voting body composed entirely of current and former fighters. But don't say Mayweather is a backyard fighter or weak. You don't have to put down one legendary boxer to uplift another. Finito is a legend, and (even if you don't like his overly defensive style) Mayweather is too.

    Much respect for Ricardo Lopez. Hes a great fighter, very good boxing skills and very good footwork. But i dont think he's undefeated. He was viciously knocked down by a dynamite overhead right hand by Rosendo Alvarez in the 2nd round of their first fight. Ricardo got hurt many times in that first fight. I think that first fight shouldnt have been a draw. I think Rosendo Alvarez should have won that first fight.
