He was a great person and champion and one of the most underrated HW boxers of all time. He's a second on my list of top 10 HW boxers of all time. And no, that overrated Ali is not no. 1.
One of the hardest punchers to ever live. George Forman got his start in boxing by being Sonnys sparing partner, and said Sonny was the harest single puncher he ever been in the ring with and was the only man to ever force him to take a step backwards and force him to box. In the book of ST Louis gangsters a police officer talked about how they had to double handcuff Sonny when ever he was arrested because he was so stong,he could rip a single pair off. And he use to balance him self upside down off of a plank to strengthen his neck.and that takes super human strength alone , and is very impressive. I could just imagine him with a trainer like Cus D'Amoto, or like the guy that trained Joe Louis, this guy could have gone to great heights.but still one of my favorites
@@rm3869 fuckin true Tyson is nothing compared to him I love iron Mike but tyson got it from his like forman did Sonny liston the first badass is the face of sports and the father of boxing techniques
Heartbreaking that society didn't give him a chance. I think he was a good person and he knew right from wrong, because George Foreman said that when he was friends with Sonny, Sonny always tried to teach George how to stay out of trouble, be polite and respectful, etc. I hope wherever you are, Champ, that God is taking good care of you.
Yeah! Just reading Gallender's book on the Truth Behind the Ali-Liston Fights...Too bad Sonny was 44, with a bad shoulder, and targetted by Ali's taunting, otherwise he would have sent Ali to the hospital...
@@ChristIsGod777 Nah, 44 Liston was born anywhere between 1919-1921, in which Liston's sister confirmed that Liston's true birthdate by her account happened on November 2nd, 1919.
It was a privilege to be at Sonny's trng camp before the first title fight with Floyd. As I watched him destroy sparring partners I said. This is the next Champ. May God have mercy on him
This song doesn't go wid this video but besides a good tribute to one of Boxing's Great Fighters and 'Sonny Liston ' I believe had and still has the Best Jab in Boxing history and R I P .
Even tho Liston was old he still hit like a mule but Ali or clay was just too fast and was never flat footed unless he wanted to punish Joe Frazier that’s the only time I saw him flat footed thrilla in Manila
I would say that I am no slouch when it comes to boxing knowledge, and I have wrestled mentally for decades trying to separate Ali and Sonny at the top of the heavyweight tree.
great idea to make a tribute for sonny, I love the guy, appreciated your idea and I respect it too. But honestly, Sonny lived in the 60's, the Dre beat ain't got shit to do with it.
I know but most of my videos I don't look at it as he lived in the 60's so I should just music from then, I go with the flow and add whatever I think sounds good, also I felt it fit with his 'criminal' ruthless and hard attitude. Might be crude but its just how I am, thanks for the feedback anyway bro!
Dom Harte thank you for the video and the response. I hope you'll make more highlights. Oliver Mccall, Tim Witherspoon and Ray Mercer would be great highlights that nobody never made. Peace
+carlito boxing I do like highlight clips with music from the era of the fighter. Liston's favorite song was the night train. But there is already a clip with that song. But I also like the gansta-rap connection. Liston was a bad ass himself.
Did you notice the difference in hand size between Sonny and Floyd @1:22 mark. Plus this might have been Sonny's training song today instead of Night Train
Sonny Liston was notorious for his massive hands. He had perhaps the largest fists of any heavyweight champion in history. His fists measured 15 1/2 inches. To put that into perspective, his hands were nearly twice the size of the average man’s!
Sonny and Ali were the two best in my opinion, and having watched fights from the 50s onwards I can say that I am a pretty shrewd judge. This I do know, both would have beaten Marciano. Nowadays, with boxing in the state it is in, I wouldn't watch a bout if it were held for free in my back garden.
Crazy about this these blows to head i yook in December yet ones watch me now i foing better then alot on few walked this walk and shows they are R I P or. GREAT FOOTAGE ON SONNY LISTON!...
Remember that Floyd Patterson was little when he fought Liston and scared of him too.
Son😅ney was 🐐 and his story shows to what extent the world is unjust.

I still say a 22 year old Sonny Liston would have beaten a 22 year old Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. Liston was a little old when he fought Clay in '64.

Boxers aren't heroes. Your values are twisted.
They sacrifice their lives for our own entertainment which makes them heros.
