  • People joke all the time about how stressful a wedding can be. Well guess what? THEY'RE RIGHT! Joanna is the first person in her family to get married in the USA and it's been... a culture shock.

I haven't gotten married, but at my quince I only was able to invite like 5 of my friends because my mom decided to invited everyone and their cousins.

Well... It's not a horror wedding story but whatever. I am Venezuelan and I left last year and moved to Colombia with my boyfriend. My whole family is still in Venezuela and my brother was getting married May 5th (The church one, the civil one was April 28th) And I had my heart broken into pieces because I couldn't afford to go. It was early February and I got a decent job. My boyfriend was the one who had to take care of every penny he made for us to live, because we knew I just HAD TO GO to my brothers wedding (Only brother, btw) I saved money like I've never saved before. We ate a lot less, bought cheap shit and worked a lot. There were moments I wasn't sure I was going to make it because it was expensive and I couldn't just go through the border (I live far from it) Finally 10 days before the date I wanted (cheapest flight) I got the money and got to surprise my brother and all my family (They didn't know) My mom almost faints and my dad looked as if he saw a ghost (We didn't really got the chance to say good bye when I left) And I had the most amazing two weeks back home and got to see my brother getting married. So be happy that you have your family with you on that amazing day. I wish you the best

My brother is getting married this year too and every time I have a question about the wedding he says: "I don´t know ask Mariela she knows everything". It drives me nuts.

My wedding was "Meh! Who gives a shit? I'm not spending 10000 to give strangers free alcohol, let's just spend that money in the honey moon. Deal?"

Joanna, I understand. My wedding was 16 years ago, and it nearly killed me with stress. My family is Mexican, and every third cousin was invited. My husband is white, and comes from a small family. When it was time to take pictures of the bride and groom’s family, his 13 relatives fit neatly in the frame. My family was 6 rows deep with people in the back standing on chairs, and those down in front were laying on the grass. There were over 70 people in my family portrait! (And only those who lived locally came) The photographer had to stand on a ladder to get everyone in frame. It’s the worst wedding photo ever!

Honestly idk how wedding can last just for 2 or 4 hours, like wtf. In México our weddings start in the afternoon and usually we stay until 6 or 7 am of the next day, then we go to our houses take a shower and come back at maybe 11am or 12pm for the "recalentado". We know how to party. lmao

I've never wanted to get married and if I ever do. I'm just going to elope, it's cheaper and less stressful. Although I'll get disowned by my Venezuelan family.
