Anytime I see Louis Cole or Nate Smith being that funky on a three piece kit all I can think is that everything I thought about drumming as a kid was completely wrong.
@Topjunkie That's like saying it takes more creativity to solo on a 4 string bass than on a 6 string. I don't think that's necessarily true, it's just a different approach
@Topjunkie I get where you're coming from but the fact there are so many exceptions to all of what you just said proves it's an oversimplification. For sure, extra bells and whistles and pyrotechnics can be used as crutches. And I, too, tend to prefer the groove/sound specialists with the tiny kits. But in the end, each part of the kit is merely there to provide a different sound, and making interesting music with all those sounds still requires practice and skill and creativity. I'm sure if I took away all but the two middle octaves on Keith Jarrett's piano, he wouldn't sound as interesting either. Meanwhile, check out "René Creemers Kaleidoscope" for an idea of how much additional musicality you can get out of toms and cymbals. The fact that Pert and Mangini don't sound interesting on a 3-piece kit merely proves they haven't spent much time practicing sounding interesting on a 3-piece kit-not that they're not creative or musical. :)
The tone of that sax is NASTY! It tickles the parts of my brain that were forever changed after watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time as a child. Side note: Yoko Kano and the seatbelts should collaborate with Vulfpeck someday.

@@Torrybobs thank you! The show has been pushed back basically since the pandemic started, finally happening next Friday. Louis Cole and the Big Band!!!
@@AfferbeckBeats Some nice people already commented on the dominant hand, and I believe that this is the prominent reason, as well. Particularly when you consider that 85-90% of the world population is right-handed, this kind of consolidated the crossed-hand technique. Nonetheless, every drummer should consider playing and exercising open-handed. It builds up the drumming game in an outstanding way! Plus, you'll be compared to Louis Cole, Robert Sput Searight, Carter Beauford, and all these cool cats, so... it's a win-win!
@@AfferbeckBeats its because the hi-hats keep time, so you want your dominant hand on that. you might think, "why dont they put the hi-hat on the right side?" Oh cool, Jack's doing a vulf clips advent calendar for us.
Amped for Gaudete Sunday?!
If you will it, Dude, it is no dream.
I would buy a vulf calendar faster than they can put it out

Dude, the absolute positive energy VULF brings to the stage - it’s so irresistible, they’ve even got Louis Cole smiling!
So positive they got Louis to smile after he checked his bank account
Camera guy needs to show some love to Woody. Y'all know he's just over there smiling whilst killin it.
I love how everyone is playing out of their minds and Jack's in the middle vibing just as hard
Even better when he joins on the clav
"I'll have what he's having."
Nah he was playing air guitar for a few!
Louis Cole has never been so Louiscolistic
And rarely without his name on his clothes or instruments.
Hes too busy drumming for Clown Core

That moment when LC and Joe Dart fall into the groove.... pure beauty.
That rhythm section is kinda nuts
The ENERGY tha Louis brings to the stage. Everyone is so hyped! Love it!
@John Verne yes, he did. Great guy! Got to work with him one day here in Argentina. He was in great mood all the time
Louis Cole looks like that crazy kid in the back of the band class shoeless just going ham on the percussion and snorting ground up smarties
drum game allison reynolds
Louis Cole and Vulfpeck is what i really needed to make my day better. Thx for this

Vulfpeck has gotten to the point where Jack is literally just walking around on stage and still be the most important person in the band
He jumped, also, and then it stopped.

He's becoming Jack cocker, funk frontman
isnt that an old clip bc of the joe dart fender bass?

I love how these guys always seem amazed with themselves. Like they are all blowing their own minds. Fantastic performance.
My god that drummer compliments the band like no other!!!!!!!!!!!!
New appreciation for Joe Dart On The Fender Bass.... What a sound....
I love how these guys always look like they’re having a blast. Their shows are just one giant jam session.
LC bringing the snare into the bass build-up: it's amazing to see such a perfect section be developed into a whole new but still phenomenal sound
He made that sound a million times better, I was thinking the same. 👍🌹
