    Love this harness for our 80 lb. pit bull mix. She loves car rides and this makes her outings safe and happy for everyone. It's easy to let her out of the car for a walk or potty break since we can hook her leash to the harness and switching gear isn't required.

    This video says to avoid locking the seat belt. The video explaining the s-clip says to lock it. Is there a reason for the difference?

    Just got a clickit sport today. My dog is VERY good wearing the harness, and stays still. BUT - like the other reviews I've read, he immediately got tangled in it. We figured out how to thread the belt in a way that wouldn't strangle him if he stayed still, but unlike the small poodle in this video, my dog cannot lay down facing the front of the car. He's 60 lbs and lays down the length of the seat. When a dog is in this position, the seatbelt is in a very strange position over the dog, wrapping under the dog to hook into the seat belt receptacle. My dog immediately tried to eat through the seat belt, even though he's used to wearing a harness & being secured via a seatbelt-leash line to the car. (I was wanting a safer, proven, alternative to this). Been there, done that with seatbelt replacement (on my car costing $800!). I can't figure out how to not have this be a choking/other hazard for my dog & fall into the populous camp of other reviewers who have had their dogs tangled in the seatbelt. RE: the "S" clip - a) the video link you quote below doesn't work b) How safe can it be if it prevents the seatbelt from retracting? The seatbelt functions by retracting upon impact. If you block that function by giving slack to the seatbelt, blocking it at top, then it seems like a waste. Look forward to your comments/help! Thank you!

      Hi Julie - We appreciate your thoughts and concerns. Pets are family members and we only want the best for them. We’ll try to address your concerns once by one. While your pup is familiar to a seatbelt via leash line restraint, the Clickit Sport is inherently a more restrictive restraint system. Sleepypod believes, based on testing and research, pets should be able to adjust position but not walk about -similar to humans restrained by seatbelts. Because restricting movement is a behavior change, Sleepypod recommends acclimating your pet to his new safety harness. The instructional video provides tips. Also, our Pet Travel Safety Begins With Training video provides tips - While some pets take to this restricted movement right away, others might take a little more time with the acclimation process to become accustomed and used to the change. Sleepypod recommends using the safety harness according to the product’s instructions. Regarding the S-Clip instructional video, you can find it on our UA-cam channel at ua-cam.com/video/XHizbFdPFLM/v-deo.html AS As you watch the instructional video, you’ll notice that we recommend when adjusting the S-Clip, you should remove any excess seatbelt slack. Our customer service team is available to help you with additional acclimation tips and product questions. If you feel our product is not suited to your pet, our team can help you with a product return. You can reach the team at contact@sleepypod.com or (626) 421-6818.

      Thank you for your reply. BTW, I'm publicly posting these comments and questions in the hope that they may help others. Yes, I've watched all of the Sleepypod videos including the "s clip." I called your office and Clara suggested a seatbelt lock would work as well. Question: The instructions for child seat seatbelt locks say to position the lock at the top of the latch that goes into the seatbelt receptacle - not at the top of the shoulder strap, like your S-clip. For example: www.amazon.com/Sungrace-Metal-Lock-Silver-Pack/dp/B0797KBGD5/ref=sr_1_11_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1522461707&sr=8-11-spons&keywords=seatbelt+clip&psc=1
      Does this make a difference to sleepypod's usage and safety? In your s-clip video it almost looks like there's no lap strap, but I'm guessing there has to be one - yes? I look forward to your reply!

      And to further one of the other folks on this conversation - It seems a little strange that if dogs becoming tangled in the product is such a ubiquitous problem, why wouldn't Sleepypod include the s-clip with the harnesses, if it indeed solves the issue?

    • @Sleepypod
      @Sleepypod  6 років тому +2

      Hello Julie - We’re happy to see if we can make the answers to your questions provided to you during your discussion with our customer service team member more clear.
      - Sleepypod’s customer service team members refer to our S-Clip as a seatbelt lock as it prevents the seatbelt from further retracting. Sleepypod never suggests use of its products in combination with non-Sleepypod products, and only with suggested Sleepypod products. 2nd party products have not been tested in combination with Sleepypod products so our team cannot verify usage safety.
      - There is indeed a lap strap in the S-Clip instructional video. At about 00:17 into the video, you will see the double strap (lap and shoulder portion of the belt) that is created when you extend the seatbelt. This again is evident at 00:24 and at 00:37 you will see the completion of the double belt that is buckled into the buckle.
      - The S-Clip was created with ease of use for frequent travelers in mind by “bookmarking” or holding your pet’s ideal seatbelt length. For those users having cars with sensitive seatbelt retractors, the S-Clip will prevent the seatbelt from further retracting. Not every customer needs an S-Clip, which is why it is sold as an accessory. While there are some dogs that need longer acclimation time using a safety restraint, the S-Clip can help with the acclimation process, but longer acclimation time is the primary source of easing into the behavior change. A good analogy for acclimating a larger pet to being restrained using a safety harness is acclimating a smaller pet to being contained in a pet carrier. Some pets take to the change right away and for others, acclimation takes a bit more time.

    You make this look easy but every time I get my dog in the car, the seatbelt locks. It's an absolute nightmare. She gets impatient and starts moving around making it even more difficult. My dog starts moving so much the seatbelt gets tangled in the harness. It's so frustrating. For walking, it is good other than that the straps get loose often.

      For the first few times it helped me to have another person there with some treats to keep the dog focused and in one place while I figured out how to hook up the harness. It was new to me and our dog at first but it quickly became routine. It gets easier the more you do it.

    Hi I recently purchased one for my 13lb Jack Russel but (I guess because she's so small) she can't even move when she's belted in. She's miserable now in the car (used to love car rides, looking out the window, etc.). I'm thinking about maybe purchasing a booster seat that buckles in to the car and then tethering her sleepypod harness to the shoulder strap of the seatbelt? Not sure if that would work but I don't want her to have to ride in one of those enclosed carriers, she would hate the car even more. What would you recommend? I want her to be safe, but she spends A LOT of time in the car so comfort is also a priority.

    • @Sleepypod
      @Sleepypod  5 років тому +1

      Hey there! We appreciate your trust in Sleepypod's Clickit safety harness for safer pet travel in the car. A couple of things to consider:
      1) Being restrained in a car is a behavior change for dogs used to riding loose or using a tethered device. That said, take some time to acclimate your pup to the new safety harness. Let your pup wear the safety harness around the harness at playtime and at the park so positive associations are made with the harness. Then restrain your pup in the back seat with you sitting next to the pup -- going nowhere, all the while offering praise and treats. Graduate to short trips to happy destinations like the park before moving to longer rides. Here is a Pet Travel Experts video with tips - ua-cam.com/video/JA4HEU2y1qU/v-deo.html
      2) Sleepypod's S-Clip accessory can be helpful. We designed the S-Clip for frequent pet travelers to make the in/out process more streamlined/faster. It also prevent sensitive seatbelt retractors from locking. If your pup is extra wiggly because he is not used to being restrained, accessory can be helpful. Watch the instructional video at ua-cam.com/video/XHizbFdPFLM/v-deo.html
      Lastly, at thirteen pounds the safety harness might be too loose for your pup and so it might be uncomfortable.Also, proper fit is important in the event of an accident. If you are unsure about the fit. Snap a front chest photo and side torso photo of your pup while wearing the Clickit harness and email it to our customer service team to evaluate. Our team can help with questions about acclimation and the S-Clip accessory as well. Can you help with sizing? It looks like in the video that you put three fingers when checking tightness of the harness but not when measuring for the harness. When I measure my dog as shown in the video, she's 22 1/4 inches around at her widest measurement with no finger spacing. What size sleepypod does she need? Small goes up to 22 inches and medium starts at 22.5. Typically I'd size up but with a car harness I wouldn't want her to be unsafe, nor would I want her to be chafed/squeezed by a too tight harness. Thanks!

    • @Sleepypod
      @Sleepypod  6 років тому

      In general, Sleepypod recommends sizing down when your pup is at the edge of harness sizes. If you want to be sure you can always take a photo of your pup's chest and also a side shot of your pup's torso and email it along with measurement information and any concerns to Sleepypod's customer service team. The team has a great deal of experience helping owners of dogs of all shapes and sizes to determine the best size product. Email the team at contact@sleepypod.com.

      Based on Sleepypod's researching testing, Sleepypod recommends pets under approximately 18 lbs should use a crash-tested carrier and not a safety harness for safer car travel. Even car seats for children are not tested at those high speeds. I think they are tested at 40 MPH. Yes, people can technically survive high speed crashes, but they usually have many broken bones and severe injuries. When my child was born, I was horrified that car seats were not tested for high speeds. But the harsh reality is that manufacturers don't spend the effort to make things safe at those high speeds. Perhaps it is too difficult. I say we lower speed limits drastically....will save thousands of lives in just months

      I called Sleepypod last week and left a detailed message regarding the fact that our Sleepypod Sport locks on our Australian Labradoodle time after time. I did not receive a call back. I called again today and spoke with Clara. They are sending me the S-Clip as a resolution to this known issue. My question is, why has this issue not been resolved either in the design or Sleepypod not including the S-Clip with the product! I did ask the question as to whether the Sleepypod Sport has been crash tested with the S-Clip. Clara advised that is has been and it's fine. I will update this site with the results when I have received the S-Clip.

    The width of that would rub the skin off between my silky's front legs (as all harnesses do). The neoprene padding would also cook the dog in the aussie heat too (if using as a walking harness). And the reflector strips are totally useless where they are positioned. Nobody except you can see your dog if it's right in front of you and you've above it... What about when your black dog gets free run time? Not to mention when its fastened with the seat belt in a newer model car, the seatbelt would be pulling the dog back into the seat because they have so much tension on them... My little dog would be either suctioned to the back of the seat in an unsafe position for their spine and or strangled by the harness pulling up wards on her neck/throat.... Its a hard pass thanks.
