Careena, If the wood is still green it would be better left outside stacked in 4x4x8h cord rows, just put some canvas over the top. Outside temps and wind will dry it better. If you place green wood in basement you get mold and bugs. Split soft wood dry's about 6 to 8 months, hardwood about a year or so. When the split wood shows gray color and has small cracks on cut off ends called ray's, then it's ready. Moister meter will show 12% or less than you get better burn and less creosote build up in cheminy.
Brandon is a very lucky man... said it before, and not ashamed to say it again. You both ROCK!! Thank you for the new vid.. (cant wait for Paddling and Camping vids this season !!! 😎👍❤️
Been there! Done that.! We know exactly what's required, the ups & downs and the rest that goes with it. Took us ten years to get our piece of paradise up & running including a lovely daughter plus twin girls. They're all bushcraft & survival proficient, furthermore you are their hero. We even made Pukkos for them to use in the outback bush (woods where you come from). We watch you channel as a family viewing usually after dinner. Cheers for sharing mate. Stay safe guys. Warm greetings from Australia.
Beautiful staining Careena. Both of you know how to cut wood to make the most out of the grain, and then stain it so that it can continue to tell its story for generations. Much respect and gratitude.
Really like this kind of content Careena. Be careful around that wood chipper… I saw a worker almost get dragged into one when a branch grabbed him around the ankle as it was being pulled in. And he was much bigger than you! 😱 All the best, John in Ohio
Good afternoon Mind some tips from an old timer Splitting wood get a sludge hammer no bigger than the splitting axe once the axe is in the wood use the sludge to drive it through NOTE never aim for the center of big pieces it may get really stuck Get a dead tire off Brandons half ton mount it around the chopping block That way as you cut wood you don't need to keep putting the wood back on the block And if you do a bad swing with the ax it will stay in the tire not go for your foot (Time to make a 10 by 10 wood shed) Way better than storing wood in the house (bugs) Try the tire thing you will be surprised how much it speeds up the wood cutting Don't work to hard you'll be surprised how fast summer can slip by See you on the trails
Yes, this kind of format is good because you two are wonderful people, with great attitudes and your not scared to try!!! Thats just a winning combination for a good vid!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
brandon is very lucky to have such a great helper/partner in his life!!! (be sure he sees this!! LOL) great video thanks for sharing & be safe out there!!
Hello, time to hit you up again. Just watched your video on the house build, setting your tiles on the floor etc,, As for me i have spent time in Canada working a summer on P.E.I. And thumbing rides around maritime north east of your country, great people, part of me will always live there. Never made it to the rock, however visited much of N.S. Take care, Warm Regards to both of you and the pooch .
Came back to look and see,, like your camp out with the dog in the wet snow and wild dogs. The coldest we have ever had down here is -14.2, that was in 1996. Most winters are just above zero. Warm regards to you all.
Always easier splitting in the cold. But gotta do it when you get time. Tree work is rewarding, tough, but satisfying. I'd come out of retirement for a couple of days to do some more. Easy.
Not that you need the suggestion, I usually keep a pic of my bar info off the saw on my phone so I don’t need to guess. Or the last alternate chain I used if I need a different type of cut. Gone through a few Oregon Chain and Bar sets the last few years. All while looking for a better cut from the saw.
Grew up poor on the farm, drafty old house no insulation, heated it with three woodstoves. Bought my first chainsaw at 13, drove the tractor into town to buy it. First 22 years of my life no wood splitter, only axe, sledge and wedges. Lord knows the calories expended...I'm still skinny trying to catch up 30 years later. I have a maple to trim and 2 dead birches to take down for a guy nearby in the next week or two. Mostly I just cut trees in the bush logging with horses. Hate cutting around houses. Hey we use the same sawmill! You can see it in one of my recent videos "hauling sawdust" Nice channel.
Awesome job guys ! Nice to see a young couple work hard together at home & work, Again great job you will learn so much from each other :) you have a very health relationship !
I'm not sure if Husqvarna does it like Stihl, but you can take a picture with your phone of the Number on the Bar, that gives you all the information on which Saw Chain to get.
I'm enjoying all of you and Branden's videos! Thankyou for all your hard work. Makes me want to learn how to do what you do. Love from Montverde, Florida!
You and Brandon are very hard workers Alexis. Hard work can get monotonous and discouraging but in the end it does pay off. Always take time to rest and enjoy life as well or you'll burn out. God even took a day off, not that He needed it but He knows we do. Love your videos. 👍
This content is fine with me...all your videos are great!!! My husband and I went on a little vacation in our travel trailer and I videoed part of the trip....gonna attempt at making one. We want to do this when we retire and travel. Editing scares the crap out of me but I will watch some videos on it. What would you recommend for free editing software?
Is your chainsaw chain blade beyond repair/sharpening? A Dremel tool with a sharpening bit is what I used when I ran my own firewood business. Worked really well and a lot faster than using a hand tool sharpener.
Even though this isn’t a bushcraft like video, it is pretty awesome! Do y’all own a tree service? There’s probably really good money in that where y’all live seeing the size of the trees your working with! At least you’ve got all the right tools to get the job done! One thing though that never changes is having to work on chainsaws!😂Here, with my job, I have to work on chainsaws, weed eaters, mowers, mules, atv’s, and tractors mostly so I know the feeling! Great video! Good luck on getting your new house done!
@@careenaalexis that’s really cool! I’m from Texas, and I own a lawn care business and do tree work too. Nothing as big as the white pines y’all have because there are no trees in my area that big. It’s hard and hot work with the heat here, but I enjoy it. Anyhow I enjoy all your videos and learning about bushcraft. Keep up the cool videos!
Youre starting your axe swing from overhead and having to put a lot of muscle on the down stroke. Try starting with your axe hanging beside you and 'looping' up and around behind you, building momentum the whole way. Let the weight of the axe head do most of the work. 👍
Being from Maine originally, a lot of my Uncles and cousins are or were in the lumber industry. This was a great video, but where's the Skiddas? LOL. Cheers
Someone, maybe Mike Rowe of the former cable show, "Dirty Jobs," once said "people love watching other people working hard." I think he was right. This was fun to watch.
Um, I think you meant unhealthy trees that threaten peoples houses. We don't take these down for pleasure, these people pay really good money for tree professionals to come and remove these dead or dying trees that have potential to fall on their house, cars or other people.
Thank you for this video. Into bushcraft, cooks steaks on the coals, kayaks, camps out in rugged weather, runs heavy equipment and chainsaws. Yep, she's a certified unicorn!

Get a dead tire off Brandons half ton mount it around the chopping block
That way as you cut wood you don't need to keep putting the wood back on the block

Loved the vid. All your hard work will be worth it in the end for both of you, and will be a super sweet memory.
It's pretty neat how all your occupations and hobbies complement one another. It really shows that your doing what you're passionate about.
That's pretty cool you guys have a good business. That's all that matters Congratulations and Good Luck.
This video was Awesome, seeing you and your hubby working together was great. Keep them coming GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY
I do enjoy watching these type of vids, seeing how people negotiate they're working day!👍 it's hard work ( but important) they earn their daily Bread!
Beutiful Alexis, Brandon is a lucky man, you both work great together! Love all your videos, old, and new! Awesome job!

Love the new direction of your channel!!! 👍🏼
Thanks Stacy!!
You had a full day. Good for you two.
Nice to see someone building a life, and a house and NOT whining and begging the viewers to buy everything for them! Well done you two!

Great video and a nice inside look at what you guys do. I'm worn out from just watching how much physical work you both do in a typical day.

Like the ‘hop’ @ 2:14 when splitting your firewood !
Finally someone who splits firewood(not chops) and saws without wearing chanisaw chaps. Awesome
Great video, I get tired watching you guys work, I don't think there is anything you can't do.
Thanks for sharing!

It's obvious why you and everybody in the video are in such great shape. No trouble working like that and falling asleep at night.
As always loving these videos. Do you guys watch van wives? They are building their epic off grid cabin in Canada also.
