New-ish listener here. Was wondering what the “offseason” would look like here. One week in and it feels like the middle of October. I love it.

Jk there is no off-season here.

Nick Saban was a nice change of pace

Miami fan here.... Canes getting ready to turn the corner
On Josh’s wake-up to the “30s Alabama fan crowd” not experiencing 8-4, that’s true. As always for me, Josef is spot on on this issue. As an older fan I’ve experienced the 8-4 Josh mentions as well as 😢 4-8 in the post-Bear debacle that was caused by excessive booster meddling and pathetic decision making. Saban ENDED THAT SH** as a condition of taking the job. So as long as AD Byrne and sideline-Saban can keep that in effect, the DeBoer years should be fine and he should keep Alabama in the upper tier of College Football, but of course no coach could duplicate Coach Saban’s success and shouldn’t be expected to do so.
I had this amazing REVELATION OF GENIUS … instead of over analysis and attacking the new coach before he’s been in town for a week, perhaps he should be allowed to build a staff and team and prepare for spring ball like any other coach. I feel that Coach DeBoer is a good coach who can and will do well at Alabama in the SEC and he is also a really good human being who has in his past and will continue to resonate with players, coaches, and fans.
So yes CARE ABOUT ALABAMA FOOTBALL but don’t obsess and ruin the start at Alabama for the new Coach and his New Team. Chill and let it happen. If you “the obsessive Alabama fan” had all of the answers, why didn’t Greg Byrne and the University hire you as Head Football Coach?
Lighten up and be thankful UA didn’t hire a version of Mike Dubose or Mike Price! We have a good guy so give him a chance! Saban’s predecessor Mike Shula (great Alabama QB, great person, but not Head Coach material) took the job at a really bad point in Alabama history and I’ll always be grateful to him for that.
But Shula was Head Coach for FOUR SEASONS and NEVER ONCE BEAT LSU or Auburn and only Beat Tennessee once. Not a happy time for fans to go 1-11 against their 3 main rivals, but even with that NOBODY DIED SO Hypercritical Alabama Fans LIGHTEN UP!!!!!!!
Telling him to lighten up ehh? 😅
Shula did beat Tennessee… once. “Rocky Stop” my freshman year at Bama.
I too appreciate coach Shula. He came here when no one wanted the job, on serious probation, limited scholarships and did win 10 games one year under those circumstances . He kept our program clean during that time and didn't leave us. He gets a bad rap unfairly imo. I've had the good fortune to have been born able to watch coach Bryant, Stallings and Saben. People need to check their expectations at the door and support the new coach.
You can thank the Bama fans whom have not had to worry Pate for the subs. Our privelidge have now become your privelidge! Thanks for the updates Pate!
I’m a 64 yr old bama fan so ve seen ups and downs I was going through bears time it’s great I’ll still support my new coach like I did gene stallings bama s always had a natty every 10 years what a history

Great show! Enjoy your take! Would love to see a CFB Commish and Saturday championship game.
Hi, Mr. Pate, something to consider about Miami.....when was the last time Miami had an NFL caliber QB? A lot of people look past that when talking about Miami. Miami beats Clemson with a 1st time starting true freshman QB, and gave FSU's mercenary team all it could handle with that same true freshman QB in his second start. Miami with an NFL caliber QB could be a different animal. I'm not making any predictions, but they will be a very interesting team to pay attention to.
Yeah they also chose to run the ball against GT instead of taking a knee and lost the game. And that same head coach is still there.

Best show to watch by far
I was the Tennessee fan in the gym, wearing a Belmont sweater lol. Good to meet you Josh, and I'll be less out of breath next time
Okay, I had to do it, aspire !
FSU has 3 rivalry games every year: Clemson , Miami and Florida. We played Clemson in September this year and it was a good thing.
Clemson isn't a rival, stop making shit up. Y'all ONLY started saying that when they started winning natties 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Joke, joke, joke. ACC = Joke!
You always know what you’re talking about. Yeah it’s been great but I remember when we lost half our games and lost against auburn all the time. I hope this season goes well and I’m happy with the hire
It’s all about the U, Josh! 🙌
Well you nailed the Bama narrative! You’re a wise man.
Aye josh you hit harder in the OFF SEASON than in season
You talk about lucky to grow up with Saban. Well I am 69 and grew up with bear bryant at bama. I was even luckily enough to be there for final game. Even I went through the long desert till the new prophet came out of the desert and I been here for the time of Saban now I get to watch a new coach come to bama. I have been blessed . Roll tide. Randy at Huntsville Al
He is our coach!!! I will support him for 3 years... I am not saying we must win a natty in 3 years because a lot of our old assistants are trying to gut our team. But, in 3 years, we will know if we are in great hands. By the middle of the 2nd year, we will if we are in good hands.
Quite frankly, I had rather have the hungry team player #2 or 3 recruit than the lazy and/or not loyal #1 recruit.
WE ARE ALABAMA. WE WILL BE FINE!❤ RTR!!!
You are correct. We Bama fans have to be realistic and patient
I agree 100% I hate the Monday night national title game. Some of us are up at 5 Am or earlier for work....
Not so fast T Rob was back today at Bama to interview for DC job 😂😂😂
Great show. Dudes going to be ion ESPN soon (not sure that’s a good thing or not).
As to rivalry week... As a person from Alabama with several family members who back either Alabama or Auburn, the date after Thanksgiving is absolutely necessary. It takes the time between the game and Christmas Day for several to be willing to sit down to dinner together, much less speak to each other....😜
Saban being “not far” from the team and having, as Deboer said, “all-access” seems like a problem waiting to happen. Saban needs to back off and make sure it’s clear that Deboer is the guy in charge. Reminds me of Jay Leno letting Conan have the Tonight Show at 11:30pm but then taking the 10:00pm time slot.
HE WILL NOT be overbearing. Deboer brought his best staff members
listening from Thailand
I started in the Bear Bryant era and lived through the Ray Perkins, Bill Curry era. I'm prepared
I wonder if kirby's hire of Travaris Robinson hints at Glen Schumann potentially going somewhere - he's gotta be a top guy on a lot of head coaching searches.
TRobb is trash, trust me. I'm a cane fan. Y'all fucked up
I thought the same thing.
I seen the great Bear Bryant coach his last 2 seasons in Alabama.
Growing up, I had one year of Shula. I’m thankful for every season I got to grow up in the Saban Era. The main is going to be one of the best if not the best, to ever do it. To be honest I expected the team this year to go like 8-4? Man’s goes on to lead them to a playoff birth. It’s absolutely mind blowing what he could do. Heads up high and praying for a smooth transition. I think they’ve got a solid hire and I’ll give him 3 years before I become critical. As long as we aren’t going less than 6 wins.
1/14/24 - Josh, Do you think that Clemson will suffer because of the Portal? Great show!
UW players gave a standing ovation at the end? LOL news to me
I heard a few hours ago that Alabama has interviewed T-Rob for the vacant DC job, so there's a chance he comes back to Alabama and they keep Caleb Downs
Hello Josh!

Also kind of sad, that you never mentioned 5 star, Malachi Nelson went to Boise State…….😢
As a Georgia fan who has gotten to experience traveling to the Natty, it is enjoyable to have a whole weekend to enjoy a new city leading up to the game
Josh decided he needed to spell "fore"... that's epic!
Go Canes!🧡💚
Curious to see Pate's take on the FSU transfer portal and how they have taken a bunch of players from Alabama already. But woudn't be surprised if that didnt happen. Mike Norvell is COOKING baby!!!
I believe that Kalen Deboer is very possibly one of the top three to five college coaches in the country, and this could not have worked out any better for Bama than possibly getting Kirby Smart to leave Georgia and come to Alabama. Timing is everything in life and the timing for this hire also could not have worked out any better. I absolutely am going to miss Coach Saban, but I also am looking forward to football season 2024. And I just have to wonder just how fortunate we are to have one of the better women’s college softball teams with great support! I think this might very well have been meant to be. I think it is going to be fun!
I remember watching the Bear walking the sidelines and your right I’ve seen some bad years in between him and coach Saban
And bama fans are about to see a lot more bad years 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Why not just schedule the National Championship on a Friday?
I think Joel's idea is great too, it is similar to what the NCAA has done with the Celebration Bowl where the HBCU national championship gets a lot of the at large CFB viewership
Georgia also has a recruiting dynamo coming from the west coast in Dante from usc.
Bama has a history of multiple dynasties in different eras, and 18 national championships for good reasons. We'll be just fine. Roll Tide.
Im 28 and i know those pre-saban years VERY well, fear the thumb and all that

Young Bama fans are kinda like I was growing up as an fsu fan in the 90s. I didn’t know pain….until…16
Miss having T-Rob at SC. He was just about the one good thing in the Muschamp era at SC.
32:00 it's a game of 301 (at the dartboard) one sh**ty hand and the opponent has climbed back in it or is in striking distance.
I disagree on one point. As a bama fan who’s nearly 30, I remember the Mike Shula years.. I remember being a program that made me feel like trash, especially when we were being owned by our rival Auburn. I remember saban coming to bama and began to build us from the broke program we were (in my opinion at least, that’s what it felt like to me). I say that to say, I and many of the bama fans I talk to, all are excited about the hire. We know it’s gonna probably be a tough couple years while he builds things his way, but we are excited to see what he can do once he does. Sure we are spoiled, but we are excited to see what comes next
So Florida State get caught offering the Georgia player 15K a month, UF OL left to FSU because his dad said he was under paid but Miami is the problem? Lol wow!!
They hate us bc they ain't us
I wouldn't want to drive Nashville Streets in just a little snow let alone a snow storm.
I’m a 32 year old life long Bama fan and alum and trust me I remember the Mike Shula era. I remember losing to auburn for six straight years. I remember being thrilled in 2005 when we won 10 games. Don’t discount millennials memory of the pre Saban Bama teams. It was very rough
Damn Tommy Rees had a good run
Turning 30 in a week Josh. I get that most people my age wouldn't get it. I played football at the age of 4, Was at Alabama games all the time. I remember Florida missing the field goal at home the year we won the Sec in '98 my best friend in my class went. I remember going to UCLA and losing. I remember ending the streak to Tennessee in the mud and a sole Alabama fan with his hair spiked holding up a sign "What Streak?". Beating Auburn in 2001 with my head busted open. From Shaun to Santonio and Ahmad, to shaud Williams and on. I remember how it hurt, how awful it felt. Never experiencing something the older Fans had. I remember the 2 and half Mikes we had there. The FranPhoney's the losing, The Hawaii "Bowls". Shula falling out of his chair postgame vs texas tech. I remember, and scared to death because of it.
There’s a lot of noise saying that Deboer offered T Rob the DC position Sunday evening, now will he come back from UGA? Probably not but there’s a chance for sure.
I was about to stay one more day to see my granddaughter, but I heard it was gonna snow so I left Nashville yesterday morning
When I listened to his press conference I thought it’s been a while since I’ve heard someone say you all in the south 😂
At least he didn't use a fake accent like that one loser.

Saban retiring trickled down to Arizona going from the odds-on favorite for the 2024 Big 12 football champs to a long shot. "Arizona is in the Big 12, as of 5 minutes ago." LOL
Big changes at alabama!!!😊
Needed changes no doubt!!
until Miami turns these Top Ranked Recruiting Classes into Wins, I'll continue to call them a Varation of Jimbo's Texas A&M Teams, great classes but can't develop and translate it to Wins 🤷♂️
You'll see soon enough how wrong you are
You'll see
TRUE TWO
That’s what I believe the SEC and BIG 10 should and will be referred as……..
Josh you made a mistake, when naming rivalries you have to say the name of the team who won last. It’s Florida state Florida for at least the next year (and probably longer)
Team who won last first*
Deborer done interviewed t-rob for dc at bama
There are rumblings about finances at Arizona being very very bad. Like not able to really field NIL deals or pay for a top end HC like Fisch
That’s my understanding as well. Sounds like it’s so bad that they couldn’t even offer Fisch without BoR approval beforehand… in February. And the figure they were going to seek approval to offer was 4.5.
I feel terrible for the Arizona program and fans. It’s a terrible spot to be in.
Paxton IL
Not necessarily saying you’re wrong Josh, but I can’t remember a time you’ve called a CFB coaching hire bad. In regards to KB.
Oh it's bad. The guy had a few good years in the weakest conference that is no more. That's it. Bama will sink back to mediocrity and I'm here for it
Heard T Rob had an interview at Bama Sunday on Sunday. Which he can technically come back. So who's smarter. I say T Rob no lose situation 😅😅
Take me to Pate State University
I’d say there’s hope for a marketing partnership with the NFL, or something else like that because of Brett Yormark (Big12 commissioner) and similar new leaders. Brett is probably more of a basketball guy than a football guy, but more importantly he has some strategic thinking that has been quite successful even before his current position and appears to be continuing.
I'm happy for Mario....I do think he's a nice guy. I'm not convinced it's the best decision by Ward.
Tomorrow is the first chance for DeBoer to show off in Alabama. Tuesday is the annual convention of Alabama high school coaches and media. Everyone says he has to impress them. I think it's a two way street. They need to impress him too.
With the big 10 having 18 teams next year and the sec only having 16 do you think the sec will pickup Florida state and Clemson to make it even?
Well, it's officially not the O word. Stay warm!
I was around the “Mike’s years” especially Shula and I’m 29 just saying lmao 😂 when Saban was hired no one expected “The Dynasty” we just want one maybe two chips he got us six chips and 17 years so in my mind I expected this since the 2020 championship game. He earned the right to walk away years ago. He’s the GOAT and it’s an unfair situation for Deboer but it is what it is, camp starts in 2 weeks as he is getting the staff together in the mean time, everything he does will be compared to Saban externally (by fans) and internally (by the current locker room players).
Coach Deboer needs to do something for the defense soon
Well he has no choice but to promote T Rob to DC, otherwise he’s going to Georgia.
Can we talk about SCAR transfer portal.
Ehh, I think anyone over the age of 25 that's an Alabama fan has experienced the bad too, we were super young, but we did live through Shula. I still remember "The Catch" and also him keeping Prothro in the Florida game when it was basically over, we also experienced 6 years of Auburn beating Bama. So, we may have raised our expectations a bit, but we definitely aren't as spoiled as many think.
Did anything happen at Florida State this weekend? It's nothing news worthy 😂
Don’t know how you determine what’s big twelve and what’s SEC viewership, so… nice vid Josh- Evan from big twelve country Oklahoma, go pokes.
@LateKickwithJoshPate, LOL. Forefathers, not four fathers. :D
Leave it to Josh to watch a football game he cannot see, Fandom at it's finest.
What is your take on KH's statements about cancelling most bowl games ?
With all of the bowl game opt-outs, and players electing to skip what used to be the most important game of the season for teams across the sport, the bowl system is certainly broken in its current format. So what Herbstreit suggests next is not too surprising. Why not just eliminate the bowls entirely?
“I think you eliminate the bowls,” Herbstreit added. “Nobody wants to play in them, don’t play the bowls. Just have the 12 teams-we’ll get excited about those-and if you want to add maybe five or six bowls outside of that, then do five or six. But we’re getting to a point where it’s ridiculous. We’re putting 6-6 teams in bowl games nobody care about. If the players don’t want to play in them, hell with it, don’t have bowl games any more.”
Josh, I don't understand the money paid to college players. Please explain! God bless.
There are a few things that might get my attention. 1) If he were to hire Scott Cochran at any job I would say whoa, now that is impressive. 2) If he hired Coach O as a defensive coordinator, I would say wow. 3) If he poached a DC from anywhere in the SEC I would say wow
Cochran isn't a great coach, he is a motivator of old. Trob interviewed at Bama DC yesterday.
We know what Bama might possibly will bring offensive wise. But the question is what does the players and coaches bring defensively. We play defensively. We play hard and ugly. We try to make their ass quit! That's Bama!
The National Championship should be played, on a Saturday.
Pretty sure the reason why the rivalries are played at the end of the season is to not hurt ratings for the remainder of the season of one of those teams. Ohio St with 1 loss in the 4 teams playoffs for example would have lost maybe half of its ratings and maybe wouldn't even fill the stadium for the rest of the season. Or if Bama loses to Auburn week 2 and they then lose a tough oocg in week 5 well there isn't so much to hope for for more than two months.
The real question with Cam Ward is, why go play for a coach who's track record with qb's is questionable
It's Monday because CBB does it that way. Well, that's not good either, aside from CBG's being twice as long. And a week is not long enough for most teams to recover and prepare.
