- NB there's an improved version of this video, with audio mix tweaks and video fixes, at • Spem in Alium in Lockd... .
Tallis' 40-part motet, sung by Trevelyans and friends, and recorded in lockdown, Christmas 2020.
Inspiration including the idea for the grid layout came from the @stileantico version, which you should definitely go listen to after this one. • 40 Parts for 40 Days: ...
Such beauty from very dark days ❤ thank you all ❤️
Each singing his own song and yet all in harmony with each other. To me this is Hope itself singing. Blessing all who hear.
So Hard ... to Listen to this ... without my face washed in tears.
I’ve just listened to this for the first time in two years, it’s brought tears to my eyes again both from the beauty of the piece but also the memory of the hardship those of us struggling with loneliness had to deal with. As an absolute amateur I’m so proud to have been part of this and can’t thank Harry enough for involving me. I found it very challenging at the time but, as a consequence, have embraced a whole new life of singing up here in the Lake District. Forever grateful!
I can't tell you how moving I find this, seeing everyone up close in their own homes, as just individuals caught up in something much bigger than themselves - and making something absolutely stupendous out of it. Thank you.
If Thomas Tallis would just know.... !!! 😭 Pure beauty! 😇
I think Tallis would be more amazed by UA-cam to be honest!!!
A great performance of this wonderful Tallis piece, some nervous faces but, who wouldn't be? It terrifies me. Well done all!
Well done with the grid layout!
This sort of video is where I like to send people who are new to Spem in alium -- being able to see how the voices come in and out really helps people appreciate (in a way that just listening or even following the massive written score doesn't) how impressive Tallis's achievement is.
Thanks! Seemed like such a simple and obvious way of presenting it, had no idea how cool and effective it would turn out. There's something very affecting about seeing the singers passing the lines one to the next - particularly in the humilitatem after the first respice.
Brilliant, I am going to show this tomorrow to my Year 7s when we are talking about Texture in music. Nothing could illustrate it better.
I'm honoured! Let me know how it goes :-)
You made me cry, for so much beauty ..! Thanks (Catalonia)
Beautiful - A work of art.
Holy crap! Why doesn’t this have a million likes?
Thanks Doc! Tell your friends!
I’ve always wanted to sing this, but I’m afraid it will never be. What a glorious, incredible sound is produced....there are no words!
Absolutely stupendous. What an incredible thing.
Incredible resonance of sound and purity of voices - one closes one’s eyes and one is immediately transported to Magdalen college chapel ... as we hope one day to reopen them and to be greeted with those sweet sights and sounds again
Let every breath prasie the Lord
Just relived this in all its glory! What a great experience! x
Outstanding, and what intonation!!!!!!!
Thanks for your kind comment. Don't tell anyone but there might have been a bit of software support for the intonation! 🤫
wunderschön gesungen, fiktiver denn je
I've been in love with this piece since the first time I heard it in the late '70s. I wasn't prepared to like this particular performance because of the virtual aspect but this was excellent. What is really fantastic is being able to "see" each voice come in and have a visual of how intricate the writing is. This has to be a wonderful tool for anyone learning this piece. Very well done!
What a joy the human voice is! Wish I could sing like this. Thank you for some love, light and peace xx
Incredibly beautiful! Tears of such emotion! Thankyou!!
one the best recordings I've seen for a good while and this is one of my favourite tunes thank you
So beautiful, what a salve to the soul in these troubled times. Moved me to tears (in a good way :) ) Many thanks to you all.
If this isn't perfection, then the word has no meaning.
A tiny bit wonderful.
Beautiful
Incredible job for a virtual choir. Thank you.
Very soothing in this awful times Muriel
Beautifully performed! This is more than enjoyable not only to sing but to which to listen!! Kudos!!
Outstanding even on computer speakers where any type of modulation is unavailable. I believe Thomas Tallis would not only be amazed, but in addition, I believe he would take pride in this version of his marvelous work. With the dumbing down of
religious services today, perhaps this could be an entry for many who are disillusioned to the great vocal works of Monteverdi and Palestrina. As William Faulkner stated in accepting the Nobel Prize. "The past is never dead. It's not even past."
Great! Thanks!
Wonderfull very beatifull and inner. Thank a lot (Fr)
Fantastic.
Beautiful!
I cried my soul out when listening to this video - not the most perfect rendition, in the whole world but I find it heartfelt and heartwrenching at the same time.
What version do you like?
@@joydarling314 My favourite is the one by the King's Singers. I know, I know, it's not totally man-made but it's perfect under any respect - and the singing IS real.
@@graziacavasino8884 thanks for responding😊
@@graziacavasino8884 Hello, what do you mean by the singing is real?
@@oddvegan9797 = live. Well, sort of. They always sing together, that makes a difference, I suppose.
This is brilliant!
wunderbar gesungen, fiktiver denn je
Это лучшее исполнение! Спасибо❤
Thank you. Wonderful!
Absolut wunderbar!
Vielen Dank dafür!
Ugliness, l can shrug off.
But beauty l can't bear...
Мэри и Джосф говорят, что равиндра и раджу были женат на красных бдительных женщинах, так что библейский закон, когда равиндра и раджу наслаждаются красными бдительными женщинами, так что эти женщины - жены
This is stunning and sublime. Where can I learn more about this project? I think I want to write about it!!!!!! It's blown my mind. I was at Purcell's Tercentenary celebration at Westminster thanks to my first Producer who was one of the singers. This is insanely beautiful. Asa technologist I wrote it off before I even watched it. I am glad, SO SO glad I did. Thank you so much.
wonderful project! well executed. I would like to use a portion of this in my ongoing podcast video. please let me know if you object. glad to send a link.
