I am so honored that you guys to did a video of the goodies I’ve sent to you both. You nailed my name! 😃 I’m so glad you enjoyed the treats. Any time you visit Boston again I’ll be happy to give you a proper food tour, complete with real lobster. 😉
Yaaay haha I definitely thought I was saying it wrong! It’s such a nice name. We absolutely loved them so much! Ah thank you so much, that’s so kind of you. It’s the same with you and London! We would be more than happy to show you around ♥️
I was super excited to see some New England snacks! I'm from NH and I loved the things you selected to represent us. Kittery Trading Post is one of my favorite places to visit while in Maine! Nice job!
MissTimarie that's so great that you sent them all these treats! So generous and creative of you. I've never heard of a lot of these snacks and I live in CA 💜
Madison L Thank you so much. If you’d like to try any of the things in the video I can send it to you. These are regional treats here in New England. 😊
Please excuse me if it's been stated before, but the brown bread is meant to be warmed up and buttered, then you put warmed baked beans over top of bread. You warm the bread by removing the label, removing one end of tin can, and place it in a pan of boiling water until fully 'steamed', remove bottom of tin, push bread out, cut into thick slices, butter, and pour on some beans. One of my favorite childhood treats.
Alex and Kate. Boston Brown Bread is traditionally steamed, not baked. That's why it's so moist. It is sort of like an English Christmas pudding, except you don't use suet when making it. Boston Brown Bread is usually made at home in a large coffee can. You pour the batter into the empty can, cover the top with aluminum foil, and seal it closed by tying a string around the top of the can. Then you place the can upright in a kettle of boiling water, cover it with a lid, and steam it for a couple of hours. That's why the bread has a cylinder shape when it comes out of the can. Boston Brown Bread is called "quick bread," because it is not made with yeast or eggs, and you don't have to let the dough rise for several hours before you bake it. Also, Boston Brown Bread is often served with Boston Baked Beans. So if you still have some of the bread left, you might open one of the cans of beans that she sent you, and serve it with the bread. It's also good with cream cheese spread on it.
I'm a new fan (subscriber) from Austin, Texas and I am LOVING watching all your videos! They are just the best and fun to share with my three young boys. The two of you are a joy to watch!
Have one I think you would really enjoy. Applesauce Raisin Cookies. 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 cup applesauce 3 cups flour 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp cloves 3/4 tsp baking soda 3/4 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup raisins (more if desired) 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Thoroughly mix all ingredients. Drop by the spoonful onto cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or til golden brown. They are a puffy cookie, so you may even want to use a toothpick and check them like you would cake. It's one of my family's favorites.
I’m from California and I’ve tried a few of those New England treats and chips and the brown bread, most of those items are sold in our grocery stores or specialty gifts shops on the California coast or any cute tourist towns, I met my husband in Cambria, California and he owned a cute shop where he sold a lot of really good sweets, fudge he made himself, and sold local made merchandise and I walked into his shop near the ocean and we kept in touch and our first real date, he drive fours to visit me and we went to Disneyland! We’ll be married 25 years in late September! We’re going to Hawaii for our anniversary! 💖... I hope someday you’ll be able to tour California and also go see Hawaii! Such a beautiful and amazing place to see in person. Hawaii also has really delicious sweets and treats and fantastic food! The sunsets are really breathtaking! Thank you for sharing, I think you two are just so cute and sweet people! 😁💖💖💖
I'm a born and raised New Englander, so I am glad to hear the many 10+/10. This was a great representation of the area. We would often have B&M baked beans and brown bread. :)
Contrary to popular belief, salt water taffy does not contain salt water. The candy got it's name because it was, and still sometimes is, made near salt water (like on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey).
I have also heard that sometimes the salt water spray from the ocean would blow into the taffy stores and get into the taffy because those taffy stores were on the boardwalks very close to the ocean . Thats why they called it salt water taffy
I'm glad to see that you guys eat kerrigold butter ! It's the best. I love your videos. I'm from Indiana USA! So many of the tasty candy and treats you've been sent are completely new to me!
Sara Barry You need to go! I have been to see a few New England states in the Spring and it’s absolutely beautiful there! And I’m from California 😁...I went there on my own several years ago and met my good friend where he lived in Massachusetts and he took me to see Rhode Island and we stayed in this adorable bed and breakfast Inn in Newport R.I.! Just amazing...Also, I had brown bread a few times from a can, it’s actually really good, especially with real butter and with any meal or just eat with butter..Before I got married, I traveled a lot and met some good friends, luckily I married someone who loves to travel and try good food! 😁💖
As a Massachusetts native now living in Florida, this video made me super nostalgic!! Used to visit the kittery trading post on Mao e vacations. This whole video made me feel like I was at the Big E Fair lol
In the States jelly is strained ,no chunks or bits of fruit, and jam is the whole fruit broken down deliciousness. I love to see and learn about the differences between countries! I love HQ, but it makes me feel so ditzy!😂🙃
Maltzu Mom PB and J makes more sense now XD. I've always pictured it with jam and it just sounded really gross. Our jelly is your jello, and then there's jam, marmalade and preserves. I don't really know what the difference between them is though.
Jelly is made with gelatin and jam isn’t...that’s the only difference between jelly and jam...jam is actually smooth as well with no chunks of fruit...preserves is the whole fruit broken down into a chunky spread...❤️
Louisa Jay our jello is a sweet jiggly gelatin based dessert...that’s the same as ur jelly? Crazy!!...I put in my other post the difference between jelly, jam and preserves...but I’m not familiar with marmalade...all I know is they’re usually made from citrus!!...
Love this one so much! I was born in New Hampshire and grew up in Vermont so I am so familiar with all these! So happy to see you enjoy some favorites! Happy Thursday and thanks for sharing with all of us! 😊
I loved this video! I also live in Massachusetts and have gone to Kittery Trading Post many times. I have an uncle who lives in Maine so we would go to Maine all the time for vacation growing up. There is a candy store called Yummies in Kittery, Maine that we always go to whenever we are there!
Yay to another Try Treats video! I *love* when you guys do these, they are my absolute favourite series of yours! You guys are so good at describing the foods and being grateful 🙏🏻
American fruit spreads 101. There are 3 basic types of fruit spreads here in the US, jelly, jam and preserves. I'll try to describe the differences here without getting too wordy. Jelly, which is what you tried in the video, is best described as gelatinized fruit juice. It's literally a jelly with no fruit chunks. This is the least expensive option. Jam is basically jelly with some chopped, crushed, or puréed fruit added. This is the mid-range option, price-wise. Preserves are much like jams except they have much more actual fruit and the fruit is usually kept in larger pieces / chunks. As you can probably guess, this would be the more expensive option. Just an FYI: Based on personal observation, the 2 most popular flavors of Jam / jellies in the US (or at least in the parts where I've lived) are strawberry and grape. Love the videos. Keep up the good work. :)
And you guys could do so much more with the beer angle. My brother in law in the Chicago area collects craft beers-he trades and has them shipped from all over the US. Don’t know much beyond that (not a fan of beer) besides seeing his huge stash. Would also be neat to see you guys try family recipes from subscribers. Would be interesting to see recipes from subscribers in other areas.
In case no one else has said it, in America jam is a spread with mashed fruit, pectin and sugar and jelly is made from strained fruit juice, pectin and sugar, so it has a firmer texture
I have memories of having homemade maple candy that my grandparents made on their farm by tapping the maple trees in the fall....a giant round pan of it broken into chunks....back circa 1976-1980....
Rhode Island here (part of New England) we are hidden next to Connecticut and below Massachusetts. next time your in the states for the summer/spring time, come visit Newport, RI. You won’t be disappointed.
You two are absolutely delightful to watch! I am so glad I found your channel - thanks for bringing a smile to my face with your wit and positive energy. Much love from the US 🙂✌
Hi Kate & Alex! Loved this video!! I am American (native to Southern California) and I love seeing snacks from across the country that I have also never tried!! So weird to think we are each about the same distance from Maine!! 🤯
I noticed you were unsure of our terminology for jelly vs jam. At least in my area (southwest area), jelly is the fruit spread that is pretty much entirely smooth. Jam is also a fruit spread, but it still has some chunks and seeds and stuff; it’s thicker.
Aww, I'm so glad I found this video! My beloved Grampies was from Kittery, ME! Maine is such a gorgeous state. (Side note: My favorite salt water taffy is from York, ME at The Goldenrod. Molasses Peppermint is my favorite flavor.)
Awesome video! I wonder how the jam would taste on the fresh baked bread or maybe the bread is too savory? Good job to that subscriber for thinking outside the box, very clever.
I'm not sure if that would have tasted nice together as you could taste the beer a lot. However, on normal baked break I reckon that would be amazing! Yeah really great box isn't it! ☺️
I love watching you guys wether it is trying food from different places or doing the WTF challenges. It would be great if you done these more often with both of you.
So, as a thought, not all states sell everything, so I'm from NC and I've never heard of B&M before. But I do work at Walmart and I know for a fact that we sell Dukes mayo in southern stores but once you go to far north you can no longer buy it unless you order it online and pay for shipping to your home. so what you eat and where you eat (restaurants), and HOW you eat things differ, some times a lot, from one state to another. there is a major difference between jam and jelly in the US, but I'd prefer preserves, it has fruit chunks.
American maple vs. Canadian maple is subjective; same as Maine and Canadian lobsters. One New England treat not covered is the fluffernutter. Sliced, white sandwich bread with peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff as the filling. If you get a chance to try one of these, you will be pleasantly be surprised. Well done.
I’m from Florida and I’ve noticed that BlackBerry jelly is popular here. It is absolutely delicious! I have never had blueberry jelly, but I assume it is tasty as well.
I just got out of the hospital and of course the first videos I had to check out were yours. They got my slow heart doing a little happy dance. Lol. Part of my family is from the New England area (New Hampshire), so this was fun to watch. I've been to all of those States.
Another fun video. In America jam its contains fruit chunks where jelly is made from the fruit juices or strained before bottling. Both are yummy on toast but also waffles, fried dough, and ice cream!
I'm from Maine! Love seeing some local items for you guys to try! If you're ever in Maine, try a Red Hot Dog! Its skin is a reddish-pink and it snaps when you take a bite! They're a Maine favorite!
I'm commenting as I watch. That jam would be amazing inside chocolate fudge cupcakes. I have done the Polaner All Fruit blueberry jam in the cupcakes, and they were outstanding!
I’ve lived in Maine my whole life and it’s so awesome to see you guys doing this video. Maine doesn’t get a lot of attention typically but it’s beautiful. You guys should visit, after all we are “vacationland”
I’m from New England USA. Connecticut to be exact. I moved to Columbus, Ohio. So it’s nice to see stuff i grew up with 💕 Love your videos! (Also i vacationed in Maine as a kid. We would pick fresh blueberries outside of our cabin and use them in pancakes. The blueberries from Maine are special 😻)
I have know watched all of your American candy videos and you haven’t tried any of my favorite candies or treats. But I’m from the Midwest and most of yours are from the New England area. I just found you guys love the videos.
Living in Maine, this was very fun! The Brown Bread brought back great memories. My childhood Saturday nights were my grandfather's homemade beans and B&M Brown bread! Anytime you come to back to America, I'd be happy to guide you to some of the best of Maine...including a tour of Stephen King's Bangor (a.k.a. Derry from IT)!
I’ve played HQ! I just stopped playing because I’m horrible 😂 New subscriber here. Been binge watching these videos and I absolutely can’t stop. You guys are so funny & I love the sibling connection. 😊
Salt water taffy is the ultimate treat. And you're the best UA-cam channel out there. Been a subscriber for almost a year. And love each and every video. Btw Canadians like me and many others love you both. 🇨🇦💕
Was that maple sugar candy from Polly's Pancake Parlor? If so, it's one of the most famous breakfast spots in the state. Though we have better spots in southern New Hampshire IMO 😀
Yesss HQties!! I visited a couple of friends in England last month (I live in America) and they got me hooked on HQ! I can’t remember how far I’ve gotten, but I don’t think it’s too far 😂 You guys were sent some cool things! I live on the other side of the country so I haven’t seen a lot of those things before!
Good jam or marmelade has to be eaten with butter mares (hope the translater told it right to me !) and a good cup of coffee or tea ! The best way to start a day !
Talking beans. Baked beans in American are usually seasoned with spices in molasses and stuff. The beans that you guys eat are what Americans usually call pork and beans that have a small piece of pork fat in them but they're in the more tomato like sauce
I've had the Maine blueberry jam, maple syrup (on pancakes, it was out of this world), and cape cod chips. You have to **try old soaker root beer from Maine**, it's life-changing.
I am so honored that you guys to did a video of the goodies I’ve sent to you both. You nailed my name! 😃 I’m so glad you enjoyed the treats. Any time you visit Boston again I’ll be happy to give you a proper food tour, complete with real lobster. 😉

Yay this comment makes me happy! Thank you ☺️
You can make beer bread it’s easy as 1-2-3
1 can beer (12 oz)
2 Tlb sugar
3 Cup self rising flour
Mix bake 50-60 mins at 350
Thank you 😀
As a Boston girl who lived in the UK for 9 years, this video makes me SO happy!!! Love love love
Ah yay I'm so pleased to hear this 💕

Ah thank you so much! This comment means so much to me ♥️♥️
I am awaiting the series of Alex best beer snacks
hehe
This video makes me homesick for New England. Thanks for the great video.
❤️
I'm from Massachusetts but just recently moved an hour north into New Hampshire! New England is the best!
I loved New England!
American here. B & M bread in a can, very good steamed and with fresh butter. The other variety has raisins, making the bread more desert like.
Cracked pepper is quickly becoming a popular flavor here in the US with chips and crackers. Very fun box! Enjoyed it!
Sounds amazing! 😍 really enjoyed those chips!
Yes, I love cracked pepper potato chips - very popular indeed!
Salt and pepper is great on popcorn too.

The look you give him when he is spreading it to the corners....😂😂😂😂
😂
Video idea: ask "us" to comment family recipes and you try to make them here, Kate
Although, some ingredients may not be easy to find there...
That’s a fun idea!! I’d love to see that as a series.
Thats such a great idea!!! I would love that! Wacky recipes too!

@@ThisWithThem You have to warm the brown bread and eat it with hot dogs(Hebrew national) and the beans.
I’m from Maine so it’s really nice to see you guys trying things from New England!💕
I have literally been watching all ur videos throughout lockdown
Contrary to popular belief, salt water taffy does not contain salt water. The candy got it's name because it was, and still sometimes is, made near salt water (like on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey).
No way!! i see!! We wondered if that was why it was called that as we couldn't actually taste any salt water!
It is salted though
No we didn't think it tasted salty!
We only get it at the beach because that is where it’s the best. I don’t like other salt water

Potato candy is very popular and made in Maine. And yes, its made out of potatoes! It tastes similiar to a mounds bar.

Well done.
I would love to try a fluffernutter! I'm yet to try that!
also try with sliced bananas in it! That was one of my childhood favorites.
I’m from Florida and I’ve noticed that BlackBerry jelly is popular here. It is absolutely delicious! I have never had blueberry jelly, but I assume it is tasty as well.
Deanna Vaccaro blueberry jelly is rather sweet.
Mmm sounds delicious
I just got out of the hospital and of course the first videos I had to check out were yours. They got my slow heart doing a little happy dance. Lol. Part of my family is from the New England area (New Hampshire), so this was fun to watch. I've been to all of those States.
Ah no way!! Thank you for supporting us! I hope you are okay and get better soon ☺️😘
Another fun video. In America jam its contains fruit chunks where jelly is made from the fruit juices or strained before bottling. Both are yummy on toast but also waffles, fried dough, and ice cream!
Thank you Carolyn! Thank you for letting me know ☺️
Yay Boston represent!
😀❤️
I'm from Maine! Love seeing some local items for you guys to try! If you're ever in Maine, try a Red Hot Dog! Its skin is a reddish-pink and it snaps when you take a bite! They're a Maine favorite!
Nathanael Thomas Note the box had no Humpty Dumpty chips.
I'm commenting as I watch. That jam would be amazing inside chocolate fudge cupcakes. I have done the Polaner All Fruit blueberry jam in the cupcakes, and they were outstanding!
Yes!! That would be delicious.
I’ve lived in Maine my whole life and it’s so awesome to see you guys doing this video. Maine doesn’t get a lot of attention typically but it’s beautiful. You guys should visit, after all we are “vacationland”
Ah no way! I'm so pleased to hear that! We would love to visit!
These videos are my favorites on UA-cam! Have you ever gotten snacks and treats from the Midwestern parts of the US?
I'd love to send you guys some, if you haven't gotten any from the Midwest!!
Ah no way thats awesome! Bet that was great to watch and remember! Thank you very much! Oh wow, I bet they tasted amazing.
Veliccia - Same! Born in New England and ended up near Columbus, Ohio😊
❤️ Thats awesome!
Peach and blackberry jam are my favorites
Wow peach jam, i bet thats amazing
love all your videos ypu make smile all the time thank you
❤️❤️❤️
I have know watched all of your American candy videos and you haven’t tried any of my favorite candies or treats. But I’m from the Midwest and most of yours are from the New England area. I just found you guys love the videos.
I especially love this USA candy tasting guys! I love you so much! I need to send you Italian candies asap 😚
Yay thank you Samantha! This makes me so happy! That would be awesome 😍
My mom always made brown bread in a coffee can and we had it with baked beans. I grew up in New Hampshire in New England.
No way!!! Thats so cool
In America we have jelly, jam, & preserves. All different. You can use the jelly on pancakes or pb&j.
So pleased to hear you enjoyed watching and it brought back memories! That is very kind of you. thank you 😀
I love you both, so brilliant. Would love a cameo of dad. You we're both obviously well raised, nothing more to say but brilliant
I’ve played HQ! I just stopped playing because I’m horrible 😂 New subscriber here. Been binge watching these videos and I absolutely can’t stop. You guys are so funny & I love the sibling connection. 😊
When Alex said blueberry donuts, that's my end game. I love blueberry cake donuts and blueberry jam donuts. I'm a massive bread fan.
Would be amazing wouldn't they!
The brown bread is typically heated in the oven and served with butter.
NEW ENGLAND REPRESENT!!!❤ Sending love from Connecticut!
This was the best box! Excellent video and I enjoy how much you like everything!!
So good wasn't it! So well picked! Ah thank you so much
Salt water taffy is the ultimate treat. And you're the best UA-cam channel out there. Been a subscriber for almost a year. And love each and every video. Btw Canadians like me and many others love you both. 🇨🇦💕
Such a lovely comment to receive! Thank you so much for the love and support 💕
Was that maple sugar candy from Polly's Pancake Parlor? If so, it's one of the most famous breakfast spots in the state. Though we have better spots in southern New Hampshire IMO 😀
archaeofreak12 Parker's Maple Barn 💝
Yesss HQties!! I visited a couple of friends in England last month (I live in America) and they got me hooked on HQ! I can’t remember how far I’ve gotten, but I don’t think it’s too far 😂 You guys were sent some cool things! I live on the other side of the country so I haven’t seen a lot of those things before!
Hehe. Ah no way!! It's addictive isn't it haha.
What an amazing gift box! The local goodies and thought that went into it was lovely. I am so going to go and make some beer bread!
PS. SALT WATER TAFFY AND MAPLE CANDY!!! Ross hahahaha
The blueberry jam would be great on a fresh from the oven southern biscuit, buttermilk or not. Yummy
..... Myrtle Beach, SC has the best salt water taffy TYVM!!
Mmm
Good jam or marmelade has to be eaten with butter mares (hope the translater told it right to me !) and a good cup of coffee or tea ! The best way to start a day !
I live in Evening Shade, Arkansas. I believe that what you call Jam, we call Jelly. We spread it on toast and biscuits!
Talking beans. Baked beans in American are usually seasoned with spices in molasses and stuff. The beans that you guys eat are what Americans usually call pork and beans that have a small piece of pork fat in them but they're in the more tomato like sauce
Thank your explaining ☺️
I've had the Maine blueberry jam, maple syrup (on pancakes, it was out of this world), and cape cod chips. You have to **try old soaker root beer from Maine**, it's life-changing.
All delicious aren't they!! Mmm sounds interesting. I'll have to look out for that! Thank you
Jam in the U.S. has small pieces of fruit, jelly just has juice and preserves has whole or large pieces of fruit, marmelade is the same as the U.K.
Omg ur guys accents r the best I’m SOOOOO jealous
Ahh thank you Camdyn!
That bread looks amazing 😍
It really was 😋
Love that muddy water, Boston your my home! I love your reactions to US candy and snacks.
❤️
Even though I live in the U.S. I’ve never been to the New England area, so most of these were new to me! Now I’m hungry.
Ah no way! Bet that was nice to see new things you hadn’t seen ☺️ haha sorry for making you hungry 😆
The US loves you!❤
❤️❤️❤️
I am from Maine...cool to see you eat some of our local foods. Happy eating 🇺🇸
