Thank you! Zwave and home automation in general is a wasteland of glitchy hardware and dropped vendor support. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I can't calculate the hours of frustration you saved.
Thanks, just moved 2 zooz dimmer switches over from an old smartthings hub to a new one. Delete tap top button 3 times re add, way easier than the instructions online. Thanks
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!! I purchased 4 Enbrighten devices and could not get them to connect to Smartthings hub. A few did not have QR code, 1 QR sticker was damaged and 4th would not connect at all via QR scan UUUGGGHHH!! But then I found this video... The primary reason for buying these was to continue building my "smart" home life and for the marketed ease of wiring. I am all connected thanks again to You!!
Thanks! This is the best video on controlling, adding and deleting GE smart paddle switches to Smarthings I have seen out of the dozens viewed over the past 5 years.
2 Feb 2023. Dude, your advice worked like a charm ! 1. I did the 3 taps top/bottom and the light blinked device reset. 2 Tapped top padded to get switch discovered ! THANK YOU !
Thank you so much! I was about ready to bust a blood vessel as I could not connect switches that were previously connected to Wink until I saw your demonstration, which refreshed my memory. They now work with SmartThings! After more than 2 1/2 weeks of Wink being down (and this has happened multiple times over the last four years, I done with them. Again, THANK YOU!
Hey, I appreciate that! I was tired of digging through the paperwork and videos to find these procedures myself. That is what made me want to make this video. Three years from now, when yet another switch fails, I will need to watch it again myself! I wish you the best!
I've been running a smart home with switches from numerous manufacturers. I thought I knew everything I needed to know, but I definitely learn some things from this video. Great no-non-sense instructional video!
Thank you!!! I have no idea what happened with my Hub but I had to reconnect all of my devices and the only one that was difficult was the GE Z-Wave Switch. I struggled with it until I watched this video - it took me a few tries to get the timing right but finally got it excluded and re-added! Your instructions were great!
Unfortunately these didn't work for me using Enbrighten dimmer switches. Extremely informational video which led me to the discovery of what would work for me. Thank you! What did work was holding down the off button (lower paddle) until the light became solid, and then pressing the down button 3 times. This causes the light to rapidly blink like in the video. Hope it helps someone!
This was so helpful. My husband and I bought a house and inherited a glitchy system with no manuals left behind. Light switches had been unresponsive, but this helped us get them back in working order!
I was about to replace the switch with an off brand I also have that had no issues connecting. You're explanation of resetting and re-connecting was spot on, thank you.
Because of you, I was finally able to take the electrical tape off of my bedroom LEDs! I am getting ready to migrate from wink to SM, and due to the grand outage, I can't exclude through the wink app. I will now be able to factory reset all my switches with confidence. Thank you.
Thank you for this video, I picked up a Jasco 39351 Dimmer switch, it could not be seen with my SmartThings hub. I tried the 3 taps top, 3 taps bottom to reset and then it added perfectly within seconds.
Thanks for this video - the printed instructions were not at all clear - the fast 3 click works - I wasted so much time trying to reset before I found your video! Thanks again!
It worked, thanks, I have the newer one. I was able to tell because it has the QR Code like you showed. I did both, pulled the little tab out and back in and pressed the up 3 then down 3. I also used the QR Code when setting up Smartthings. 👍
Installing the switches is a piece of cake, getting them to connect was a piece of cake when I first bought the SmartThings hub. 4 years later it's a pain. After cussing at the switch for 2 hours (wife left the room) I found your explanation and had them both connected in 5 minutes. BIG thankyou Now the question is: The dimmer switches let you turn off the blue indicator light set up (GE) but the fan control switch does not. They are actually incredibly bright at night. Any ideas how to turn it off? Right now I have 3 layers of my wifes white fingernail polish on the fan control's little blue light. lol
You are welcome! Not sure about the fan control switch, but you might try identifying it as a standard "relay" switch (on/off vs dim) and see if you can control the LED that way. I wish you the best!
I know this is old, but I have an older switch that wouldn't reset with the 10 buttons. In SmartThings I went to Hub->Z-Wave Utilities->Z-Wave exclusion. When the mode was entered, I simply clicked the top button on the switch and it reset itself. Was easy to re-pair from there.
Just had to hard reset my SmartThings hub and it’s reminding me how much a pain in the _ss getting these switches to get recognized. Is a different hub easier?
Good explanation, but I still don't know how to paired them-one switch has load others not, how make them work between (like3 way,4 way) with out using phone?
For 3-way and 4-way switch arrangements, you don't pair the "add on auxiliary switch" (slave switch). It just works in conjunction with the master switch, which must be connected to your load line. This switch is not technically part of the z-wave system. You will never pair it or make it discoverable to SmartThings. It will not extend your z-wave wireless signal. It just sends a signal to the master switch to turn on or off the lights manually.
@@ApacheRanch Thank You for quick respond- My problem is create 3 way switch with out traveler, both ends have power, and using battery for slave switch is not option.
Like all the other comments this video is by far the clearest and easiest explanation of resetting and re-adding switches to Smart Things! (I completely forgot the exclusion process since it's been so long and this video totally helped me!) Thank you so much! Liked and subscribed!
@@maggieq1924 I used Vera for around 9 years. I found it is much easier to work with than the Aeotech Smart things. I have several older z wave switches that Smart Things doesn't like. And I have no way of changing parameters to turn off the blue led light now. I also can't use my schlage door and window sensors. ST installs them but they report as open regardless of whether they are open or not. But if you have zwave plus hardware, ST works like a charm
Could be dead. Steady light or fast flashing light usually means it’s dead. Easy fix: call Jasco at (800) 654-8483 and let them know it is steady blue light. They will likely mail you a new one with any cost to you.
My switch suddenly stopped working. I tried all the steps you outlined but still nothing. The LED blinks but thats all. The switch is about 5 years old. Looks like it does not even work in the manual mode. Any other recommendations. Perhaps a new switch what brand and model?
These switches from the earlier generations (2015-2017) tend to die after about 3-5 years and become unresponsive like you described. Best bet is to call Jasco (manufacturer) and ask if they will send you a replacement.
I just bought a house not long ago and all I have that I know of is one switch at the front door. I don’t see any other apparatus I’m assuming that is a smart switch what app can I put on my phone so I can connect to it, it says z-wave.
I have the same problem with the 4005. He mentions in the video that they may never pair again. Only options are to get ahold of ge support or throw it away and get the newer one
I agree with @AlexmullinsTV. I would suggest calling Jasco at their 800 number. Consumer Care hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 8:00pm (CST). Toll Free: (800) 654-8483. If you explain to the representative your issue, they will likely send you a replacement.
I purchased more than 20 smart switched and outlets made by Jasco around 2017 during my renovation. By today all of them failed. One by one (blinking and clicking). And no help or even remorse from the customer service. I hate Jasco with all my heart. Will never buy any product made by Jasco or GE (parent company). Keep away from Jasco and GE.
Generally speaking stay away from this garbage. None of my equipment gave me so much hard time as these GE lights. I had 5 switches, and all of them after 3 years within 1 month broke. I felt like there was a timer to kill switches in 3 years.

Yeah it's crazy that it works like that. Glad it helped!

I notice that there is a half second delay when turning on and off. Is there a way to fix the delay to make it instant?
Not that I am aware of. All my smart switches have that same short delay. Thanks for your comment.
