New show idea. Rachel takes a guests pet deck that they love but isn’t doing very well and, with a budget given by the guest, makes suggested changes to make the deck play better. Show name - Rachel Weeks: The Pet Deck Vet!
Hi Command Zone, I just wanted to thank you for the absolutely amazing content you provide. I have been watching for 4 years and I love every video. You are the ones who got me addicted to Commander. Love from Germany ❤🎉
When I was looking at this deck and deciding on builds, I got three main vibes: Rakdos spellslinger (personal preference, don't judge), Rakdos aristocrats, and Death by a thousand triggers. I've decided on the latter. Current card options for me include, but aren't restricted to: Painful Quandary Revenge of Ravens Underworld Dreams Ankh of Mishra Cemetery Gatekeeper Pestilence Crypt Rats Sulfuric Vortex Rug of Smothering Stuffy Doll
Brash Taunter that comes with the deck is better than Stuffy Doll IMO because w/ the Doll you have to choose one opponent and you don’t get to choose another after they’re dead.
No exaggeration, when Rachel joined the Command Zone it got waaay better. Not that it was bad before, but she brings a great energy to the show for sure
One thing to remember with this deck, there are lots of effects here that cause loss of life that won’t trigger damage doublers. Just a something to keep in mind.
Good call. I love Wound Reflections for this exact reason since it covers life lost through any method. High mana cost, but can close games FAST if people have no answers.
Love a precon upgrade! (Especially for a relatively new player trying to understand all the options, deck-building, etc. it helps to hear your thought process and have some guidelines before experimenting on my own!) Keep up the great work! 🎉
There are def. enough sources of damage on your turn (e.g. also combat damage from your massive commander counts) - I will for sure keep Rakdos, Lord of Riots
@@MalteLewandowski I've only played the deck a few times but I find that I do 90% of the damage on my opponents turns. Unless they are tapped out or have no creatures in play I find myself passing through combat because A) Many of the creatures in this deck are weenies you don't want dying and B) The commander is often your best blocker against more stompy decks. Now if you switch commanders to the Lord of Pain and focus on dropping big spells to trigger his ability? That's a deck Rakdos fits very well into.
A fun card I'd definitely add is fling. Didn't look at the deck list so idk if it's already in the deck or not, but super fun card for decks like this where your commander gets obscenely large relatively quickly, I run it in korvold and my own ob nixilis deck
Some even went from $2.50 to $25…gotta love that. It’s so stupid that random cheap cards just shoot up out of nowhere and then you can’t reasonably afford them. Not likely even because of people wanting to play them buying them, but scalpers who realize they’re going to be in demand so they buy a crap ton for cheap and then resell. People suck.
And in that rather small fraction of games where you draw both, that might be a problem - unless you play smart and sandbag one until the other gets removed.
Having a single card that "nonbos" with a single other card is totally fine if they're both strong effects for your commander. If you draw 20 cards throughout the game, there is a
33:54 the other day I learned that Solphim doubles fight spells too, so if someone playing green or red tries to throw a 10/10 or something at Solphim to kill him before you get his indestructible online, Solphim will kill that 10/10 because that is noncombat damage
Solphim doubles non-combat damage from sources you control. That would include direct damage even if it occurs during the combat phase or damage from creatures fighting each other outside of the combat damage step (including Solphim). Many ‘fight’ spells though just have the creature deal their damage to a target rather than both creatures dealing damage to each other.
Cuts braids, then cuts morbid opportunist. Flailing about that the deck doesnt have sac outlet or delirium turn-on, to even draw off morbid oppo.... You gotta be kidding me 😂😂😂
@@xStarborn 1 sac on your end step for 1 draw each rotation is too slow. It would take up to 4 turns to get delirium and that's IF nobody used removal on either card lol. Good cuts imo.
I had this same thought, but now I am thinking of doing the opposite. My Nekusar deck was just group slug anyway (no wheels or infect, per my own preference). This deck seems like it might just be a more efficient way to do the things I already loved about playing Nekusar. Still debating, but I love seeing that I am not the only one who considered my favorite wizard when they saw this.
Found this deck yesterday as of writing. It seems pretty solid. Definitely an archenemy deck. Even if we’re not playing Archenemy, you’d be the #1 target at the table of everyone’s spells.
What do you all think about adding Pestilence. That's a great trigger for the Commander, board wipe, and deal damage to all players. It's also a good threat/leverage card of "don't do it..."
A few notes: 1.: Insurrection and Hideous Taskmaster are incredible high end of the manacurve haymakers, especially in group slug where you wither down the life of each player. 2.: Toxic deluge and other -x/-x wipes are powerful with a high toughness commander, potentionally letting him be the sole survivor. 3.: Black has a few 1 mana instants tha revive a dying creature like Malakir Rebirth (3 or 4 in total). Very powerful protection pieces. Valgavoth will be target No1 4:: No mercy. Good card here. Also more goad effects. People will attack you a lot.
For the protection spells, there are actually a small handful of 1-mana black spells that give indestructible or regenerate rather than immediately returning from the graveyard. I think those are better suited for the deck, as then you don't lose the accumulated +1/+1 counters on Valgavoth
@@sensei470 Yeah, there are four that I'm aware of: Armor of Shadows, Boon of Erebos, Professor's Warning, and Unnatural Endurance. There are a couple 2 mana ones too, in particular Oblivion's Hunger since it draws a card if the target has a +1/+1 counter, but I think four 1 mana spells should be enough in the way of protection. Red also has a lot of redirect spells which help against targeted removal too (and black has one in Imp's Mischief)
@@Kyronex0 Nice, thanks! Id like to focus on the one mana ones. Interaction needs to be especially cheap in my book. Yea red has like bolt bend which is perfect with a 4 power commander and obviously defelecting swat. Tibalts trickery might still be good even if its 2 mana, since it can answer win cons as well. i think i want to run like 9 protection spells. Why 9? By turn 4 ive drawn 11 cards. If i multiply it by 9 i have 99, so on average ive drawn 1 protection spell by then. Also i wanna hear my opponents say "aww you have another one of those 1 mana spells" :D
I'm putting together a deck based around playing Master of Cruelties and while selecting cards that will pop MoC out of a hole to just instantly take someone down to 1 hp I realised how many good cheap black spells there are to save a creature about to die. :D They won't know what struck them, and if they try to remove it I'll just bring it right back - with haste.
i see adding Ob Nixilis, I am not adding him into my deck since I have cards that double the amount of damage pings do to really get opponents life down faster. i also figured since its not REALLY a sac deck, I removed Mayhem Devil. i like the rest you guys did. Although I will say personally I think Fiery Emancipation works great in this deck.
I feel like there is going to be a LOT of newer players who won’t understand the power of this commander and will get this deck and get upset when everyone is ganging up on them. It feels a lot like yuriko where if you let the deck do its thing it’ll quickly stomp you into the ground so you’re probably playing archenemy out of the gate against more seasoned players.
I feel like that's a lesson every commander player has to learn at some point - the first couple of times you become a big threat, or have some annoying effect that affects everyone else, and the table turns on you
chandra is amazing since you guarantee yourself the set up for valgavoth for the rest of the game. cant be countered and you can hold priority once she resolves to activate her emblem ability which cant be interacted with.
Love the deck. I have not won a game with it yet. Always get targeted and ganged on once my commander starts growing. Good point on not bringing your commander out too soon. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to adding some upgrades.
Can Wizards please do a secret lair The Thing? This movie fits perfectly for cards using cardtypes like shapeshifter, beast, horror, vehicle (snowcat) and techniques like mutate, infect, counter. Also they can make snow covered lands. I would love to see a MacGready as a Commander...
So happy that we get this version of Valgavoth. I've been meaning to rebuild a Rakdos Demons deck for over 2 years now and the wait will almost be over.
With most precons, the backup commander usually gets cut or placed in another deck, at least these two together seem to fit. Only other ones i can remember synergizing well were Fractal Bloom and Adrix-Nev
"And that's when I noticed that Card Kingdom was this 10 stories tall crustacean from the paleolithic era, and I said: 'Goddammit Loch Ness Monster! I aint giving you no 3,50 for a pair of Swiftfoot Boots!'" The only explanation for the price of every card in the upgrade being 3,50.
I was playing Enchanter’s Bane while waiting for upgrades, but I’ve actually been super pleased with how it plays. It’s a pretty bad burn spell, dealing usually three each turn. It’s a bad removal spell, never killing the thing that Needs To Die. However, at two mana it’s actually good enough at either job that I’m always happy to stick it on the field. TLDR: give enchanter’s bane a shot, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
A card I would add simply because it is a pet card of mine is Underworld Dreams. 3 Black mana for an enchantment that hits opponents when they draw. It comes in before the commander and gets the engine going. Yes it’s hard to cast but man. I just love the card.
I have a suite of cards already to go for this deck. Polluted Bonds seemed like a no brainer. Also, I've got 2 Razorkin Needleheads, which, again, no brainer. (Of course only one may stand, but still). I think I haven't seen any mono-red Monarch cards, so glad to know that exists. I was thinking of also doing a Howling Mine. To go with all the self harm on draw. Valgavoth isn't Nekusar, but I feel like they're pretty good friends. Anyway, I feel like The Dominus doesn't play very well with Ob Nixilus...
Tainted strike would be a spicy add since valgevoth will be an 11/11 by turn six and turning a 2 turn clock into an instant kill is reach people may not account for
I love hearing your thoughts and it was $75 before this video even came out so I'm wondering if the patrons shot the price up before it was released to the public. Sadly, on the deck building part, I'm not gonna add most of those since my playgroup likely will struggle against how it is already. I'm probably gonna drop a few of those though cuz I do have an ob nixilis deck and wanna keep both at least for a little while. I'm gonna aim for weaker adds overall when I do this initial upgrade but I will remove the entire aristocrat strat in it.
@@JordanPridgen Oh, okay. Kinda a joke cuz idk if your patrons would have all that pull on prices. I did luckily get it for a lot cheaper from a local store pre-order so I'm happy about that
I started a new game with one of my friend. We watch those videos and take a shot each time someone says "FOR SURE" .... Haven't been able to finish an episode in the last 8 months hahah :P Jokes apart, nice upgrade video! :P
I think Séance Board is here to let us cast our commander if he's is killed, with the commander tax, its niche, but I think it works better than we think, even for sorcery, instant, spirits
I had 55 mana on my seanceboard last night playing a few creature token decks. It helps to recast your commander as many times as you want if he keeps getting targeted.
This precon felt incredibly strong even without upgrades. Post upgrade, Solphim feels like a big risk vs blue players due to bounce effects after you activate his ability. Ojer Axonil is probably better for the deck theme, Razorkin Needlehead (worthy upgrade) doing 4 dmg a ping is game ending. However, neither of them work with Ob Nixillus, Captive Kingpin.
One of the auto-includes that should be in the deck is manabarbs! Very peculiar that it was not recommended in the video. It's almost a must-have for this deck.
It was mentioned, and deemed worse than alternatives because you damage yourself as well. The key is opponents damaging themselves (only), you'll already struggle with staying alive once everyone realises you're the one causing them grief :)
@@gronizherz3603 then a timely place mana barbs is how you win that predicament, not just blindly casting to kill yourself. Still an auto-include for group slug synergy.
I just got the deck. I'm toying with the idea of doing a demon kindred thing with like Pestilence Demon and leaving in Rakdos. I dunno if it's worth it, but it could be cool
Also, don't forget that Valgavoth himself can be a win condition, since he can become a 7/7 flier with Ward after just one turn cycle after he comes down (provided you've got something like Fate Unraveler)
I’m building this deck with adding sheoldred the apocalypse she is a All Start killer, also mana barbs, painful quandary, Underworld Dreams, Razorkin Needlehead, ob nixilis reignited and Peer into the abyss😈🖤❤️👍🏼👍🏼💯
To be fair about enchanter's bane, I think its becoming more useful. Bloomburrow had an enchantement deck and duskmorn has all sorts of enchantments from glimmers to rooms.
it makes sense roiling vortex wasn't base, the commander decks are designed with playing against the other 3 in mind and having a card that hard screws over one or two decks just wouldn't be too fun

Podcast episodes don't come out early for Patrons, I think people were just checking the prices for themselves sadly.
@@JordanPridgen Oh, okay. Kinda a joke cuz idk if your patrons would have all that pull on prices. I did luckily get it for a lot cheaper from a local store pre-order so I'm happy about that
You can get it for 50 if you buy it from a retailer. Don’t buy it from tcg or card kingdom
@@nutellakinesis I know. I got it for $45
I started a new game with one of my friend. We watch those videos and take a shot each time someone says "FOR SURE" .... Haven't been able to finish an episode in the last 8 months hahah :P
Jokes apart, nice upgrade video! :P
I think Séance Board is here to let us cast our commander if he's is killed, with the commander tax, its niche, but I think it works better than we think, even for sorcery, instant, spirits
i love that sadistic shellgame can basicly even the odds if one of the players phases out of a boardwipe 😅
For 5 mana, you may as well just cast a follow up board wipe. It would be far more effective.
Bought 3 copper tablets on deck reveal. Thankfully they’ll now skyrocket, cheers
Similar to roiling vortex, screaming nemesis is a duskmourn card that removes opponents lifegain permanently.
Add all those red cards maybe add some mountains too! ❤❤❤
The conjuring series is my favorite series of movies to watch. So the new annebelle card is definitely being built
Sheoldred, the apocalypse & valgavoth terror eater
Surprised polluted bonds wasn't considered for the upgrade... probably too mean?
It's a little high mana cost but I like it! No such THING as too mean!
Don’t feel bad for playing it. Its a card you really need to play on curve to get meaningful value, but when you do, it can be a game changer.
Nice additions. This is going to be my first group slug deck. Can I suggest that pyrohemia and pestilence are working AMAZINGLY well in this deck?
Razorkin Needlehead was MADE FOR THIS DECK
Sheoldred found some new friends once again
Just sucks she's like a 70 dollar card.
@Did_No_Wrong Commander is casual and proxies are usually allowed :)
@@Did_No_Wrong I got you big dawg: Proxy King
@@YGOFosho that is true, but sometimes you run into "those players." The guys that take it a bit too seriously even if it's a proxy.
@@Did_No_Wrong You're not wrong, I hate those guys haha
This precon is preordering at 75.00 from Card Kingdom.
Order it from somewhere else. It is 45-50 in many places
I haven't seen any that are not under 70$@@nutellakinesis
Bought it for 60$
Which of the command zone writers speculated on copper tablet before submitting the script? xD
"My elder deck is comming" I love this woman
Looking forward to this! And the miracle one soon hopefully 😊
I really like rug of smothering for the deck
I just got the deck. I'm toying with the idea of doing a demon kindred thing with like Pestilence Demon and leaving in Rakdos. I dunno if it's worth it, but it could be cool
I paid a fair deal less than the reprint value of the deck for all 4 decks. Pretty happy about that
Two more great additions for this deck: sulfuric Vortex and Karazikar
I was forgotten when playing this deck and still won lol
I cant wait for my pre order of this deck to come
Barbeflare Goblin would be great in a convoke deck
Good additions, i only miss Zo-zu the punisher, 3 mana and punish all the ramp decks that can stop you with big spells early
Definitely adding great unclean one to this deck
Its rare that we get a precon where both the commanders are solid for the deck straight out the box.
it makes sense roiling vortex wasn't base, the commander decks are designed with playing against the other 3 in mind and having a card that hard screws over one or two decks just wouldn't be too fun
Lord of the pain in a rowan deck can be cool too :)
Just because i love the card, a “Delina, Wild Mage” would be kinda neato in here
How about grievous wound? Losing half their life for a 1 tic seems nasty
I counter your removal of Rakdos, LOR to replace it with my foil version from Return to Ravnica...because I'm dumb. 8)
Add:
Roiling Vortex
Forsaken Wastes
Chandra, awakened Inferno
Ob Nixilis, captive Kingpin
Solphim, Mayhem Dominus
Chandra's Ignition
Tibalts Trickery
Swiftfoot Boots
Emberwilde Captain
Disrupt Decorum
Everlasting torment is a good card to add
You did an episode on how to play 'group hug', now i wish to see an episode on how to play 'group slug'
Shame a ton of these cards already spiked way way up Ob Nix is up to like $20
The Command Zone, nice work, keep the videos coming
It amazes me how this deck is valued at $122 but preorder is $80 and yet Miracle Worker is valued at $128 but preorder for $48. Proxy time!
