Oh wow it's weird seeing this pinned and hearted after randomly seeing this video again. I was really new to Touhou at the time and have warmed up to Junko a lot since then, although I still think her non spells and especially her extra stage (why is she even in the extra stage to reuse 2 nons and dump 2 lame spellcards?) could have been done better. Replace all nons with something more fun to dodge and cut her from the extra stage entirely and she actually isn't that bad anymore.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Junko + Koishi = Okina. Makes even more sense since one is an ex boss and one is a final boss and she is both. Amazing vid as always and keep up the good work :)

Okina's first nonspell actually builds up along with the intro of her theme, did you guys notice that? Either way, I used to hate the fact she had to be an EX boss, as well as final, but what do you know, I started loving her EX fight since then. Things really do change with time.
It's been confirmed recently that she's also the "Patron God of the Impaired." She showed up in a wheelchair, as ZUN originally wanted her to do in her Stage 6 boss appearance but didn't out of fear of backlash, because Japan treats disabled people waaaaay worse than the West does, and also because since he isn't disabled he didn't want to accidentally misrepresent disabled folk.

A bit late to ask, but do you think it would be possible to go back to your old videos and reimplement the commentary? When youtube removed annotations, all of the helpful commentary disappeared from your older videos. I believe youtube has a new system of end screens/cards to replace them, so could you possibly redo the commentary with those, if possible?
YoshiQuest I thought YT kept annotations on old vids for posterity's sake. Well, I'm still reeling from Hurricane Maria (75+ days without electricity! USA! USA!) so I'm limited on what I can do for now. I'll see how feasible this all is later on.

I don't know if you figured the part starting at 3:05 yet, but I wanna share my trusted strategy. It's by no means a must-bomb part. It's actually really easy once you get it down. Start at the bottom or the top of the screen. As the enemies spawn, focus on shooting away at least one of them. That will create an opening for you to rush into the very center of the screen. Stay there and shoot away at the enemies rotating around you, until their damaku ring starts closing in on you. That's when you use a release and back away safely to the bottom or the top of the screen again. Shoot away a few more enemies as they fly away and avoid the remaining danmaku waves that shouldn't be anything too hard to deal with by now. Overall though, your run was magnificent! I definitely learned new tactics. I have beaten Okina with both Reimu and Marisa, but both times I ended up with 0-1 lives left because I suck at surviving and I always forget to bomb... >:/

Good to see you back with new commentary! It's how I got into playing more Touhou after all. It looks like you haven't been using releases very much. They're somewhat broken in the main game but in the Extra stage it makes the ending yin yang orbs easy. If you stay in the middle, release when the bullets are close. When the orbs come back, release again. My personal favorite setup.
About "Okina is the Hakurei God" theory. Okina Matara is based on the Matarajin, the buddhist god. I don't belive, that the BUDDHIST god can be the god of the SHINTO shrine.
Well, I mean, Matarajin used to be conflated with the Shinto deity Okuninushi, Buddhist name "Daikokuten," which happens to be the deity that the Eientei Rabbits worship (probably because Okuninushi's the deity who saved the White Hare of Inaba)... So, you know, the situation is a bit more complicated than just Buddhism =/= Shintosim... that said, no, I don't think Okina is the God of the Hakurei Shrine...

My strategy for this stage is to use season release at key points in the stage to trivialise it, and at points where you absorb so much that your season points get mostly refunded. I'm not a great Touhou player, but this is what worked for me. 1. For each wave of enemies at 0:40, one season release at the spawn location will kill them all without any of them firing a shot, refunding your points, and getting you tons of score, way more than you would get by the normal method. 2. At the end of Mai and Satono's second spell, instead of the bomb you use. Purely to survive the last seconds to get the last bit of damage off safely. (Applicable for rushing with Reimu's homing shots) 3. For the waves of enemies at 3:04, just stay in the middle, wait for the bullets to come to you and use a release just as they get close enough. You get a lot of PIV and you only then have to move upward to dodge the enemies as they move inward, and return to the middle for the next wave. I never see anyone do this! You don't have to dodge any of the bullets in this part, it's very easy. 4. The spell at 4:54 is trivialised by sitting on Okina's head and using a release every time the green bullets converge on your location. You get tons of PIV doing this, which this early on could still make the difference between an extra extend. 5. The spell at 8:02 is trivialised by following above Okina to the left side of the screen. Stay on the left as she moves back, move downward into the left corner and season release to remove the bullets on the bottom of the screen. Just hang there until Okina comes back. This way you only have to dodge the very easily avoidable bullets from the top and not the bottom ones.
Something I like is the background of this stage. Now, trippy backgrounds for ex stages are nothing new (and honestly, in this game, stage 5's was probably "trippier") But here, you get to see glimpses of places _all across Gensokyo_ . Giving a good foreshadowing that this is not your usual 2hu you are dealing with. That you are dealing with someone whose scope and presence is wide and powerful. (Shame the game difficulty didn't bear this out, but *shrug* )
Especially the clockwise pattern. You will start having PTSD when using Marisa as you can't catch the spellcard (time out). And the lass spellcard just force you to die in order to adjust a straight position both front and back Okina draw closer and will became even harder to dodge her attack
Protip: if you position yourself just right above a boss character you can hit them with all of your shots, including your non-homing forward shots. Get a feel for it in spell practice.
My own strategy for Danmaku Dupion: you need a few releases for it to work. Stay in the bottom middle of the screen and release when the green bullets are about to hit you. Makes it so you don't even have to move, and all the yellow bullets have a very low chance of hitting you.
TIP FOR KYOGEN: If you manage to get above okina befor she starts shooting, and stay there until the red orb bullets target you, you can beat her before the counter clockwise part 😊
I have more troubles with narumi than I have with okina (stage 6.) rating the bosses from "best waifu to worst waifu", aunn>knife wife>eternity>mai>okina>satono>narumi the orbs at 3:20 dont hit the center of the screen until after they're set up, you can use two releases per wave and get 1.75 back without having to dodge. I can't beat okina (extra) yet but I've certainly gotten better, last time I tried to do extra was IN and I wiped before getting to mokou
Thanks for the vid! As for Matara being the Hakurei god, unfortunately this is debunked in Reimu's scenario. The whole story is about Matara trying to find a new sidekick, but she disqualifies Reimu for the fact that she is the Hakurei Maiden (which, well makes sense as it would be basically stealing her from the Hakurei god and would most likely turn into a godly fight). Then again, the whole sidekick thing might just be an excuse for Matara trying to make friends so who knows?

Only reason I'm not discounting the possibility is because, with the exceptions of oni, youkai are not known to be reliable narrators and we have gods like Suwako and Kanako doing everything they can to be untruthful and not forthcoming with their shenanigans.

You should beat Okina with other characters. Reimu is the easy mode of Okina Extra sadly this time around, and having tips + comments on characters that don't have Godly-OP-Aim-Bullets for this Extra would be nice x3 I wanna beat her with Aya just prove to myself I can beat her without the homing .-. Not Insulting your talents promise ! Without you I would have never been able to beat extra bosses >3< Beated Ran, Mokou and Suwako thanks to your videos and started tackling Mamisou and Okina (not touching Reimu for this one)
A tip for the midboss : you can "shotgun" the two first spells by using a release while you're very close to either of the servants. If you do so, you will clear the spells without dodging anything. It works with any character, even Cirno (who has an extremely powerful shot at point blank).
For the laser fairies coming from the bottom of the screen : you can micrododge everything at the top while using your release to get a huuuge amount of points. You'll probably need to bomb when the fairies get too close but it's worth it :)
Right before Okina, when those 2 "flocks" of orbs come, put yourself in the center and use release twice One to clear the bullets and the other to kill the orbs, repeat for the next round of orbs

The reason i didnt enjoy the hecatia duel its because you continuously spam the same "determination" joke from undertale, dont take me wrong i played and enjoyed undertale (undine battle its my fav) but there is more than determination in that game. And i always put the comments ON because i like your sense of humor (except in hecatia explained above) and your strategy explained, i normally fights extras alone but when i cant i watch your videos to learn how to beat them. I hope see a future upload. PD: I beat Okina with Cirno and i can say okina is the easiest extra of the saga.

As for the Hecatia video, don't get me wrong, I like Undertales and I know there's more to the game than that. Hell, the little snippets about determination that appear everytime you save (which is what I was referencing more than the determination itself) are not even my favorite quotes in the game. But I'm a sucker for running gags and I liked that one from Undertales. If you pay attention there are multiple videos where I pick a joke and use it over and over with different variation, (Raiko's "puns" and Lilith's "Spiritia's Holy Quest" comments in RKS come to mind ). Guess the UT one simply didn't click with you. And that's OK.

You mean subtitles instead of the annotations thingy on the right side? If so, not really. Even if we ignore the flair doing the annotations add, the amount of information I tend to add into them would be bothersome to read as subtitles. Also, I can have multiple annotations in multiple places (mainly one running for the entirety of a spellcard with the translated name) that I couldn't have with subtitles. I do expect people to pause the video and read those if they are interested. They are not meant to work as voice commentaries. They are meant to provide a more throughout insight (as well as some humor) than I (as a non-native english speaker) could ever hope to achieve with spoken commentaries. And if people don't like them, they can either go and watch the comment-less video I also uploaded or just find another youtuber closer to their taste.

4. The spell at 4:54 is trivialised by sitting on Okina's head and using a release every time the green bullets converge on your location. You get tons of PIV doing this, which this early on could still make the difference between an extra extend.
5. The spell at 8:02 is trivialised by following above Okina to the left side of the screen. Stay on the left as she moves back, move downward into the left corner and season release to remove the bullets on the bottom of the screen. Just hang there until Okina comes back. This way you only have to dodge the very easily avoidable bullets from the top and not the bottom ones.

That second set of yin-yang orbs at 3:00: Just move into the middle, drop a season release, and you'll eat most of the bullets. Easy as pie.
At the rearface's dark sarugaku, you can bomb or release to be able to hurt the boss! :)

Something I like is the background of this stage.
Now, trippy backgrounds for ex stages are nothing new (and honestly, in this game, stage 5's was probably "trippier")
But here, you get to see glimpses of places _all across Gensokyo_ . Giving a good foreshadowing that this is not your usual 2hu you are dealing with. That you are dealing with someone whose scope and presence is wide and powerful.
(Shame the game difficulty didn't bear this out, but *shrug* )

You can cheese the yin yang orb sections by standing in the middle and releasing as they spawn.
Protip: if you position yourself just right above a boss character you can hit them with all of your shots, including your non-homing forward shots.
Get a feel for it in spell practice.
My own strategy for Danmaku Dupion:
you need a few releases for it to work.
Stay in the bottom middle of the screen and release when the green bullets are about to hit you. Makes it so you don't even have to move, and all the yellow bullets have a very low chance of hitting you.
TIP FOR KYOGEN: If you manage to get above okina befor she starts shooting, and stay there until the red orb bullets target you, you can beat her before the counter clockwise part 😊

the orbs at 3:20 dont hit the center of the screen until after they're set up, you can use two releases per wave and get 1.75 back without having to dodge.
I can't beat okina (extra) yet but I've certainly gotten better, last time I tried to do extra was IN and I wiped before getting to mokou

Thanks for the vid! As for Matara being the Hakurei god, unfortunately this is debunked in Reimu's scenario. The whole story is about Matara trying to find a new sidekick, but she disqualifies Reimu for the fact that she is the Hakurei Maiden (which, well makes sense as it would be basically stealing her from the Hakurei god and would most likely turn into a godly fight). Then again, the whole sidekick thing might just be an excuse for Matara trying to make friends so who knows?

Not Insulting your talents promise ! Without you I would have never been able to beat extra bosses >3< Beated Ran, Mokou and Suwako thanks to your videos and started tackling Mamisou and Okina (not touching Reimu for this one)

A tip for the midboss : you can "shotgun" the two first spells by using a release while you're very close to either of the servants. If you do so, you will clear the spells without dodging anything. It works with any character, even Cirno (who has an extremely powerful shot at point blank).
For the laser fairies coming from the bottom of the screen : you can micrododge everything at the top while using your release to get a huuuge amount of points. You'll probably need to bomb when the fairies get too close but it's worth it :)
Right before Okina, when those 2 "flocks" of orbs come, put yourself in the center and use release twice
One to clear the bullets and the other to kill the orbs, repeat for the next round of orbs
I don't know if this is intendet, but you can shoot that survival spell down, if you use a release when the laser hits you.

The reason i didnt enjoy the hecatia duel its because you continuously spam the same "determination" joke from undertale, dont take me wrong i played and enjoyed undertale (undine battle its my fav) but there is more than determination in that game.
And i always put the comments ON because i like your sense of humor (except in hecatia explained above) and your strategy explained, i normally fights extras alone but when i cant i watch your videos to learn how to beat them. I hope see a future upload.
PD: I beat Okina with Cirno and i can say okina is the easiest extra of the saga.

As for the Hecatia video, don't get me wrong, I like Undertales and I know there's more to the game than that. Hell, the little snippets about determination that appear everytime you save (which is what I was referencing more than the determination itself) are not even my favorite quotes in the game. But I'm a sucker for running gags and I liked that one from Undertales.
If you pay attention there are multiple videos where I pick a joke and use it over and over with different variation, (Raiko's "puns" and Lilith's "Spiritia's Holy Quest" comments in RKS come to mind ). Guess the UT one simply didn't click with you. And that's OK.

If so, not really. Even if we ignore the flair doing the annotations add, the amount of information I tend to add into them would be bothersome to read as subtitles. Also, I can have multiple annotations in multiple places (mainly one running for the entirety of a spellcard with the translated name) that I couldn't have with subtitles.
I do expect people to pause the video and read those if they are interested. They are not meant to work as voice commentaries. They are meant to provide a more throughout insight (as well as some humor) than I (as a non-native english speaker) could ever hope to achieve with spoken commentaries.
And if people don't like them, they can either go and watch the comment-less video I also uploaded or just find another youtuber closer to their taste.
