    Can i use a cookie cutter to make tiles? I want to make some leaf-shaped tiles for my wall. Is this possible?

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  2 роки тому +9

      Absolutely! Cookie cutters make great tile cutters!

    • @AlpacaRenee
      @AlpacaRenee Рік тому

      Yes! And if you put plastic wrap over the clay, the tiles come out without crumbs and slightly rounds the top edges. Happy cutting!

    Thanks again.

    This is such a complicated way to do it, in my opinion. There's a tutorial by Blank Earth Ceramics that feels much simpler and much faster too. But, to each her own.

    which clay should i buy for making tiles?

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  3 роки тому +3

      I guess it depends on what they are being used for. If you have a high fire or mid range fire kiln you can use either porcelain or stoneware. That will ensure that your tiles can withstand more extreme weather. If they are just for inside decorative you can do a low fire earthenware. I hope that helps!

      So far my favorite clay, that is the most versatile is Laguna B-Mix cone 5.

    If you were to do something three-dimensional, would there be a way other than the heavy plank to keep the tiles from warping?

    • @MrExplorerFilms
      @MrExplorerFilms 5 місяців тому +2

      I'm no expert, but letting the pieces dry slowly could help with warping. You could achieve this by covering them with a slightly damp cloth and not rush the drying process.

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  5 місяців тому +3

      You could put them on top of a sheet rock board and gently put a plastic cover over them like Saran Wrap and let them dry slowly.

    Can you use wax paper instead of paper so it won't stick ?

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  11 місяців тому +1

      I have tried using wax paper before. It starts to wrinkle as it gets moist and then it leaves wrinkle marks on the clay. For the things I have tried, printer paper seems to best at not leaving any wrinkle marks.

    I don’t have a kiln just lying around my house?

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  Рік тому +8

      Unfortunately, when you work with ceramics, you will have to fire your work in a kiln. I understand the frustration of not having one! They are big, heavy and expensive. You can check with local pottery dealers and schools to see if you can find a public kiln where you can fire your work at. If you want to find one for your home I suggest looking locally for used ones.

    Really great video. I am looking to make my own for installation. You are the only one showing( that I saw) how to.
    I’m going to be straight with you. So I welcome your erasing my comment because this is not why you do videos. But nevertheless I believe you may find more views from both genders if you show your natural beauty in the way you have in this video.
    Absolutely stunning. From what your wearing, your hair. Wow! I really could watch all day if I had time.
    Honestly I do not watch UA-cam videos just to watch any woman. Let alone comment to any ever. But today I had to make an exemption.
    Some fortunate guy…. Well I can only imagine what his life is like on any given evening.
    Sincerely Luke C.

      She's literally not showing any part of her body but her arms. She's making tiles for god's sake. Do you want her to wear a blazer? This is a UA-cam video, not a job interview. If you have a problem "taking her seriously" because of her clothes, then you're a stvp!d human being, because what she wears will not discredit her credibility. Have a not so nice day!
