How To Install M4 Exhaust on ZX6R and First Start

- This is a short video on how to Install a M4 Exhaust on a Kawasaki NINJA ZX6R. This Pipe is very easy to Install, But some reviews I have read have said they had a bit of a Hard Time. I know this video is a few years old, but I wanted to say THANK YOU! I just installed an M4 GP on my 2016 Ninja 636 today and your video was PERFECT!
*Sold my ZX10R and got a 1299 Panigale. HATED IT. Got another ZX10R now and it has launch control and quickshifter. I will install one of those. Nice vid*
Once again, props on putting this out there. Very simple process following along with the video. Cat converter on uninstall was very easy. I performed all work while the bike was on its rear stand so just rotated the tire in reverse and voila! A little more work for me to get the M4 on but eventually with patience I got it. Thank again!

Unfortunately a week later a car pulled out and the whole right side of my bike including the exhaust has been damaged!
I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm very happy you are okay. I would cry if I dropped this bike. But I cried even harder when it drove away... I would have rather taken a scratch then for it to be gone...

They do sale a stage 2 baffle for it to make it quieter but I like the loud. The 2 bros is loud too though.
Here is a short cut for you ZX6r guys. Put bolt through supplied mounting bracket top hole attach nut on a few threads. Now tape the nut to back of bracket with duct tape just a 3/4 inch strip. Unscrew bolt. thread in top mounting bolt till a few threads are exposed and position mounting bracket behind it. Slip a Phillips head screwdriver into bottom hole for stabling and press the taped nut with finger against exposed top bolt then gingerly screw in bolt and you should feel it tightening. Easy peezy

What is the loudest exhaust for the zx6r?
The antiseze goes on the pipe where it fits in, not on the bolts. It's not loctite, it's antiseze. If you want loctite on the bolts you need to use blue loctite 242
Great video, install was a breeze. You're right the top bolt on the bracket was a pain.
@Colby, its normal for a smell on newly installed exhaust. Give out a few runs and it should go away.

Yeah its the stage 1, I do not want to take it out because ill lose some power if I do. But from what I have noticed, its about the same if the silencer is in or out.
i'm actually going to buy the black one for my 2013 636 because my bike is matte white and matte black ... lol .. matte black exhaust ... ohh yaaaaa :D:D
great video man. I have a quick question, what about the 2 wires that are attached to the stock exhaust? what is that for? Did you have to redo your timing on the engine? thanks.
A know a loooong time to answer but that was for the butterfly servo thing under the seat I just unhook them and pulled the wires out and left the servo in the bike

Thanks great vid and additional info one more question I know I'm asking a lot but did you have to have your bike re-mapped?
I know this is a long time to answer this question but at first I did not but then later on down the line I did install a power commander five and just downloaded the preset for my bike and the M4 exhaust slip on for the mapping

Hey Riley, kudos for the install video. Me and my buddy just finished installing the M4 to my '12 ZX6R. Question... after you ran your bike, did you smell a burning smell? Also, at night you can look in the pipe and see a cherry red color. Put your hand over the discharge and just the air coming out will nearly burn your hand!
Yes I would recommend the M4 if you want one that screams at high RPMs.
Got it installed. And it is pretty loud. I believe on gonna keep the silencer in. Lol. But it has a great sound

Not yet. Seeing how its just a Slipon, you dont need one if you dont want to. I will be putting one on soon though.

i have the black 2012....i'm looking for exhaust...but that's too loud i think for my taste...any suggestions on something a bit quieter? perhaps the two brothers?

I had No prob with the FI light. I would Recommend a PCV or a Brazz. I used the PCV and the Website map for the slip on M4.
Oh lol sorry, Yes it does come with the Stage 1, If you want or need the Stage 2, you can get it for like $40 or so

I have the Black one. If I had a 2013 636, I think with the way Kawasaki made the 636 have some silver/Titanium rear brake lever, shifter, heel gaurds ext, I think I would have got the Titanium. But seeing the 2012 is mostly Black, I figured to go with the black.... And I thinking of how I could Possably "Mod" the Color of the M4 Logo ;) if you know what I mean.
The bike is alright... you however.. damn ;)

didn't you have to take off the rear tire to take off the big exhaust box
Use your Motorcycle Service Manual to torque the bolts correctly with wrench torque!

where did you get that gremlin bell?? if i guess right i'd say you have it on there to keep all the bad mechanical issues away :P
So you just removed the cables from the servo and left it under the seat connected right? Also did you need to do any re mapping or ecu flash power commander? Ect.?
i am curious since you did not mention it. have you had any problems with the FI light and what was your solution.

ive ordered this exhaust with mid pipe, after watching so many videos im scared my bike will be way too loud lol , also do you need to get a o2 eliminator ?

Question: is this possible for a 07 zx650r? It sais they only made this for 09 and later models but I don't see why it wouldn't work with an 07. And there's videos on UA-cam of it on 07's as well.
What made you choose the m4? I've just made my mind up on getting a 2 bros full system for my 2013 zx6r.

Hi dude, is this the 2009-2012 Kwak? Also I couldn't tell if the slip on removed the cat converter, I know on my GSXR1000 it did, ill be getting the 2010 ninja600 in a few weeks and buying another M4 for this bike, love M4. Thanks in advance

Yeah I wanted a ZX10r but I don't think it will happen. So most likely a 2013-present 636

Did you have stock headers and the cat still on?with just a slip on?
yes the cat and header was stock on this bike. With my 636 I will be installing a Full system M4.
Quick question does anyone know if the FI light comes on once they remove the cables from the servo and leave the servo alone.
No it does not. Only will if you remove the whole servo. Then you would need a jumper buddy to turn it off. But just the cables = no FI light

just took them off. left the servo on.

Ashawkys it doesn’t as long as you keep the servo hooked up. It doesnt actually need the cables to not throw a code, just the electronics need to be plugged in still until you get a servo buddy if you want to remove the paperweight under the seat
