As always, we appreciate you guys watching this one! Stay tuned to the channel for FINALLY some travel videos. I know its been awhile but they are coming soon, we promise! Feel free to watch this series for one of our most fun trips in recent years. ua-cam.com/video/UyWVIJpB_pU/v-deo.html
I've used Harley, Drag Specialties, and Yuasa batteries. I've also found that if I let them sit on a charger before install, they tend to do better in the long run. That might just be with the aftermarket ones though.
Used DEKA on RoadKing and DynaSwitchback…..BatteryTender always when in the garage. Turn the engines over twice a month if not riding….our issue: too hot to ride in Florida from May-October…..brutal According to both my shops, DEKA is good. Both bikes had the OEM batteries go south in about 2-3 years. DEKA does better in the heat………..Great video…thanks.
Great video & it was nice to see Mrs.Blacktop allowed you to do battery replacement without her supervision. Also, it’s good that you have a room reserved at Sturgis, because I’m out in the hills right now & they are estimating a possible record attendance this year.
Yuasa Batteries work great, I got 6 years out of my last battery with a battery tender. Which is pretty good with winter storage (Buffalo NY). I made the mistake and switched to a advance auto battery once, only lasted a year now I only buy Yuasa.
Good tutorial. You can actually get the battery cover off of a Dyna w/o removing the seat., btw... once you pop that bottom screw off (mine's an allen for some reason... same bike as yours, though), just jiggle the cover a bit and it'll clear those two tabs on top. When putting it back on, just lift the seat with your hand a bit (most have a tiny bit of play) fit the top end of the cover over the two tabs, then guide it down over the bottom edge of the battery. Don't panic if it doesn't seat all the way at first, just jiggle it a bit and it'll find its way home. ;)
10mm wrench is always the one that's missing.I did a video trying to replace my battery one of the hardest things I have done I fought with it trying to get it out of my Electraglide out lol.I agree with the harley batteries,I always use the the dielectric grease good tip.I will just put the strap on ha ha . Ya I caught that lol. I find a video like this do very well over time.
I seem to appreciate watching for expert maintenance clues, then expert says, I've never done this before! So I'll give you the tricks to removing Harley dyna battery I've learned, doing it before!. 1. Battery cover hard too remove, so I used thin blade putty knife to pry out cover from frame. Pry cover out from top with wide blade. 2. Many like to connect negative battery cable last. But battery mounting in Dyna requires negative cable to be mounted first against safety. I don't like that practice (that means, if your positive wire is connected too battery first, then you connect negative wire, but if you touch your 10mm wrench onto a grounded frame, it will Arc weld) . I place putty blade behind frame onto bottom of batter then pry to lift battery over battery pan edge.
I believe the aftermarket batteries not capable of handling the harley vibration ,maybe a helpful tip is to stuff a towel under battery box and let it hang down over exhaust to avoid losing bolt or scratching anything if your a wrench dropper
I installed a new battery in my dyna and I did the same order that you did on the wires but for some reason my negative was sparking when I was putting the screws in
Aint that the truth and I'm hoping that I can be as helpful as some of the channels such as yours that was a big part in me deciding also that I could bo this 🤔 And thx for that as well love your channel keep up the great work look forward to the next one. And to see Mrs.Blacktop devil ride your Dina. Lmao. I'm thinking soon lol.
Ok, you need to be careful, sir, how you started your videos ... Hello ... The moment my head hit the desk hard laughing my ass off for the first time - hilarious 😂😋😂 That is unfortunate ... Took my wife to peel me off the floor cause I was laughing so hard 🤣🤣🤣 Cudos to you that you left that screw drop sequence in the video. Trust me, similar shit happens to me at least once every project I do on my bike or my wife's lol magnetic pole is my best friend lol Don't have a Dyna but that doesn't matter because your footage is just great entertainment. Stay and ride safe ... And what kind of bike was that behind the Dyna? A scooter or something? Mrs BTDs bike is red, isn't it?
We definitely try but a lot of the time we get boxed in with ice for two months. Makes for a struggle to get the bike out. Deka makes the HD batteries don't they?
I had the same thing happen last year. Replaced the old battery with a new PREMIUM BATTERY and the bike quit running 75 miles from home. The new battery had an internal short which also destroyed my alternator. That was not a fun experience,
Funny you say buy Harley batteries, they are made by East Penn, the worst 2 car batteries I ever bought were Deka by East Penn. One was DOA, shop even tested it and agreed, the other went out in three months. I cant comment on Harley labeled ones, but i just inherited a Dyna and a Tri Glide and i got to get the running to sell.
I have a lithium battery in my Harley and I don't have any problems. I'm getting ready for a nine month deployment. I'm going to have to get a new one then.
It’s one of those things that’s probably a good practice to get in the habit of so you just always do it. I’m forgetful, especially when I’m trying to run cameras at the same time so it’s hit or miss on this channel lol!

It's okay you'alls videos are worth waiting for. Take your time and be careful on the road.

Yuasa has treated me well in non HD stuff

Awesome!

A little dielectric grease on each surface helps with corrosion protection too.
Yes, was going to say the same.
Or marine “Corrosion Block”……developed from Aerospace….great stuff for bikes and boats…or anything else.
In Michigan come December usually I pull the battery and put it on a tender in the house. Tenders aren’t good for long time in the cold.
I do the exact same thing. On the trickle, in the house Dec. to March.
I started buying fleet farm batteries many years ago, but since my 05 road glide bought HD and will continue. For me, just a better piece of mind.
Changing the battery always scares the crap out of me, I’m accident prone lol. This was a great how to video.
haha, I've had some interesting encounters with batteries over the years so I totally get it!
Another great step by step how to vid BlackTopDevil 🤘🏻😎🇺🇸
BlacktopDevil, Makes sense staying with the Battery Brand you know after what happened on your Dad’s Motorcycle. Nice easy swap. Ride Safe.
Just installed an interstate AGM battery
Super tight fit!!! Probably go back with a HD battery next time

I'm on my 2nd new HD battery. 1st lasted approx. 7/8 years. Don't ever have to worry about "fit" issues.
Thanks for sharing this with us. I went out to see what Jim was doing and he too was taking out a battery. 💕NonnaGrace

That's my hopes because it sure isn't doing great off the rip lol
Thanks for the video! I having trouble finding a battery for my Piaggio Mp3 250 because it over sea in Italy! 🇺🇸 hard to find here!

I'm only a wrench dropper when my camera lady takes the day off 😂
I installed a new battery in my dyna and I did the same order that you did on the wires but for some reason my negative was sparking when I was putting the screws in
Just letting you know it's connected 😂
Nice refresher . Thanks 😊
How often do YOU put the "Strap on"?
😂
Great job.
Ther are alot of people that will be very helpful to.
Always the goal, helping others!
Aint that the truth and I'm hoping that I can be as helpful as some of the channels such as yours that was a big part in me deciding also that I could bo this 🤔

Your garage door button still working good mounted there?
It is! I still need to get a better mount made but it's working fine

I'm weird sometimes 😂 and that hot rod behind the Dyna was our Yamaha Vino scooter in all of its glory 😂
Good job…
Hey man. Did you locate that bolt? The suspense is killing me.
Haha yeah! I was going to put that clip at the end and totally spaced it off!
I've read as well as being told by my favorite technicians that aftermarket batteries can fry the stator.
I don't even own a tender I ride All year even though I'm in Delaware. I buy deka battery from local battery place never had any trouble with them.
We definitely try but a lot of the time we get boxed in with ice for two months. Makes for a struggle to get the bike out. Deka makes the HD batteries don't they?
Yes they alot motorcycle batteries they just match it up to what Harley uses
I had the same thing happen last year. Replaced the old battery with a new PREMIUM BATTERY and the bike quit running 75 miles from home. The new battery had an internal short which also destroyed my alternator. That was not a fun experience,
Ouch!
Never put my battery on a tender, just ride it a couple times a month in the winter, on my 2nd battery 2011 streetglide
Good Job !!!!

So are you getting it ready for lady devil to take it over?
Slowly just in case lol
🤘😎🤘
STRAP ON
😂
Great video but can someone please tell me how to get the battery out without setting off the alarm. It’s got me beat.
On a dyna? You can probably pull the main fuse prior to working on it if you're having issues.
@@LifeontheBlacktop okay thank you.
I have a lithium battery in my Harley and I don't have any problems. I'm getting ready for a nine month deployment. I'm going to have to get a new one then.
Oh man, where to?
Morgan Freeeman Narrates:
"...and by "HIS" bike he means "HER new bike"
Ha, yeah right!!!
Honestly you're probably right lol
😂😂👍
shoulda recorded you fishing for that screw! -c
I tried but I ended up needing both hands lol
Always ... Always ... Always ... Put a bath towel down underneath your bike to catch the screws that you will eventually drop , trust me I know .
I thought it was a brilliant video
Thank you sir!
Well, that did start out awkward lol
😂
No need to pull the main fuse? Hear different stories about it.
It’s one of those things that’s probably a good practice to get in the habit of so you just always do it. I’m forgetful, especially when I’m trying to run cameras at the same time so it’s hit or miss on this channel lol!
For what they charge you would hope Harley has higher standards for whoever makes their batteries lol
Right?! 🤣
