Hey, just to let you know your video helped me decide to go for this model. Also the store had a video sample and that really made things easier. It will come from Japan, though it is a 2017 made one, it's being said that some slight improvements were made when they released the olympic white model (but Fender Japan was not specific about). Thanks!

Hey, What improvement did Fender make? Any info source? I have a 2017 model too.

I've just been turned on to these Hama Okamoto basses hence, I'm doing a trawl to find as many reviews as I can. They certainly do the 'P' thing very well - it's a Precision after all; but I'm interested in the 'J' profile neck. I have a '95 MIJ and it's excellent but I'm after something similar with a jazz neck and this fits the bill. Thanks for doing the video - lovely playing, mate! Greetings from the UK.

Yeah the Jazz Neck - P Body combo really feels great. To be honest everything I’ve played by Fender Japan has been excellent on the whole, so I wasn’t really surprised how good this one was - look forward to hearing yours! Cheers

I have never been interested in palm mute techniques until I played this video. Now I NEED to learn it! How do you do that? Would you PLEASE consider doing a video on your right hand techniques? Phenomenal playing!

Thanks so much for the kind words!
To be honest I wouldn’t really know what to say in a tutorial apart from watch a lot of Pino Palladino (thats what inspired me), experiment with how much pressure you apply with your palm and where you place it in order to get the volume the same as with your fingers/pick etc., and don’t play too hard with your thumb - it will choke the tone.
      🙂

Hey, awesome groove! Does it really got a thinner neck as advertised? I play mostly guitar but need a bass for recording and thought of getting a definitive bass for myself. I was after a Mustang Bass with precision pickups because precision necks usually are big for my hands but short scale comes with some tone sacrifices. Thank you!

Yes it really does, basically a Jazz Bass neck on a P Bass body. It really feels and sounds excellent, and those paddle tuners top off the look

Hi Mate. I've ordered one of these. How is the action out of the box? I have a US P that after numerous set-ups it is pretty hard to get a low action on it. Hoping with this one I can get it around 2mm.

You shouldn’t have any issues mate - Japanese Fenders are excellent.
Wishing you many hours of Bass happiness!

What do you think of the stock pickup? Is it a keeper? I was debating between this and the Tomomi Precision which I was leaning towards for several reasons: Alder vs Basswood body, natural satin finish, big 70's logo and especially the Pure Vintage '63 pickup. The price difference kept me in check for too long as I waited and it's now discontinued and I don't want to pay an even higher price because of it. By the way, the Tomomi Jazz is terrific!

Yeah pickups were great. Put simply it did the P Bass thing perfectly. Thumpy and fits into any mix.
Haven’t tried the Tomomi Jazz - yet!

    Nee your opinion
If you have to choose one, jmj mustang or this hama?
Thank you so much for your opinion, really need & appreciated it 🙏
    Regard from indonesia

I personally prefer the Hama - I’ve found every JMJ Mustang disappointing and a bit dull when I’ve played them (live and in shops).
Of course 30” vs 34” scale makes a big difference.
But as always these things are highly individual and if the JMJ speaks to you, then it’s the right bass for you!

Hi, this Bass belongs to someone else, I had it as I was doing some maintenance and a setup on it.
From memory he bought it in Australia, so I don’t think there would have been any customs fees bringing it into NZ. Hope that helps!
