I didn’t know about the first way, cool! Next time my director wants us to show him how to play Bb (because people are being incompetent), I’m gonna pull that on him.
@@ItsKalise The note Bb on the trombone is played in first position meaning we don’t have to move or press anything. All we have to do is buzz and you got it
Does the first solve the issue of the terrible sounding middle notes? Wouls be great! B flat is fun bc it's not much fingers but it sounds so dull compared to the clarion register
The side key sounds so much more crisp though, and it doesn’t tend to be as flat as register key Bb. I prefer it too, but it’s harder and slower to switch to and from it. My rule of thumb is side key Bb for long notes, register key Bb for quick notes.
Hey there, actually the "normal" way to play Bb is usually really sharp. As well as all the throat tones. The best way to get your intonation right is adding more fingers to those notes in order to get a better intonation and tuning. The side keys are usually for trills or chromatic passages, F# for example so you don't have to skip your thumb and pointer finger :)
AS A CLARINETIST if you wanna play the easier way I recommend back and front. But if you wanna do a bit of showing off ig per say? Um, you’d do the 1st one shown.
The first one only works if your Bridge Keys is aligned and in tune which might be a problem for some people when they're supposed to be flat and need to adjust thier clarinet to thier hands
I used to do the first one as it was my favorite as well, but recently the side key gets stuck when I press it down which becomes an issue so I do the second option now
@@tx2rules2024 I’ve been playing for now 6 and yeah there’s 4 1. A plus side key 2. B plus small lil button 3. B plus F key 4. B plus F# key While the F and F# keys are very similar, they are considered different variations
My band director taught us to either use the A key and the register key but we also had to play a normal A with all our fingers down so it was easier to go to a B natural when we were doing scales.
DAWG REALLY???? Our teacher taught us to play the 2nd one, with the register key and teardrop A key, but I didn’t know they had that way too! Maybe I should have looked into the back of my book more careful where all the note variations were at😅
I just started the clarinet I am a trombonist um it’s different but I’m self teaching my self and I have gotten pretty far I finally moved up to a 3 strength Reed and it’s been pretty good I am trying to play the first b flat clarinet part of Japanese pictures at the moment if you don’t know what it is look it up
The clarinet seems like it could use a bit more keywork added to it. An easier way to pop open that b-flat is one example, but also a second automatic register key so the lowest notes can be more in tune.
I didn’t know about the first way, cool! Next time my director wants us to show him how to play Bb (because people are being incompetent), I’m gonna pull that on him.
😂😭 that's rude
As a trombonist, I find this interesting.
😂
Same.
wait why
@@ItsKalise The note Bb on the trombone is played in first position meaning we don’t have to move or press anything. All we have to do is buzz and you got it
Literally me
I didn’t know the first method. Thanks for enlightening me.
Happy to help!
As a clarinetist, the 3rd side key and A key is the fun way and it pinch is the band way
I’ve always done the register key one because it works better when playing quickly, but the trill key fingering for Bb makes a much better sound.
You guys def should learn alternative keys, it helps a lot when switching notes ok music especially if it feels awkward to press a key
Thank you, I was learning it,😊😊😊
Edit: WHY DO I HAVE SO MUCH LIKES FOR THIS
Does the first solve the issue of the terrible sounding middle notes? Wouls be great! B flat is fun bc it's not much fingers but it sounds so dull compared to the clarion register
Wait.....what?
I played for years and I never knew this
same bro
That’s alarming
When going from F to Bb it’s easier to use this
Yeah well its not exactly convenient. Still, for long notes maybe it's useful
Yep! It's nice to know alternate fingerings because they come in handy in different situations
The side key sounds so much more crisp though, and it doesn’t tend to be as flat as register key Bb. I prefer it too, but it’s harder and slower to switch to and from it. My rule of thumb is side key Bb for long notes, register key Bb for quick notes.

In many cases, the second option is used, since the first case does not sound nice
Yo guys this is my band teacher (it's Jaxon)
Hey Jaxon
@@DrSelfridgeMusic hi
I didn’t know that, I was doing crab claw (second method) my 3 years of playing! thank you for teaching alternative fingerings 😊
As a non clarinet player I still find this interesting
Also for better tone you should play it the second way but with finger 2,3,5,6 and RP2 all pressed DO NOT PUT DOWN FINGER 4
You could use resonnance fingerings to make it sound fuller and more in tune
i like the 23 56 F
AS A CLARINETIST if you wanna play the easier way I recommend back and front. But if you wanna do a bit of showing off ig per say? Um, you’d do the 1st one shown.
I never knew the trill key way until I tried random fingerings yesterday 😂😂

I play it a different way😮😮😮😮
How do you play it?
I want to buy clarinet but im confuse with the key is it 14 key or 17 key which one to buy im new any help please?
I play bass clarinet, so I don’t have that high b flat often so when I do I play it with the register, like most people’s preference
there are 3 ways to play B flat on Alto Sax😂
Technically, it’s like 4 🤓👆
@@firebonepg7521 u sure? im pretty sure it’s 3, ive been playing alto sax for 4 years lol 🤦♂️

I'm Indian please sir B FLAT clarinet C,F,G,majer scales play
Iv'e been playing the Top 2nd side trill key and A-key is a Bflat.
My band director taught us to either use the A key and the register key but we also had to play a normal A with all our fingers down so it was easier to go to a B natural when we were doing scales.
Im a Euphonium player... Time to steal my friend clarinet
First of all if you are in concert pitch on any woodwind instrument use your resonance fingerings
Please do more clarinet reels....add in when it's easiest to do certain fingering.
It depends on the notes you are playing before the note, play whatever fingering you can get to the fastest
Thanks for that suggestion!
Wow imagine not knowing how to play b flat, you have to suck
No it doesn’t work because when u press down the second trill key its higher
As a percussionist, we can play b flat in an infinite amount of ways
I physically cannot hold the register key.
Me, a flutist: How many trill keys??
Wait till they find the third way on the bass clarinet
Eb is the most annoying key in the world
I like doing the a key and the key above the f key
As someone who played clarinet as my first instrument before switching to sax i find this very interesting
My band teacher calls it rock in roll for b flat
Imo the second method is 100x easier
What is the model of the clarinet?
Yo
Why is this your favorite way
As a bassoonist I like this
Also known as Ab on a piano
The second one is a#
Thank you!
I did it woohoo

I’ve been playing clarinet for a year and had no idea that was the register key

So thats what that key is for 😂 i dont think ive ever used it before
Didn’t even know that the first way existed 💀
For me the one with the side key sounds for full and less airy
I play the second way cause it is easier imo

It hard to move fingers on a clarinet there 26 keys
Their is like 8 ways to play Bb lol
who knew?
As a person who has played for a decade I have learned nothing 😭
As a Scotsman, I find this interesting 🪈
