This is a terrific series! I am now retired and I am a new learner -at age 61 - and the instructions are easy to follow. The added "sheet music" is a great way to also learn how to read music. The presenter is very clear and each lesson is in a small, manageable bite so the experience is not overwhelming.
It's my first year in band! It's wood winds and yesterday we wrote our instrument choices I picked 1. Clarinet 2. Bass clarinet 3. Flute I hope I get 1 of the clarinets lol
Please do more videos! I have a clarinet book but seeing and hearing someone play the notes makes me remember them better. You're the only one I can find that shows what to do in such detail.
Oh my goodness! This helps so much! I am a flutist in 8th grade band, and I wanted to teach myself to play an old clarinet we have, in ONE HOUR I LEARNED HOW TO PLAY! Awesome!
Your videos are so helpful my 4th grader is doing so much better now with practice and these videos to refer to for help, also helped this mama learn more so i could help her. Thanks!
I play trumpet and am learning how to play clarinet for fun. It is amusing to see the notereading be a subject that is gone over a lot of times in these videos. But it is a necessity, keep practicing all you beginners out there, it gets easier.
Thank you Mr. Selfridge. I searched and searched for someone to show the fingering in relationship to the notes and I found you. THANK YOU! That is what a beginner needs that most overlook.
Lol at the end of the video you said thanks for watching.... I would rather say thank you for sharing these lessons and for helping us !!! Thanks a lot !! 😀
I got a clarinet for Christmas and your videos have taught me so much already! You're a great teacher, thank you so much! I'd love to learn how to play the rest of the notes by your videos too, they're really helpful so it would be much appreciated if you made more in the near future! Hope you had a lovely Christmas and have a happy new year!
Just got helps me so much I'm in band at my school and I play the clarinet am in ninth grade and this guy held for you so good that I can play really good thank you for this :)
Do you have a video (or can you make one) for playing the other lower notes? My daughter is having a horrible time getting her pinkie to curve and hit the key right for a lower F.
Thanks! I'm starting band on Monday and they're testing people To see which instrument is right for you. I really want to do the clarinet, so I'm going to try to learn these notes :)
Thanks for lessons,You really are a good teacher ad inspired me Want to start learning clarinet what price range or exact model do you recommend?(its my first wind instrument but not first one at all) Should i buy a Bb key one? i appreciate your help...
Looking forward to more videos on how to place the fingers. I have a fingering chart but I'm not sure how to cover up both the hole and lever (on the back of the clarinet--the big tear-drop shaped one) at the same time.
ty that help lot i knew fge now how do it now ty so much for show it !!!!! im still a new at it i how teacher but he been busy with school start so i go by this too ....and book too.
OK I am a beginner for the clarinet and I saw this video to help me but I want to know all the notes on the clarinet and I want to know how to play them so can you please put a new video to help me please. Thank you very much.
I bought a slightly used Jupiter bb flat clarinet yesterday for $200, was it a good deal? It's in perfect condition other then one small air hole but as long as I press down hard enough it covers it.
Dear MrSelfridge , do you possibly know what im doing wrong if it keeps making a really high pitched screech instead of a calm note like above? I personally don't think its my blowing... but who knows! please respond asap!!!! :( And I cant wait to hear you opinion!!! :)
+Brooklyn McLaren I don't know if you solved your problem or gave up but have you mouth on the tip of the read not having the entire reed in the mouth (sounds gay I know but I am being serious here) make sure your not blowing too hard. If that doesn't work than let me know. BEFORE YOU ASK THIS DOES SOUND GAY HOWEVER I AM NOT GAY. Sorry there are rude people on the internet
Go am learning this song that needs me to play F flat how do you do play an f flat? Can make a video on like flats and etc? I know these video might take a while to make, but when you get the chance can you? Thanks!
+MrSelfridge I'm starting clarinet at school. And last week our homework was to play notes using the register key. But I can't get the right sound. Whenever I lift or put down another finger, the sound won't change :(
Sir,I am planning to buy a clarinet. I have budget issues.Could you suggest a few brands to look for while buying a clarinet which can serve the purpose decently.I am looking for all purpose and one time buy in moderate range.
I've been off clarinet for 30 years (played for 10 years previously) and have lost a lot of mobility in my left hand due to surgery but are considering picking it back up again to see what I can get back. It's either that or go back to saxophone again which I miss playing almost as much. Most of the muscle loss will be just on the left thumb as the base of the thumb joint is partially fused to the socket, but think it might not be too bad considering the "F" key is a pretty stable position that doesn't require dealing any side keys on the clarinet, or the octave key on the sax. At least I hope so... #FingersCrossed. Any suggestions on ways to loosen up that left thumb? I used to have a fantastic range and could easily hold even high notes well over 30 seconds. It will take quite a while to get back to that if at all (these old lungs ain't what they used to be). I still have my Luyben Ligature and insist on top of the line mouthpieces & high quality reeds I cure myself so that should help.
Destiny Artist I would suggest getting the book "Foundations for a superior performance" it shows all the notes and fingering chart and has all the scales and exercises in that key signature
So I joined band and here is what I picked 1. Alto Sax 2. Clarinet 3. Flute In the end I picked 2. I wish summer wasn't so long so I can get my clarinet
i watched the video and i liked it but it was strange bc when i played the notes my sound was high can you please help me. Emma Coil PS. i have just started THX
why all tutorials on youtube show f-sharp as only index finger on the upper hole and f for only Thumb on the lower hole? On my clarinet this sound extremely strange and all fingering patterns i find are different from this. I'm trying to teach the clarinet to myself with online lessons/videos and its extremely hard to understand, why they all have a fingering, thats different from mine. Its especially hard, because noone writes, if he is using an a or a b clarinet. Or are there even other kinds in US or UK? I'd appreciate, if someone could tell me, why all fingering shards say "Thumb+Index-Finger+third keay (right hand) = F" and all tutorials say only thumb is f ? for me it's very confusing and I find no explanation :(
