great review of basics. As an occasional Sketchup user, I'm forever having to go back and re-learn so a review video of commonly used features is a great addition. As always, extremely well presented, clear and concise. Thank you.
I love your videos. I had to learn SketchUp really quickly for my job, so naturally, I trusted the young professional who's place I was taking. She did a fine job with the short time we had... But man I wish I'd found your videos sooner, cuz I was just making mistake after mistake, just not knowing how to do it the right way. Now I'm comfortable in it and going back to some basics to find easier methods. Your examples and explanations are to the point and easy to follow. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others!!!
Hi Justin 9:50 that trick also works with the follow me tool as well, ie. do two or three profiles against o face use a path (line) for the face to follow then erase the outer shape of the followed face and your profiles are remaining. bingo you have several profiles that have been created.
I really like the section about cutting holes through curved faces - didn't think that was possible! The trick with the "negative" multiple extrusions is nifty too, although I rather doubt I'll ever need it. Nice to know, though. Keep up the good work - I'm learning a lot.
Your videos are great; always to-the-point and very inspiring. I don't have much to add, but when you cut a hole in an object that has a curved face on one side and a flat face on the other, you can draw the shape (for instance rectangle) on the flat face, then push it through the curved face. After this, triple-click to select all faces, then intersect faces with selection as you did in this video. This saves you from ... 1: Deleting both sides of the object you want to remove. 2: Orienting the faces that were "removed". Sometimes I need to close a lot of rectangular holes that have the same size. I close one by using the push-pull tool, then I double-click the same side on all the other holes. (If it's a round hole, I just double-click the cylindrical face and hit backspace, SketchUp removes the hole completely - both through-holes and 'blind holes'.
Very good videos you make, straight to the point, fast, and very clear. I did't found what I was looking for actually: I want to extend (with push function 20 beams from a concreet horizontal floor into a roof with a 25° slope. Should I extend them all with the length of the longest one and then cut them 1 by 1? Or is there a better way? Thanks heaps!
Hey Justin, I've been looking for a way to push pull a mitered corner on a component. I've watched a ton of your videos which are all amazing but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm working on a cabinetry model and I often have pieces of trim that intersect with a flat face at an angle. So for example I have a 3/4" x 1 1/2" piece of trim terminating into an end panel at a 25 degree angle. In my model as I'm adjusting dimensions and figuring out the layout I am struggling with extending this trim piece. When I push pull the mitered face, the face always extends at a 90 degree angle to the face rather than extending along the long dimension of my trim piece. I've tried aligning axes, but can't seem to make it do what I want. And it's very time consuming to add geometry manually and then re-trim the piece at an angle using other more tedious methods. Any suggestions? I'm running the pro version. Thanks again for the videos!
Excelent sum up. Just show us your excitement about all this job and your joy for helping us. May be you are not used to public talking but it’d be great to smile more. Too static. Just an advice. Great video again!!
Altright, I'm seriously banging my head against the wall. Your video has some great tips and I'm really interested in #6. However, it seems like my control key does nothing of the sort and I can't find anywhere how to ask it to give me a new face. I know what I'm doing is pretty basic to pros, but I'm so stuck. I have a shoe cubby shelf and I want to push/pull out to an angled line which to me seems like I need to use scale on the second face. Do I have a version of the software that just doesn't have this??
I was always able to do it and it no longer allows me to do so with my Mac. im wondering if it is changed feature. I just downloaded the newest version
Hey Justin...really great stuff! Just getting started with SketchUp. After making the expected mistakes with the push/pull heights... is there a way to get all surfaces back to "0" so they are all at the same level/height again??
Jason, is there a way to extend a roof using the PP tool? Lets say for instance I have a 6 in 12 pitch roof, Plumb cut rafter tails and I want to extend the overhangs from 12" to 24". I've tried aligning the blue (+Z) axis with the roofs angle (i.e. coming down the angle) and yet when I pull the fascia board it follows the original negitive (Y) Green Axis. Any suggestions?
Never mind, I figured it out....but would still love to hear your solution. I just made the fascia board (rafter tail cuts) perpendicular to the top edge of rafter and viola!....
One question, I tried that double click on multiple objects to push/pull with the same height/length but it didnt work like yours. My first object went upwards like how I intended it to be but the next objects went downward. Hmmmm
Can you extrude an angle face in a different direction than just its own normal? Like a 2x4 board with a 45 cut in one end. How can you make the board longer? SketchUp always extends the cut face in its own direction, not along the long axis of the board itself!
my push/pull tool is not working. when i try and push the space to make an empty space it just makes a box on the other side. do you know how i can fix this?
If I am making a group of the entity and then using push/pull tool on that group...push/pull tool isn't working on those entity which are made into groups...can you please explain why is this happening?
@@Thesketchupessentials yes u have used push/pull command in the part 1 of your layout video..I have mentioned it in that video too...how come its working there with group and layers?
i have a problem where my push pull margin is too big. Like its not precise, its either pull/push by 1000meters or not push/pull at all, can anyone help?
Don't I need a .jpg file extension or somthing? While I have you here ,when my 30 day trial of sketch up pro expires what is needed to continue with sketch up free. Yes I'm very impressed with your videos . Thank you
Very good instructional video. It is obvious that you are an expert Sketchup teacher and speak very well. I just have one suggestion. Stop using the word "basically" 99% of the time it is used these days, it is superfluous. I liken its use to the once popular "like" in that it leaves the speaker an out when the speaker doesn't need one. Its use is common in youtube instructional videos but not normally within the most professional presentations. Please don't take offense, this is my opinion and I mention it to you in a constructional sense.
Now that makes sense, I was skipping through the video. Im really going to need that extension😅. Thanks man, without this channel I don't know we're I would've been

Thanks for the mention. These tricks to using the basic commands can save a lot of time.

Awesome teaching Sir
good lesson thanks
Great tutorial thank you. How to pull object, but still have it in 2d?
I learn and know more with you than with my professor
Thank you.
thank a lot man........... awesome tips
Very concise! Thanks again for saving my butt!
I just picked this software up, as a long time 2d cad guy i find it fascinating and a bit addictive!

Loved the hidden geometry combined with push pull tip
Glad you liked it!

Love your videos bro 😘
Thank you!
i've a question..why i cannot insert the precise height dimension why use the pull push tool?
Are you clicking and dragging? It only works if you're single clicking to start the push, not dragging
How can i select more than one object ....and push pull at same time
I think Joint Push Pull might be able to do this
If I am making a group of the entity and then using push/pull tool on that group...push/pull tool isn't working on those entity which are made into groups...can you please explain why is this happening?
You can't push pull groups - only raw faces

How to do MULTIPLE surfaces push-pull here ...
You neglected to show how to push/pull an exact length. Add 1/4" to a surface.
Wasn't that item 4?
You can only push pull one face at a time
Correct without an extension
