I’m so blessed that I lived in a US area that has Nando’s, especially since the place I worked had one inside of it. As I’ve now moved to the UK, I definitely miss the chicken thigh skewers plus sangria and am surprised about how many more chips we get in England. But the halloumi and vusa sauce are amazing (even though the sauce isn’t hot at all)

The only thing stopping it from being as big as other chicken fast food places like KFC is their price. Nandos is considerably more expensive than KFC, mostly because they are much healthier than KFC, and so KFC has a competitive advantage in that regard. South Africa has a large population of Portuguese that came over in high numbers from Mozambique in the 1970's (when the Mozambican civil war started after they got independence from Portugal) and there are now 3rd and 4th generation Portuguese citizens who grew up in South Africa and our culture is well known in SA, further contributing to Nando's popularity. The main difference I can see between Nando's in SA and the UK is that here it's fast food chain. It's fancier and a bit more upmarket than a typical fast food restaurant but fast food nonetheless. In the UK it seems to be more of typical sit down restaurant kind of experience. But believe me when we say it's highly appreciated here. It's become a big part of SA culture even though it's roots are Portuguese/Mozambican in origin.
ahggg i’ve been waiting for this but omg i work at nandos in the US in the dc area and somethings were unfortunate to hear :( we do sell the whole chicken it’s about $20 and you don’t need it in a meal, also we sell our wings in 6 as well so it’s not just 12 or 24 and we have 3 for the kids, and in the US you can add chicken to a sandwhich just tell the cashier press the add chicken and it will be the same flavor you chose prior, also we have peritamer and it’s used on the kids menu usually but customers also order it, and lastlyyy we also offer the cara viva white and red wine because they’re the house wines of nandos in the US but omg that garlic perinase sounds good mhm but overall i lovedddd the video so happy y’all finally did this!
I will say as a former nando’s employee the chicken comes in twice to three times a week fresh. Also in the states you can get peri tamer it’s secret. And the corn is something you can get in the states during summer because it’s in season.

I’ve been to the Nandos in Maryland. The chicken is good and I’ve had the livers as well, also good. The thing that I like about Nandos is that it’s marinated and grilled/broiled. They also have sides that are not fried and taste like homemade not fast food versions, like coleslaw and mashed potatoes. You can also specify the level of spice for your chicken.

There was a time Nando’s wasn’t delivering and I was so pissed that I came up with an idea to buy my friend a bike to start delivering Nando’s charging £10 for a delivery and also offered to get him a chicken 🐔 outfit 😂 but he wasn’t down. And not long after Deliveroo came out .
Nando’s is South African in origin but it sells Mozambiquan food. And as a dual citizen Portuguese South African, most of the things on the UK/US menu are neither Portuguese nor Mozambiquan. They still sound delicious. I’d love to try them. But they’re not authentic. They just pour peri peri over random dishes and it’s “Mozambiquan styled” whatever. South African Nando’s is more authentically Mozambiquan. If they weren’t, the large Portuguese/Mozambiquan population in SA would call them out on it because we’d know better, hence why our menu is smaller. The US/UK restaurants cater to a more international customer who likely wouldn’t know the difference between authentic Mozambiquan food and a bad copy.
