In the 1980s, every child had a copy of Guinness book of world records; Wadlow was one of my favorite entries. We didn’t have internet back then, so we had to use our imaginations. It’s great to finally see film of this amazing human.
Well film footage has been around for decades. I once saw a documentary about Wadlow on TV in about the 1980s. It was quite surreal seeing how tall he was from the footage used in that doco.

Exactly as he was still growing at the time of his death - he would of easily exceeded 9 feet
so awesome not only his size but that he was such a cool guy at the same time. They said he never really got mad and the only time he used his size to his advantage was playing harmless jokes like putting peoples hats up high in places they couldnt get too. Must have been awesome to grow up with him. As awesome as it was one Cant help but wonder how tall he would have grown too if he hadnt left us so soon. IF his brother who i think is still with us reads this its a shame he had to go so young cause he seemed so cool. My sincere condolences.

12 and 6'5" shouldn't be the mind-blowing part. Many people experience growth spurts around that time. I was 14 when I grew to 6'4", but that was the height I remained. Sadly, this young man had the overactive pituitary gland that just kept making him unable to stop growing. Also, I was taller than my first-grade teacher when I was in the first-grade. My guess is he was deeply insecure when his height wouldn't subside. Especially with his massive head and feet. I'm size 14, 40 is nuts.

Robert was a very kind, sweet natured fellow. Through all the teasing, stares and kicks to the shin (!) he was positive. Can you imagine being 5 and being the size of an average woman (5'4) or being 12 at 7'2?
He passed away in 1940. It took 12 people to carry his casket. Wow.
He seemed like a great guy, seeing that he could have probably torn people in half who made him angry but it's to bad he didn't live longer I'm sure he's in heaven no pain at all living like a true giant and having the gentle heart of one too

Great part of human bodies fail or start failling at 7'5, I honestly think he's pretty much a mutant since he was able to reach 8'11 and could have reached even taller, his body did suffer the struggle, but still was capable or tolerate them, awesome.
i'm 6'4", and i find it funny when i see someone taller than me. i always tell them you're one of the very few people i have to look up to to talk to. it makes them laugh every time. it's fun to poke fun at someone who shares my same condition (excessive height)

My Mom was engaged to a man with two people in his family with this illness. As you can imagine they were very very tall (I don’t remember their exact height) but I remember my Moms fiancé talking about how many surgeries they had to undergo as they would literally grow faster than their body could support.
