When Tull was Tull.. The early lineup and chemistry was magic. Ian, you had a gem.
My favorite lineup!
@@brucereed4145Yes, the BEST line-up😘💞💯🎶🎶🔥
Jethro Tull - to my ears, simply the greatest band in the World!
I agree the greatest band of all time
incredible talent... hats off to all members
Ah yes, back when music required talent, mastery, and originality.
Well said ,Stephen -So True...
And free will
Well stated…
I love Glenns Cornicks' style. Truly a bassist 's bassist.
When I was about 14 or 15, my introduction to Jethro Tull was “Stand Up”. I loved the “pop up” gatefold sleeve, the hand drawn artwork of the boys, and musically - wow. Every song a gem. I remember being particularly impressed (and still am!) of Glenn’s bass solo on “Bouree’ “… RIP
My favorite album ! One of those classic albums ....ive played it thousands of times .
I remember buying Stand Up as a teen and was surprised and amazed when upon opening the album
the band popped-up. They were so creative back then. btw Bouree' was on the Stand Up LP from 1969....🎼🎵🎶🎤🎹🎸🎸
My favorite album of all time
JETHRO TULL
STAND UP
1969
My first Tull LP was This Was, IMO a classic!!😘 I was 16 when I bought it, one of my " Coming of age" album's! Then of course Stand Up and Benefit was as well💞💯🎶🔥
@@deborahbrown6408 All three of those first albums are must haves - if you’re a Jethro Tull fan!😁👍☮️🎸💙
By far the best bassist they ever had
One of the most underrated and overlooked bassist in rock history. I saw him a few times with early Tull in 1969 and then in 1970 at the Fillmore East Benefit Tour where Cactus opened for them and I got to sit in front of Tim Bogert and Glenn Cornick in one evening.
I love Glenn. I wrote to him a few years before his demise, and he was wonderfully open and kind to me, just a simple fan. Wonderful man....
🙏♥️🎶
I wrote to him exactly a month before he passed away. What a kind man, so gentle and happy
Wasn't he amazing? He actually sent me the address to where he was keeping his wedding photos. He evidently married a Hispanic lady from California. His Mum and Dad attended, but he was the only one who wore a kilt! 🙂@@lucaspietro2502
When you listen to these tracks you realise how important Glenn's funky bass sound was to the early band.
Ian, Glen, Martin and Clive. The best Jethro Tull line up.
I totally agree. I don't go along with line-up changes too much. Those early Tull albums "Stand Up" and "Benefit" were the definitive Jethro Tull in my books and the line up of Ian, Glen, Martin and Clive were Jethro Tull to me.
Indeed...great band
Check out the new issue of Stand up with a very cool CD of them performing cuts from the album and other gems in Sweden 1969
Totally agree ..Ian, Glen, Martin and Clive were the finest combination in Tull's long history.
Bullshit.Songs from the woods and Heavy Horses line up was just as good.Mr.Barriemore Barlow was excellent drummer
Part of my life, Jethro Tull and my younger years, and 69yrs., still a Tull fan!!...🍁
Wow that bass solo in Boureé still puts chills in my spine. Live, he was brilliant, both to hear and watch. RIP.
That was a wonderful tribute to Glen. Thank you. I always really appreciated his playing. Great to see him given such respect.
Back to the Family... Is the song Glenn and Clive crushed live and on album Stand Up..just ripps and dives and slaps you right in the Face to attention. Legendary
Glenn Cornick left us far too soon. He was a part of making some great timeless music with Jethro Tull. This was a nice tribute. Rest In Peace Glenn.
I emailed Glenn about ten years ago about something, because I had gone to his site out of curiosity, and he was so nice and shot me back an email and even mentioned the Green Bay Packers, because I live in Wisconsin. R.I.P Glenn. Saw Tull four times. Twice with Glenn.
One of the better bassists from back in my day. I hate to see this happen as it inevitably must. Glenn and Clive Bunker were an unbeatable team.
Glenn's mum seems such a wonderful and charming person, "give me a kiss", "behave", I love this sequence.
And I love her gracious and lovely smile...it affects me every time I watching this.
Jethro Tull's original and greatest bassist. Tull lost a lot when they let him go. His bass playing was never matched by anyone else in Tull. R.I.P. Glenn Cornick, you were fantastic.
devilsreject70 very well said!
yeah, that's the truth. Hammond took his place but he wasn't good
@@fabiocollina I beg to differ. Hammond was very good. Also Dave Pegg ... his playing on "A" was top-notch!
@@robertkaye5434 yes, Hammond was skilled indeed but his feeling imho wasn't so much good. The best on bass for J.T. was Glascock
@@fabiocollina I'm with you on this one; Jeffrey wasn't a great bass player - his bass lines were written for him and he learned them by rote - he was great on stage though. I think JT had three truly great (and very different) bass players; Glenn, John Glascock and Dave Pegg, although I always think of Peggy as first and foremost Fairport's bassist and that his best playing is with Fairport. Glenn was perfect for Tull at the time he was in the band. John Glascock was uniquely talented and so important to the albums he played on - they would have been significantly different without his bass lines.
I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Glen when he lived in California. Always the English gentlemen. A great bassist and a great man.
I befriended Glenn back in the 90s in Long Island at a Tull convention.. we continued our friendship over the years and had the pleasure of having him spend a weekend at my house in NJ… miss you my good friend… till me meet again….
An awesome contribution to the underground music scene some 50 yrs ago. Thank you Glenn and Jethro Tull.
🙏
Still one of my all-time favorite bass players.
Nicely crafted tribute to an essential part of the early Jethro Tull sound. Loved his headband trademark and the fact that he visibly seemed to really enjoy playing. Great to see him remembered so fondly.
Belated thanks for this tribute. Had the honor of meeting Glenn at a concert followed by a Tull Convention in NY. I was standing in the back of the theater watching Tull perform. Noticed the guy standing next to me was none other than Glenn Cornick!! Shook hands and said how much I appreciated the music of Tull, particularly the earlier works. He said thanks and noted it was a pity that Ian's voice had gone. Saw him perform with other members at the convention. Incredibly nice guy. RIP
My dad saw Jethro Tull play The Warehouse in New Orleans in 1970. He stood right in front of Glenn. When telling the story of the performance I always heard of the “bassist with the headband “ that was fantastic. Now I can put a name to a face...and headband.
Glenn was one of the very best I ever saw. Plus he was as good live as he was on record. Classically beautiful.
Early Jethro Tull was beautiful magic.
A date took me to the Top Rank in Southampton around 69/70, to listen to a Flute player. I wasn't too enthused as it sounded too folky for my taste. Suddenly Ian Anderson leapt out onto the stage .. like a mythical woodland being and I wasn't totally entranced by him and his band...thank you.
Jethro Tull was at it's greatest from 1968 to 1972. Happiest times to be alive
I said that yesterday to my brother.
@@PauliePinch13 The Beatle - Led Zeppelin - Deep Purple = Pinl Floyd - Jethro Tull - The Moody Blues etc. THIS WAS THE GREATEST ERA.
What a great bass player, totally underrated and the backbone of the very best of Tull.
The best Bass player JT ever had. He was the reason I wanted a Gibson bass so much. A critical part of the early JT success. Superb player
Glenn kept up Ian's musical complexities True musician!! "Oh Glenn"
Glenn was a giant. He stands alone on his pedestal.RIP, my brother.
Glenn and Clive were the rock that Tull was built upon. They were the foundation
of everything that the band had originally created. Together they were as good as any
rhythm section, ever! I got to see them for the first time in 69, and live, Glenn was as much of the show as Ian! So animated!!!
Glenn was an excellent bassist. RIP.
Glenn was a charismatic character in Jethro Tull. He also looked cooler than anyone else in the band.
He was kind enough to communicate with me over several emails. He told me he was almost named Alastair instead of Glenn. RIP I loved your music. You saved my life.
Glenn Cornick a couple of months ago, Jack Bruce a few days ago and Carl Radle a number of years ago; we've lost some great bass players over the years. Thanks to them for their artistry and commitment to the instrument, an inspiration to many of us.
Thanks for that ! great tribute to the man ,it was like my chilhood moved by on me!in that selection of songs ,see now why i loved JT so much, it was for the love of his bass playing! saw him do his stuff 3x times soul warmer this is! RiP
Glenn was a true innovator in his very creative bass playing.
Hail Glenn Cornick a true musicians musician and master of the bass, farewell!
Anderson is a brilliant musician and the band had several great versions, and all the bassists were always terrific. But Glen was a truly rare artist with a unique voice that gave a special quality to that original line up. And in many ways it was never equaled.
Very creative, very fluid bass player. He deserves very much this tribute!
Excellent tribute video. Glenn was such a unique and tactile bassist. Free-spirited and melodic.
He and John Glasscock are my favorite Tull bassists. RIP, gentlemen, and thank for the music.
Great tribute to a wonderful bass player, even by the high standards of Tull Glenn was a great musician, brought a tear to my ancient eye!
I love Glenn's parents!
So do I!
Tull isn't Tull without this fantastic bassist Glenn C.
I first saw Glenn in 1970 and was blowned away with his body movements as he played his bass
The soundtrack of this beautifully made video proves what an integral part of Tull's music Glenn Cornick was. His bass playing personified the music every bit as much as Ian's flute. Living in the Past, Bouree, and the other songs in this video demonstrate how vital Glenn Cornick was to this band. And he seemed like such a fun, cool guy! RiP Glenn.
I emailed Glenn about 15 years ago, and he wrote back. He was so cool. I loved his bass playing. I'm a huge Tull fan.
An absolute gent and top bassist, his stint in Tull should have been as long as Martin
a fantastic bassist who has left a great body of fine work for us to enjoy forever
yes
Gruß ins "Netz"
First saw Tull not long after Glenn's ejection but managed to find him eventually around spring of '74 on one of the last Wild Turkey gigs in Portsmouth. Just brilliant!!
Glen didn’t just play Bass he was the master. Great style and technique. Thank you for the tribute video. Musical memories from one of the most innovative bassist to play the instrument... R.I.P.
Tull went through a lot of different styles which I loved for all sorts of reasons but Glenn's bass was such a part of that early Tull sound, from his stand out solos in such songs as Bourée and Living in the Past to his solid work in so many of the songs from This Was until his removal from the group. A damn shame that he went though I remember that "reunion" that the original four did at the start of the 2000s. Good vid.
What a wonderful tribute ❤️ you all have made here. Glen was one of finest bassists in modern music! I say he played A's melodic' style; not unlike,oh, say Paul McCartney. What footage. R.I.P. G.C. Peace& wellness out, H
Benefit is the greatest Tull album ever recorded, beautiful tribute to Glenn!
Great, fantastic videos, fantastic playing by Cornick! Rest In Peace, Glenn, thank you for your playing and your part in Jethro Tull. Love that Dharma For One clip.
I love everything Tull has done, but for me, Benifit is my favorite album. I never saw Tull live, but I did see Glen’s solo band
Wild Turkey, it was a good show, he was a great bass player!
Back in the early 70's my room mate was a drummer. He turned me on to Jethro Tull. Benefit was a favorite. Saw them 3 times. One of the greatest bands of ALL TIME. So unique so talented. Living in the Past, what a great tune. Brings me back to my youth.
What a GREAT compilation. When I did the Roots To Branches album Martin got tired of me asking "Glenn Questions" every day!!
I'm watching this again and feeling very happy to see him and to hear him play, but I'm simultaneously very sad in realizing that he's no longer with us. But he will always be with me in my heart as an inspiration as I study and try learn the bass. Thank you.
Glen was such an incredible bass player and musician. I still think his bass solo on Bouree is the best of rock and roll. Glen, thanks for your music and may you rest in peace.
It was indeed a nice solo and usually bass solos don't need to happen, but because Glenn was so creative and talented, it worked out really well! I spent a couple of hours back when I was 18 learning that whole song, solo included. Loved playing it over and over again.
Thanks for this....was fortunate to see Tull's first US tour in San Francisco, March 1969. Always loved what Glenn C brought to the band. He and Clive Bunker were a dynamic rhythm section!
I have the two Wild Turkey albums . They are great . Glenn wrote most of the songs but not all .
Twin lead guitars , they must have sounded like The Allman Bros. in concert . With Glenn's
great bass playing . A Welsh Berry Oakley !
R.I.P. Glenn,
Thank you so much for your life, art and, talent.
What you left behind to bless all us who enjoy your contribution to this reality.Yourself and Jethro Tull were, was, and are a huge impact on my life for over 40+ years.
Blessing to your family.
Peace
what a great bassist and a good guy!
Always a gent and kind to the fans, Glenn you are much missed & you'll always remain a big part of Tull history.
To Ian and the Jethro Tull family my deepest sympathy; we need to smile through the sorrow because Glenn would have wanted it that way we were blessed to have enjoyed his presence for a while his bass playing was unique and.his style is unsurpassed in.the library of bass players.
Thank you for this wonderful video, God Rest his soul. I hope he has a wonderful time in the afterlife after all the joy he brought to everyone who ever listened to a tull song or saw him on stage. Love
I was put off by his look at first...the hippie headband etc...being a bass player myself it was only recently I went back and listened to his work and realized just what an awesome bass player he was...rip Glenn I will always appreciate you from now on
i loved JT! they were GREAT musicians. one of the reasons i took up the bass is because of G. Cornick. he was a MONSTER talent! thanks for the post!
Glenn had it all, in terms of a bass player. He was very solid, his parts were interesting and actually made it feel like the songs really moved! Very sad to learn of his passing. He was a cool and friendly dude and knew how to groove. RIP Glenn Cornick
Yes, indeed GREATEST BAND IN THE WOTLD! THANK YOU IAN You guys ROCK
Seen several times in the early 70’s
Love this !! Always takes me to where my heart was at total peace
Glenn left the band after conflicts arose because of artistic differences with Ian Anderson. IOM the group was never the same. For me Benefit and Stand up are the only two albums that are worth listening to. I was just starting college when Stand up was released and we played it Non stop till the grooves were worn out. Glenn was more of a creative force in the group than anyone realized. Sorely missed.
Interesting comment. All of us, including musicians need to move on to grow. Benefit and Stand Up are two of my favorite Tull albums, but hardly the only ones worth listening to. Anderson and Barre continued to grow and had a great run before their creative wells ran dry. Sadly, without a nice tribute video like this, only die-hard fans of JT would know who Glenn was and almost certainly, most of the views here are the die-hard Tull fans.
theres a few albums you might want to go back and listen too
Concur.
Benefit is one of my favorite albums of all time.
@@jdnlaw1974 Stand Up is one of my favourite albums of all time...
Indeed, my musical interest in Tull faded when Glenn was sacked. Amazing bass work!!!
Now there’s a guy that clearly enjoyed his time down here! RIP good fellow!
Two years later ...haven't changed my mind..one of the finest Rock Bassists in history...Glenn Cornick !!
Nice tribute vid. Thank you for posting it. I discovered Tull long after they had been popular, when I got a copy of Stand Up, and it blew my mind. As far as Cornick's playing, I once saw a thread on a bass guitar forum and the consensus was that the bass line to Living In the Past was one of the best recorded in rock music. A grandiose statement, naturally (as a lot of superlatives tend to be), but I think it was pretty accurate. RIP Mr. Cornick.
When I was a kid, this music inspired me to take up cello and quickly afterwards bass. And, you know, all those kinetic photos in Living In The Past. My oldest brother bought it when it was released. I love Glen's playing. Thank you for the tribute
Glenn was a huge influence on me as a bass player.
Still very sad, loved his Bass playing and he will live on forever in that great music !!! you grow up with this great music in the late 60s to the 70s and slowly you start seeing them pass away !!! Live is so short !
Life is a long song but it ends too soon for us all
Prog X
in no
Teacher, the song that hooked me on Tull. Nothing is easy sealed the deal. I can listen to this anytime .
Great tribute to Glenn. He was great.
Wow!!! Thank you for posting this! I was just thinking about Glen this morning! Watching Tull concerts on You Tube. He was part of maybe the greatest musical group ever! Ever!!!! R.I.P. Yes! I did see him with Tull!
One of my earliest musical influences when I was developing technique. The man was a bass genius on a very small list!
Living in the Past bassline. Doesnt get any better.
Glenn and Clive. That’s my Tull rhythm section.
I saw Tull first in 69 and "Stand Up ",Benefit ",and "This Was" will always be my favorites.
His "Bouree" is the reason I wanted to play bass guitar. Never saw a picture of Glenn with the same bass, lol. He must have had quite a collection.
nice tribute too. Jethro Tull my favorite's band since 1968 and for ever now...
Me exactly - from 1968 till forever.
Glen was my favorite bass player for Jethro Tull. Benefit was my favorite album.
It's always so sad to lose a member of a great band that we all enjoyed listening to and seeing in concert. RIP Glenn Cornick.
Wonderful tribute to one of the great bass players of all time. Plus pure gold from 1.47 to 2.47: Tull with David O'List!
I am so delighted to have stumbled on this. It captures Glenn's contributions, and is so beautifully edited, giving the listener the essence of so many of their songs, without abrupt transitions, and making such good use of obscure video (film) footage. And yet, Jethro Tull is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (shame).
Great video, I've been a Tull fan for many many years, seen them in concert not enough times and really liked Glenn's playing. He and Clive DROVE that band !! RIP Glenn.
Love this tribute. Glenn is an old bass hero of mine. Thanks for posting.
