This album totally holds up still in 2022.
We all know how talented Ian Anderson is yet, can't help feel that the production values on this album is tainted by the eighties synth pop fad. But that just what I hear. I enjoy the song "Broardsword" yet how more majestic would have real horns have sounded instead of that synth and look I have been playing synth for decades..I just don't like the eighties.
2024 here. Amazing album. This April I'll see Jethro Tull in Sao Paulo.

I have an overwhelming urge to role up a D&D character to this music!
We did - the mad Jethrogs and the sword-loving (Humakti) Tullogs.
Then the GM introduced the farming civilians - Kellogs.

I cant believe this level of quality came out 14 albums in! I'd have assumed a band would be burned out/just cashing in by then, but no. This is like a really great combination of classic Jethro Tull with 80s synth. I love this!

Excellent album, the synths are atmospheric and have dated well.
Jethro is sounding great, hard to find good musuc in the 21st cenrury, nothing is improved.

Word, I'm sorry I missed out on this (well, to be fair, I wasn't born till 86!)
But yea, this album is amazing. Lots of great compositions, and that album cover is one of my favs. Very detailed. And is that the head of each band member in the four corners?
Been a fan of Tull since I first heard Aqualung when I lived in Korea as a teen back in 71 at Pusan American High School dorm. Saw the band in the mid 70's a couple times, in the 90's then Ian and his new bandmembers a few years back. Never heard this albumn before, it's great!

A great band, with many truly amazing songs by the brilliant, naughty, sublime Ian Anderson. Broadsword gave me goosebumps - it speaks to my Nordic ancestry. Now off to find a sword, shield and longship.
Same, Broadsword is a big reason I come back to this album.
It just has a really powerful, cinematic feel.

yes... same here (1st time learning this existed) But then again, when this was released, I had moved out on my own, and having 2 jobs..didn't allow too much time for music. I've been rediscovering artists I loved in the past. I'm really liking this!

This is nice, but most of their 70s stuff is _much_ better.

Saw them on this tour. Been a huge fan since 1976 (played a bi-centenial show in Tampa Statdium. Prog-Rock pioneer since Aqualung.

¿El mejor, mejor...? Eso es muy difícil de decir sobre cualquier banda; pero, desde luego, en cuanto a creatividad y calidad musical se trata muuuuuuy pocos están a su nivel. ¡Y aún siguen en activo! Aunque ya sin el gran Martin Barre.

This music unfolds like a picture book full of stars, where birds come chirping, spinning farandoles, cracking rattles and dancing wizards. From rounds to nursery rhymes, the arrangements display their mystery, the songs fill with fervor and the instruments have the roundness and brilliance of chimes 🌺🕊️

This is truly a great JT album I was never aware existed. I love the driving beat, the flute & synthesizer work, Ian Anderson's epic vocals. It all comes together quite well here!

It's impossible not to be moved by Anderson's voice. He is a master of singing. Sublime!

I'm a fan of Tull just discovering all of their catalogue. This is my first full fun through of this album. I am 5 songs in and this is already one of my favourite albums of all time! Absolute joy to listen to!

I was a steward at a small music festival in central England a few years ago and I had the extreme pleasure of greeting and shaking the hand of Martin Barre. A unique guitarist and a gentleman.
I had the pleasure as well. Martin is such a humble guy despite being a true LEGEND on his assortment of axes. I snicker in company when other names are flippantly tossed about as guitar God’s. I always tell them, “Gee you settled on some low standards”. They got 60 years of catalog and new music still shredding out?

Really great album! I'm a sucker for Dave Peggs bass playing; here he is so solid and innovative, always great bass sound too, both live and in studio. Also great to hear Gerry Conway drumming on a whole JT album.
Anyway, he was replaced by Paul Burgess for the last leg of the tour because the band needed a more sophisticated drummer for the more complex songs of Jethro's catalogue.
It is the album where Pegg plays all mandolins together with all the bass parts.
Best album cover art. The music ain't too bad either.

My favorite JT album, it was a great album in 1982 with the ten songs and it is much better with the bonus tracks, i love the albums when JT used martin barre more than the usual, and i love the modern day version of JT, cheers and thanks.

JT No tiene ni un solo tema malo, todo cuanto ha hecho ha sido bueno.
Martin Barre was a brilliant guitar player, I love his tone and his solo's were so well crafted shredders could learn a thing or 2 about not blowing your wad on every solo and actually creating something with some thought and meaning behind it, something they can evoke feeling and emotion.

I was 14 when this came out and I got it for Christmas from my cool uncle Keith who had already got me into Led Zeppelin, Cream and King Crimson. I made a cassette tape of the vinyl LP and took it into school to play on my Philips tape player and none of my mates knew what the hell to make of it. They were all into Saxon. Oh, the good old bad old days.
