Fabulous Violin Concerto. Listen to that violin cry! So beautiful and just as great as Tchaikovsky and Sibelius imho. Nicola just adds such timing and beauty to this piece. Envelopes you with such emotions. Bravo
It sounded beautiful to me......I listen to this in my car . Such a talent ........and home grown too , and being so easy on the eye rounds it off beautifully.
When the world is going down the drain as it is today with political issues, this makes me feel a sense of calmness and contentment, korngold's music is and always shall be a beautiful voice in a sea of world madness.
He was Jewish so Germany/ Austria gave him little credit and performances dried up. He was already writing in an unfashionable style for the snobbish musical intelligencia - then he went and did the worst thing imaginable ( from their perspective ) - he got rich writing film music. When I was uni (80s) the music lecturers lampooned R. Strauss. Dread to think what they'd have said about Korngold. Shameful neglect for the most underrated composer of the last 200 yrs.
Thank-you for sharing Korngold's history. How sad. This music is so close to perfection it always brings tears to my eyes. I guess knowing his story makes it a bit more precious.
@@elgar104 SO true. When I was in post grad composition, they were laughing at Korngold, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Williams, Puccini. Anyone who could write a tune... Because, they honestly could not.... SO I used to argue them down to the ground every day I was in there that the subject came up. I mean seriously, get the hell out of here. Until they can write such masterpieces as these guys and especially Richard Strauss or Ravel with their incredible orchestrations to boot, they have no leg to stand on. Not even a toenail's worth of talent in all of them at uni compared to one of these guys. We would all be lucky to have a fraction of that outpouring of ideas.
It seems like she deliberately chooses to avoid using her mute even when it is specified by the composer. She seems to do this quite often. I wonder why. Not criticising just an observation
+jonatan black - keep your wig on. And don't presume to know me on the basis of a tweet. One of us has a music degree and has studied the violin for over forty years, and one has not. If I choose to pick up on a flaw it's a free world. What you think about that is of no interest to me.
She doesn't play what is in the score. I think it's a memory lapse on her part. A momentary thing. .. if you are genuinely curious and want the specifics you will want to buy the violin part and check it out for yourself....

Nicola Benedetti is a violinist at the peak of perfection. Such control and emotion makes one's heart soar!

Korngold: Music like no other. One of the greatest of all violin concertos performed by one of the greatest of all contemporary violinists
A brilliant performance
Amazing!! 😍
Never heard this before - it's really good!
Beautiful, and the music was great too.
My second favorite concerto, my future work will be inspired by this, tchaik and sibelius vcs
Please inform me if you write/wrote this!

Followed by "Gluck, das mir verblieb" Brilliance!
💗🌹🥰 Go Nicola Benedetti
Love Robin
why she is perfect???
Why is Korngold so neglected ?

6:34 - a fairly major mistake. Naughty Nicola. You get away with it because so few know this fantastic gem....
Are you kidding.... That's a minor slip if anything.

I can't here it. Can you please tell me what it is? I'm curious.

Ok thanks. I wouldn't have known. And oh my goodness I meant hear. lol. Anyway, I can just look on IMBD.
So, so many of her high notes are out of tune. Really this is not very good.
what a small person you are! instead of focusing on a few notes why not hive credit for the beautiful playing.
Clearly you are wrong, because if what you say were true, her career would be over.
I prefer Hilary Hahn !
The performance is good, but not great...3rd movement is very rough and crappy....Gil Shaham is my favorite and Hilary my next.
