No matter what the Moab police had done, Gabby would have gotten back in that van with Brian. The only thing that may have stopped the final event would have been Gabbi heading home when she had the van in her possession without Brian. Such a terrible shame. Her parents and family have all my sympathy.
Agreed. The parents are just looking for someone to blame since her killer killed himself. She had the opportunity to get away when the police separated them, but she didn’t. She would have been alive had she just left.
U are 100% right. U can see it in her face how much she loved him and how she was taking the blame because she didn’t want him in trouble. When u are controlled like she seemed to be, you are so far gone with your self worth that you will do anything to be with your abuser. Because they can heal you temporarily, at least u feel that way . They give u what u desperately want, their love and affection, then take it away with vengeance. And the cycle repeats. The police could have taken her from him but she very likely would have found her way back to him. I know because that’s what I did. Now maybe Gabbie wouldn’t have gone back and been stronger than most abused woman. But statistically, it’s unlikely 😢
How does a person that brutally murders their own parents let out into society like nothing happened?!? 😢 so sad lori crossed path with such monster, may her rest in peace & God give her mother strength ❤
I get that the police in this case didn’t follow protocol and the outcome was tragic. However, had they arrested Gabby, which is who would’ve been arrested based on the evidence, she would’ve been released the following morning with a court date. Nothing about that would’ve saved her life. There was something wrong with his mentality. Those police officers showed mercy to a young couple having a dispute on a road trip. Having them demonized for being kind is such a reflection of current society’s inability to look at an entire situation. Instead, we crucify those that are placed in a position that they must face these things daily. Gabby’s closest friends and family didn’t see the dangers. Utah police are probably the nicest officers you’d ever meet. Had the outcome been different those officers would’ve been praised for there good deeds. Let’s blame the one responsible, Bryan is the one to blame.
You might be right. A police record would not have helped them either although I grieve for Gabbys family and friends. I am married to a narcissist sociopath. It has been an ongoing education. It was counseling that helped me see what I was up against. When we are in grief at this senseless tragedy we can assume other steps would have made the difference. I do believe Brian Laundres family are the ultimate enablers. It is possible that they should face some kind of charges. However it has been my experience that the more I tried to fix the situation with my husband the worse it became. I wish part of the equation was not someone being charged. It is possible that would have escalated a really dangerous situation with them being on the road. With her not knowing the danger she was in I am not convinced that other approaches would have had better results. She really needed good counseling to let her know the danger she was in a place where it was not available. I am not 100 percent sure of this. I remember the blame game I did in my relationship. It was a long journey that took decades to play out and counseling.
It’s also so easy to “Monday Morning Quarterback” the officers. We have the full story and can look back with shoulda, coulda, woulda. After all Gabby told the cops that she hit first. Laundrie said he grabbed her face causing a scratch. The cops were formally investigated. They got written up for not making a more complete report and for not contacting 911 operators. Unfortunately, even with calling for 911 account, the eye witness said “To be fair, he (Brian) pushed her”. Not quite the hitting that was first reported. That correlated with Brian’s statement to to the cops. The Report about cop’s actions also said that an arrest or citation should have been given to Gabby. If arrested she would have been released the next day. There is another factor that plays a part and probably wouldn’t happen today. We now know that social media creators often put out a sanitized, upbeat view into their lives. Today police most likely would question Gabby a little differently since we have some highly visible cases of the woman k*lled like Alexis Sharkey, Badd Barbie, Trey Slesser (Mr. Anime) and so, so many more.
Yep..have read so many negative comments about how the police handled this..u kidding?? Seriously..it may have not happened that week, but I guarantee you. it would have happened..either the next week, or the next month
@truth528 This is why mental health awareness or social workers are needed in police departments. How do they not understand domestic violence? Heck, roughly ~40% of police self identify that DV happens in their families.
The police did the right thing here. We as a society have to educate our girls to ASK and SPEAK UP for our own save. If the police would have arrest him or her, she would have come back to him as soon as possible. Let's teach our girls not to tolerate and accept to be mistreated.
"She's just crazy ..." Ok, that right there is a classic sign of an abuser. When a man diminishes a woman's comments and behaviors as 'crazy,' he is saying that she is not worth listening to because she is unstable. What he is not saying, is that HE made her unstable through psychological abuse. The movie Gaslighting, is a perfect description of this behavior. Watch it, and learn frm it.

I see very often in true crime documentaries that some people meet another person and say they have no friends or family, so people few sorry for them and let them enter their lives and later on end up being killed, stalked, or harassed by the same person. When people talk poorly about everyone be careful because they might be the problem.
Amazing to me that to this day, Brian's parents have never been charged with aiding and abbeding. They totally knew. They knew what was going on, yet completely ignored Gabby's family's frantic calls. Parents only do that, if they are hiding something.
Putting this on the police is ridiculous They separated them for the night and gave the girl the keys to the van. She could have called family drive the car back home. Left the car at an airport and fly back home. It's a great loss but not the fault of police.
Agree, in this case they’re not to blame at all. They responded right away, were patient and nice. They gave her an opportunity to save herself. People are grasping at straws.
She went right back to him after the cop stop because the views and likes for her adventure videos were more important than safe guarding herself. Pretending everything is ok just to keep views up for your social media page is never ok especially when there's abuse in the relationship. RIP Gabby😥
And the fact is that Gabby would have been the one they arrested. They didn’t “miss signs of domestic abuse” she admitted to it. Signs would be if she was saying he didn’t hit her or didn’t mean to. She hit him. And she hit first. I don’t care how frustrated she was, hitting somebody is not the way to deal with it. Leaving that piece of sh*t would have been the correct way to deal with it.
I think you all fail to realize why the police in this case are catching so much heat! And that's because they knew once he (Laundy) had returned home without Gabby that he's the one who did it...🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️yet they let him slip right out letting his mother be disguised as him and then he meaning Brian (dirty) Laundry went and took his own life... and you think it was just coincidence that his parents knew where to look for his damn backpack as well ,taking the coward's way out instead of facing what he had done that's why so many people are angry with the police in this situation!
Yes! Or blackmail him into a serious relationship or marriage by claiming to be pregnant or going on about her self-destructive behavior of drinking herself to death. Poor girl was so needy, but what she should have had was a lot of therapy.
Last story, man that girl tried to trap him and he never showed her any signs of love. It's college and young people are just starting their life. With her saying, for weeks, that she might be pregnant, just tormented him.
Too bad Gabby didn't just grab her car keys, kicked out Brian, call Mom and tell her she's heading home. She'd still be alive This is a cautionary tale to anyone in a similar situation. Don't put up with a guy mistreating you at all! He does anything to hurt you?, you leave him!
Unfortunately things like this is harder in real life when the abuser is someone you'd trust - like parents, teacher, authority, and partners. This can explain why when it comes to domestic violence or abuse in school the investigation would hire a psychiatrist to speak to the victim. At time we tend to gaslight ourselves when the enemy/abuser is someone whom we are supposed to rely on or love or trust.
There is a lot of abuse that isn't physical. It starts with verbal, mental, emotional, spiritual, sexual etc....a tremendous amount of pain and damage can be done without any physical violence. Ya have to get out the first sign of control and manipulation
If you are with someone who isn't treating you right or making things feel unsafe, leave that person right now. Remember you love yourself the most and you are your #1 protector. It's okay to be safe and single rather than being with someone who could ended up killing you.
It's instilled into every human since childhood that they have to have a boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/husband/wife to complete themselves and we need to stop that. It needs to be taught in school and by good parents to watch out for red flags in both relationships and friendships.I It's absolutely fine to be single and sane.
@@muddydog6605 I wasn't raised that way. My parents taught me to be financially independent and to take care of myself. I learned a lot about relationships through others and knew from a long time ago what I would and would not tolerate in any relationship; platonic or otherwise.
U know who the abuser in that relationship was right? Doesnt make what he did warranted obviously. But yes he absolutely should have left her, sounds like he tried many times. Either way it's sad, but both sides need to understand u can't assault me just cause ur viewed as the weeker one etc... he ended up snapping unfortunately and was obviously beyond wrong. But as someone who narrowly escaped a similar situation! Putting ur hands on ur partner can cause an excellent female to snap if she's being abused... and it can also cause excellent men to snap if there the ones being abused.
@@muddydog6605 nobody single dies happy. Let's stop lying to society about that!! How about take accountability and have better character judgment and keep ur hands to urself in a relationship! It's actually pretty simple
Stories like these make me grateful as an adult that my mother was a helicopter parent when I was a child. We were never allowed at sleepovers, never allowed to go places with friebds and their parents without her, never allowed out without my sister so I could watch her. We're alive and well because our mom trusted no one.
A lot of these (c)old cases face trial years later and it always seems to be held at the time of the start of our god-awful global pandemic. 😷 It’s sad bc innocent ppl went to the grave without knowing what happened to their loved ones. I am truly inspired by the mother’s faith and drive to continue to be the voice for not only her daughter, but her whole entire family. ❤
Brian Laundries' letter shows how messed up he was. You do NOT take someone else's life, as 'merciful'. That's up to God Most High, not you. What you do is go get help, if she was injured that badly.
Especially for a twisted ankle or a broken leg or whatever he said happened. This guy legit took time to write a lie before killing himself just to save face. True psychopath.
The story of Gabby was so heartbreaking to watch as she was producing her blog. His “love” was about what he could get from her and how he manipulated her into believing he loved her. The world is a better place without him.
Shout out to parents of that young man who went to prison for life and him for taking full responsibility doesn’t make it ok but better than the Landries
I don't think the officers at the stop can be blamed for Gabbi's death. There is clear compassion. They were really clearly trying to help and understand. I am sure they feel terrible and they shouldn't have to.
The sad fact is even if the police had separated Gabby and Brian they would have instantly reunited. There’s nothing the police really could have done to prevent. Maybe delay.

Ordinarily, in a quid pro quo arrangement, the prosecution would take capital punishment off the table for life without the possibility of parole, and, in exchange for sparing his life, the murderer would give the location of the body. Why just offer life without parole and not try to get him to give up her body? If he doesn't want to cooperate, then it's capital punishment. He either deals or it's no deal.
My guess is that the state knows the defendant isn’t giving anything up. They probably already asked before going to the victims families concerning a deal or potential sentence. I initially thought the same as you but defendants like Ennis find no real value in life, not even his own
Blaming the Moab police is ridiculous. They took the incident seriously and forced them to separate for the day, which is already too intrusive when neither of them wanted to press charges. Couples fight. It's incredibly common. No one could have predicted what was going to happen.
She was trying a little emotional blackmail to make him more serious about their one-sided relationship. The same reason she was texting him about her extreme (alleged) drinking bouts, which if real, could have easily killed her, She was so needy and desperate; I am surprised none of her friends realized that she was a total mess emotionally.
I think the Moab PD did a great job. To blame them is very unfair. Gabbys own family had no clue how dangerous Brian was so how would the police know that just met him?
@@minini5571 I dont believe that anyone said that they were “procedurally correct”; the post says that they did a great job. An “independent investigation” would find procedural violations on a large percentage of police interactions, especially domestics. Following the exact law and procedure in the Moab incident results in Gabby going to jail (as she admits that she was the primary and initial physical aggressor). Judge then has the option to put a protection order in place. That leaves Gabby halfway across the country from home, and can’t ride home with Brian whenever she is released from jail. These are the practical elements that police have to consider and balance in real time. The police are required to use common sense and discretion in a case by case basis. These officers were patient, empathetic, and did a great job.
@@psalms1441 😂😂 not following procedure means they failed to their job properly. Saying they did a “great job” is pure nonsense. The rest of your comment is just as inaccurate. The court does not care whether someone has a ride home and is far away from their family. It doesn’t even come into their decision making.
I was in a similar situation at about the same time. When the police came I was calm and described my problem. My ex portrayed me as mentally ill and was dead calm. They had no desire to see what a psychopath he was. Not only didn’t they remove him they made me stay home with him
The police in Gabby Petito case definitely understood the law. In fact they did the best they could with the information they had. This is definitely not their fault. Not every situation falls under the direct letter of the law. Police have to have the ability to evaluate and use their discretion to decide what to do. They separated the two for the night and didn't see the need to place either one under arrest. To be quite honest it appears from the information obtained from the traffic stop that if anyone was going to jail it would have been Gabby
Sorry , but Gabby`s case.... the officers separated them for one night. She had the chance to think about it and maybe talk to her parents or a friend to ask for advice, come back home and think if she wanted to go on with this relationship or not. Cops did what they should. They cannot force ppl to say the true or to break up with abuse partners.
It’s not the officers fault. They did an excellent job. Can you imagine if every time a couple got in an argument they were thrown in jail. It’s a horrible tragedy but placing blame on anyone other than her killer is not justice
They said cops had enough for probable cause and to make an arrest. Wouldn't that mean the girl going to jail since she was the one saying she hit him. I think they were doing a favor, they had nothing on him yet at that point.
@@emerkamp1 I m not sure about it, but fact is that they were separated for the night. It was time enough for her to think about the situation, ask for help, advice, etc....
So gabby was apologizing to him for being so mean…..maybe he shoulda grown the F up and been a man , but noooo he was probably another man baby like so many are nowadays.
He was a man; an abusive one. Young love is so blind. This is why I tell my younger girl cousins and nieces to not follow a man to be with them. Go to school, make more friends, be independent, do solo trips. But never ever rely on someone else for your own happiness. Abusive people seek desperate people.
Your comment is not helpful to anyone. When you say someone needs to man up or Be a man... That's called Toxic masculinity. You're judging this guy when it sounds like you can use a little therapy yourself sir. Just saying
It is not as easy as you are trying to make it out to be...especially with defense lawyers and lawsuits. If you haven't lived or experienced what investigators have to deal with, quit trying to act the expert.
Nothing would have changed the outcome even if they Had arrested her for the night. He would have been the one to get her out, hence still on the timeline he did it on….😅💙🇺🇸
I’m sorry, but I can’t believe that they believed Brian! The caller stated that Brian was hitting her. She was taking the blame because she’s afraid of what he would do to her if he got into trouble 😢 Brian…a liar and a coward!
The police did an excellent job of hearing both sides. Protocol says to first identify the primary aggressor, both subjects said that was Gabby. If there were a mandatory arrest at every incident like these, there would be millions a year and the same fools would be saying the police were heavy handed. Thee police get basic training on domestic violence investigations. Internet sleuths, Gabby’s parents (trying to cash in on a lawsuit), and a psychiatrist with thousands of hours of study in domestic violence sitting there and saying that the police should’ve “picked up” every nuance and immediately arrested Brian… is gross.

The first time I ever saw a picture of Gabby, beyond her stunning looks, her beautiful soul was shining through - she was radiant. I could see that she was kind, compassionate, caring, empathetic and I could go on and on. I had no idea who she was or what the story was about, but I instantly felt a sense of peace and I smiled at her picture and thought that her family and friends were extremely blessed to have her in their lives and I wished that I knew her. I’ve never had such a strong visceral reaction and it was instantaneous. I’m not sure why just seeing her photo caused such a flood of intense emotions in me. I intuitively felt like I could connect with her on a spiritual level. Y’all probably think I sound nuts, but that’s what I felt and then to realize why her picture was being shown was heartbreaking. It was when she went missing and unfortunately I immediately knew she wasn’t of this world anymore. I often wonder if my immediate reaction to seeing her was because I was seeing an angel. The warmth and love and graciousness and light were emanating from her image and it gave me such a sense of peace. I don’t think I’m doing a very good job trying to describe this. I do feel like her death is a devastating loss to all who knew and loved her and an absolute injustice to all of the people she would’ve gone on to meet if she’d had a chance to live. I know she would’ve touched them deeply. God bless Gabby and her family and all of her loved ones. I hope you all find peace. ❌⭕️ ❤
The police can seperate you but its your responsibility to leave abusive relationships. Its Not the governments responsibility to know if your family member is in an abusive relationship.

Gabby clearly was being abused by Brian. He told her what to say (& to take the blame) before they were pulled over by the cops. I know because I've been in a similar relationship in the past. I can't believe the cops did not have the sensitivity or experience to realise that. They were compassionate but failed to do their job properly and actually protect the victim.

Love it when they give us these episodes lumped together. I always find one I've not watched...
You are so wrong. The cops did awesome perfect caring job.
That correlated with Brian’s statement to
to the cops.
YES! Self respect and safety need to be taught in schools early. 3rd or 4th grade maybe earlier. Don’t ignore the #WarningSigns!
What platform is it available in?

@@ilovebuttercream7684 yeah, that likely played a part too.

Too bad Brian didn’t just walk away, cool down, and refrain from killing her.

Blaming the Moab police is ridiculous. They took the incident seriously and forced them to separate for the day, which is already too intrusive when neither of them wanted to press charges. Couples fight. It's incredibly common. No one could have predicted what was going to happen.
Why does she want to be pregnant by all means? I feel bad for her but the pressure she put on him is unwarranted and not fair !
A juvenile that murders should be treated as an adult. This girl would still be alive if the law had not protected the killer.
I think the Moab PD did a great job. To blame them is very unfair. Gabbys own family had no clue how dangerous Brian was so how would the police know that just met him?
This is correct.
The independent investigation found that they did NOT follow Utah law or police policy/procedure. Did you miss that part?
Exactly!!
It’s not the officers fault. They did an excellent job. Can you imagine if every time a couple got in an argument they were thrown in jail. It’s a horrible tragedy but placing blame on anyone other than her killer is not justice

One day, he said something very evil, i had the thought "i will live the rest of my days in a psych ward or this man is going to beat me to death with his bare hands". The was my last thought before i grabbed my purse & walked out without saying a word. . I had been trying to leave for 13 years and he would come get me & bring me back, sometimes nicely, sometimes not. God saw fit that he left me alone finally. Thank you Gabby. God bless you and your family. I'm so sorry for her mother. What a beautiful girl Gabby was!
The police should have never took their eyes off of him after he killed his mother and stepdad. That young lady would have been alive today if he hadn't of been set free. That's so sad that her mother couldn't even given her daughter a proper burial. He could at least told the police where her body was. 😢 I hope her and Peanut are in heaven with Jesus together and I hope she's with her dad and brother too. Her poor mother. She has been through a lot. God bless her. I'm so sorry for her loss and the stepsister's that lost their dad too. 😢❤❤❤
Makes you wonder how many cases don’t get justice because someone just didn’t care to open results. That poor momma 😢🙏🏼💔
These people who say "oh, he was just so sweet, a great guy!!" Make me sick.
Heartbreaking! @6:26 they have the same smile. It’s crazy how you see yourself in your children.
Rick, ole boy, you had heaven placed in your lap to start your life over ... BUT YOU BLEW IT, PAL!
Breaks my heart to see her cry and feel ashamed 💔
In my opinion, the justice system failed. This could've been prevented 100%!! I understand it's different//difficult when it comes to minors. But, Lori's death was preventable!! Her poor Mama. Breaks my heart. She had so much more life to live.
Sending so much love to Lori's family, friends and loved ones. Peanut too!!
❤❤❤
Rest easy and fly so high Lori!!
How absolutely saddening:( Prayers sent ✝️
Suing the police, that's called American greedy! The couple was so deceiving. The police handled this situation the best way they could.
Thank God That She Have New Friends That Care About Her, And The Officer That Brought Justice To Her Daughter, May They RIP
He's guilty as hell.
Notice when he was asked in court if he killed Lori how he answers:
"I did..I did not." He even shortly nods yes before correcting himself.
First story is tragically sad. 😭
Gabbie could have left when she had the van and they took him to the motel room. She could have saved herself..I guess she couldn't recognize the signs of dv either.
It's a very sad shame that Allie can't just let it go. Let him go. She's certainly got a lot to offer the right young man. She just has these unnecessary attachment to the really wrong guy.
