    Stumbled across your channel a month ago and have watched every video since. Massive thumbs up for the no nonsense maintenance tips and tricks, and not trying to sell me stuff I dont need. Thanks from the UK. Keep up the good work.

    Hi I have a lectron H series carb on my YZ295 and I got fuel dumping out of what I think is the power jet vent tube when on stand reving it out, do you know if there are any internal o-rings or blockage that might cause this issue?

    I think there is a company called Thunder Products that makes a Power jet for the Mikuni/Keihin.

    Solid video, excellent explanation. I just clean my Keihin an it screams. I run a Suzuki needle on my KTM, and it's great. Thanks Morgan 👌

      Thanks for the informative video!
      The Lectron is great for me here in Colorado, as I can ride from 4K elevation in Utah to over 12K elevation here in CO, with temps from freezing to 90F and it works well without having to mess with it, and I am admittedly lazy - I know how but prefer to not work on carbs any more than I have to. I agree 100% with Morgan of course. My 300 with a Lectron is not quite as crisp as my buddy's 300 with a JD kit/ Jarvis modded stock carb, but It is very close, all with me never having to touch it, while my friend is often changing his jetting for our varying riding conditions.
      Both Lectron and Mikini equipped 300s feel more on their toes and snappier off the bottom than the stock TPI XC and XC-Ws I have ridden. Whether or not that is a good thing is a whole different topic, some like the sharper initial response of a carb (I do). I mention this as back to back with the stock carb, a dialed Lectron is not "soft" but it is just not quite as tack sharp as the dialed stock carb, but sharper from closed throttle than a stock TPI.
      For me the Lectron was a tradeoff worth making. I most definitely would not spend the money on a Lectron (or Smart Carb) if I did not have such widely varying riding conditions. My 300 with Lectron has an S3 head and VForce reeds on it, nobody would accuse it of being lazy in any way (the bike is snarling beast), the difference in response I noticed vs. my friend's dialed stock carb bike is pretty slight. Of interest, my buddy's dialed stock carb is slightly more fuel efficient than my Lectron. Not a huge difference, but notable as people like to tout the Lectron's fuel efficiency.
      More Lectron observations - I love the clear bowl. The build quality is a bit lacking compared to the stock carb though, the cable it uses is "meh" and the stock spring it comes with is stupid stiff - running the softer accessory spring with the Lectron. A plus is no clog prone pilot jet - Also have never had any float seat issues with the Lectron in 3 years of use.
      Would I do a Lectron again? I dunno. Fixing the stock KTM Mikuni carb is so well understood (it wasn't when I bought my '18) and easy, I likely would just save the cash. Too lazy (seems to be a theme with me) to remove the good working Lectron though, and still have my unused stock carb in a box. Perhaps when I sell the bike someday, I will dial the stock carb in and sell the Lectron separately. That day is hopefully not coming soon, as I love my carbureted '18 300 XC!

    ..I have a Lectron on my ktm 08 200.. definitely rich per their settings and leaned up some 1/4 turns to run crisp.
    The biggest benefit has been my summer riding - 3k at home to 8-9k+ within a couple hrs drive and I never have to tune the carb.
    Also the Lectron guys have always been nice with questions or when I sent the carb to them for routine service.
    Great vid and explanation!.. 👍...

    Hey Morgan, Hope you are well? I have a KTM 300 xcw 2017 fitted with a lectron, I have the 4-2m metering rod in and currently set at 50.04mm it runs great mid to top but the bottom still feels a bit lean....I did just fit a gnarly...would that be the reason?

    I have a circa '12 lectron sitting on a shelf and no need replace the keihin on my 300rr. I pulled that older lectron off my '12wr300. I might use it on a '86 rm250. Anyways can you expand on your older style vs HV lectron talk. I liked the older style lectron on my wr300 except for an occasional fuel starvation issue. It didn't happen a lot but would pop up on long Sandy straights and extended hilly ups and downs. Not sure why? Give it about 20 or 30 seconds and it would be fine. Float too low? Any ideas?

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 роки тому

      To the HV is a little too rich on the bottom and hard to tune out. The old style was just butter smooth. I never had a problem with fuel delivery.

    • @highlandcycles

      I would look at the float level for sure.

    Hey man, I have a lectron on my 2018 Te300. I bought mine through slavens and it came very rich on the bottom. Leaned it out 2 full turns and runs great. However, after purchasing it I came across the "jarvis" mods for the mikuni carb and I do agree that it is snappier off the bottom. I still run the lectron currently, I guess it doesn't hurt to have a badass back up well. Keep up the vids brother, awesome content!!!!!

    • @craighoffman6876
      @craighoffman6876 3 роки тому

      Same here, Lectron from Slavens, it was way rich, (4-1 rod) runs great after leaning it until it was too lean, then richened it from there, and it is dead on.

    I started out with the Mikuni on my 2017 KTM 300 and didn't like it one bit. I let the internet convince me it was absolute trash and then I discovered the jet block and needle seat O-ring issues. Once I replaced those and picked up the JD jetting kit the bike was running 95% better than it ever had. I think the majority of the bad mouthing of the Mikuni came before the jet block gasket failure was so well known. I know people still complain about it not being great in terms of temp and altitude change and I can't really speak to that as I mainly ride at sea level, but I feel like it could be people splitting hairs about performance aspects they think they can feel because they read some crap on the internet as well. Just my thought. I tried the Lectron HV 38mm carb when I was having so much trouble with the Mikuni and liked it, but felt it was a little too smooth in the power delivery. I know they have since introduced the new "H" series which is suppose to pack 20% more punch throughout the range and I'd be very curious to see first hand how that carb compares to the HV and the Mikuni. Costly venture however. Keep up the Shlog vids Morgan, stoked on the content.

      Jason Keddy thanks man. Yeah, the mikuni is good once you fix a couple cheap things. I have found that they aren’t as sensitive as people say. I have ridden mine from 4K to 12k without changing anything and it doesn’t bother me.

    I have a question that isn't talked about much... Now it's winter and some of us refuse to park the bike bc of snow and ice... What are your thoughts on blocking off a radiator on the front side so no air flows through to keep engine temp up?.. I do it on my husky TX 300 to keep from a possible cold seized.. I tell alot of fellow riders and 98% of them think I'm nuts.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 роки тому +1

      It really depends on what you are doing. If you are riding trails at relatively low speeds I don’t think it’s required. If you are going fast on a lake or getting lots of snow on the radiators then it’s a good idea. I had a shield for my 300 when I had a snow bike kit on it. But I never put anything on my YZ with spikes on the tires.

    • @compoundcowboy277
      @compoundcowboy277 4 роки тому +1

      @@highlandcycles thanks for the reply... I mainly ride supper slow stuff w spikes. I keep a very close eye on my radiator fan gauge. My temps normally run 110-130*F w/o a shield, that's 30deg temps and 1-2gear all day.. once I block off one side my temp holds around 160-180*f.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 роки тому +1

      Compound Cowboy that sounds like it’s keeping the temp just right. I’ve never had a gauge on my bikes. But I can say that I’ve never seized one in the winter either. I’d say you’re doing the right thing.

  • @terryrasor5495

    Is it really THAT difficult to dial in a normal carburetor? I have an 05 Rm250 that is a woods/single track only bike... I’m a weekend warrior and...man $500 seems like a waste on a lectron for someone like me... but if people think it’s better, makes them want to ride more...cool for them! Maybe when I’m ready you can help me dial in my stock carb?

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 роки тому +2

      I don’t think it’s that hard at all but some people want to “set it and forget it”. I like the crispness of my normal carb more than I like not having to jet the Lectron. It’s all about priorities and preferences.

    run the RM 17/62 needle in your Mikuni.... have run that from a 125 currently and a 150/250. The Radial flatside Mikuni TMXx is really a 125 carb, but have been fine tuned enough for the big bikes after lots of trial and error. I have used all the Smart Carbs and liked them, but have tuned the Mikuni well and like it on my 125. The Keihin/STIC is a whole other animal.
