i was a senior in high school when this came out i vividly remember waiting on my front porch for my best friend and listening to this and every time i hear it it takes me right back to my front porch .
Don't remember the year it came out. Years later, I read they had written the song about a couple of years earlier, and had sat on it. It's good Stones.
This is one of the coolest songs ever, one of my favorite songs of theirs. Your so Cold, Hang Fire, Wild Horses and of course many of their popular songs and Shattered are great.
If you get a chance to check out the actual music video for this song, it is really a good complement to the song. It shows Mick walking along the street and meeting up with the other band members -- the friends he's waiting on.
Great reaction! One of my favorite Stones songs. Little bit of trivia: the stoop that Mick is waiting on in the music video is the same house featured on the cover of Physical Graffiti-96 & 98 St Mark’s Place in the East Village.
I was 12 when this was released and really starting to sink my teeth into rock and roll. I knew the Stones of course, but this was the first new release of theirs that was contemporary to me and it really struck a chord. I loved it then and now.
Part of the genius of The Stones was the way they arranged backgrounds... each song was diff'rent... with each song I said, "How'd they thunk o' that?"
It certainly has that laid back vibe. I can imagine sipping a cool beer on the veranda of a bar in Cuba watching the world go by.. I would recommend 'Can't you hear me knocking' as one of my favourite high energy Stone songs.
Hey Angela 🥰 so glad you enjoyed this classic Stones tune with the great Sonny Rollins on the sax. Oh and your apparel tonight was very appropriate. 🙏🏽✌🏽🌎🌍🌏♥️
I love the implications of this song. About being done with the cheap, meaningless relationships and yearning for something with a lot more substance in-as-where you can actually relate to your partner without all the drama that usually entails between couples. The friend he is waiting for is NOT, contrary to what most believe, a friend he already has, but a new one of the female persuasion.
One of my favorites by the Stones. it's a nice laid-back tune, something that reminds me of a nice summer afternoon when you simply want hang-out and watch the world go by.
There are two ways to interpret this song. One is he's just had his heart broken and he needs the comfort of his male buds. The second is that he has a relationship with a woman who is truly his best friend. I always took it as the first one, but both takes are legitimate.
Yes Angela your one of the first to get it, A Sunday Lazy day. I always Love how you pick up on the subtleties of the lyrics, but mostly one the vibe of the instruments and vibe. Thanxs plz consider some Non Patreon Requests🤠
In the Stones' extensive catalog, "Waiting on a Friend" gets the bronze medal. "Gimme Shelter" gets the silver... and "Tumbling Dice" gets the gold! The jazz great, Sonny Rollins, gives this song the sax that catapults it to one of their best.
I love this song. I used to play and sing this, the chords are simple enough. Only thing was I couldn’t hit those high notes! Angela - the video is also very cool if you ever want to react to it or just watch it on your own.
One of my Top `10 favorite Stones songs...the best line, "A smile relieves the heart that grieves, remember what I said..." Yours is my new favorite music reaction channel...I am a new and happy sub!!!
probably my fav Stones LP...and it's from the mid range of their career but I really like a lot of songs off this LP. I was 12 and bought this and my mom wasn't to happy about it...she never really liked them lol but it was actually my first stones LP 1982 maybe 83 ..but loved it.
Always loved this tune and one of my favs of theirs! Love the horn in this one the way I live the piano in Ventilator Blues but maybe my top Stones song that includes other instrument accents is Moonlight Mile, so pretty with the strings and gives the chills on each listen.
Do "Far Away Eyes" and "Just My Imagination" from Some Girls. The guitar interplay and the backing vocals in Just My Imagination is incredible. Faraway Eyes is their tribute to the Bakersfeild Sound. The whole Some Girls LP is classic Stones
I've never been a very big fan of Rolling Stones. I do like this one a lot though. My favorite one by them, of course, is "Angie". Have you heard that one yet, Angela? So good!
@@terryspak5763 It’s crazy because there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what gets blocked because I have seen reactions to the video version of this song that are not blocked. 🤷🏻♂️
From side 2 of the album Tattoo You The 2nd side of the album was full of great soulful ballads Personally I prefer Worried about you, Tops, Heaven and No use in crying from that side of the album but waiting on a friend shows again the Stones great versatility and multi layered talent
I used to say, "Their last GREAT single," but then I learned that the music was written a decade earlier for the "Goat's Head Soup" record; it just never had lyrics. Jagger finally got around to writing some, and it was a sensible song about simple friendship - the kind of song they NEVER write. Now I say, "It's the last GREAT single that they RELEASED."
@classic life the Mick Taylor years were my favorite by far, and Goats Head was his last album with the group but the albums “Black and Blue and “Some Girls” both have some really good songs. Some Girls alone has “Beast of Burden” “Far Away Eyes”, “Miss You”, and “Shattered”.
With immortal tracks such as but not limited to : Satisfaction Paint in Black Under My Thumb Ruby Tuesday Jumping Jack Flash Sympathy For the Devil Gimme Shelter Honky Tonk Woman Angie Miss You Plus many, many others can’t understand your ‘reasons’ for not being a fan of their music Each to their own I guess, personally I feel they have an incredible catalogue of tracks and are at the pinnacle of popular music. To answer your question the track was leftover from the sessions for the album Goats Head Soup released in 1973. The Stones liked the groove of it but Jagger has said in the linear notes for the compilation album ‘Jump Back’ that he didn’t have any lyrics for it Later with the lyrics by Jagger complete and adding the Saxophone of Sonny Rollins it was included on 1981 Tattoo You album
This song goes all the way back to 1972 and Mick Taylor wrote the guitar for it. The Stones resurrected this tune for their 1981 Tattoo You album but initially didn't give credit to Taylor. Taylor heard the song and called 'em out publicly on it. At some point later, they cut him in for the royalties.
The sax is being played by Sonny Rollins. A true jazz giant.
i was a senior in high school when this came out i vividly remember waiting on my front porch for my best friend and listening to this and every time i hear it it takes me right back to my front porch .
Good times
Don't remember the year it came out. Years later, I read they had written the song about a couple of years earlier, and had sat on it. It's good Stones.
My senior year too, Dwain Deem. Loved it from the beginning.
"A smile relieves a heart that grieves" - overall top notch lyrics and production. A true classic.
The great Sonny Rollins on saxophone.
That is Sonny Rollins on the sax... The most amazing sax solo to me. Love it!!!
This was one of the best songs by the Stones.... ever!
If it wasn't for the song Angie, this would be my favorite Stones song. Just the saxophone alone is enough to make me like it.
Love this song. Another surprise from this versatile legendary band.
This is one of the coolest songs ever, one of my favorite songs of theirs. Your so Cold, Hang Fire, Wild Horses and of course many of their popular songs and Shattered are great.

This became my song for a while after one of my best buds passed. I'll see you in the next world pal'o'mine.
I think we have a new Stones fan among us. Angela, welcome to the club.

This is my favourite R.S. song!
The stuff of Legends..
I really like ending my day listening to and watching DayOne Reacts .....Angela is such a sweet soul
He voice and presentation style (short & sweet) remind me of a radio DJ.
Kings of the background vocals!
It certainly has that laid back vibe. I can imagine sipping a cool beer on the veranda of a bar in Cuba watching the world go by.. I would recommend 'Can't you hear me knocking' as one of my favourite high energy Stone songs.
No stogie for me, I’d smoked J’s to this!
Want to hear a great Stones number? Can’t you hear me knocking!!!
1:46 a smile relieves a heart that grieves
The best song to share some quality time with your buddies.
Thank you for sharring. God bless you. They were my favourite. When i was young. You are fantastic.
Right up there with Lady Jane as one of the great Stones ballads
When you hand dance you make my heart smile. Thank you!

Reggae star Peter Tosh was greeted in the video.
This song is soo nice. Reminds me of when I wait for a friend. Makes you think of your friends.🥰🥰
Angela, there are many song reviewers on the tube but you all have your own "niche" I must say yours are a little different and enjoyable
She doesn’t just react to the hits.

“Thanks Nicky!”

So, so many good stones songs. I think their slower ones were the better ones...like this and Wild Horses and Angie
I watch your reactions. I try to figure out what makes you special, unique, exceptional, and come to the conclusion it is Everything.
Good video to this one too.
Thanks for taking me back in time
Always loved this tune and one of my favs of theirs! Love the horn in this one the way I live the piano in Ventilator Blues but maybe my top Stones song that includes other instrument accents is Moonlight Mile, so pretty with the strings and gives the chills on each listen.
“Ventilator Blues” such a great song with a badass sound!
Love that song, but your smile and reaction was the highlight of this one.
One of their mellower tunes.
Purty girl ❤. One o my fav songs of them.

Bobby Keys on that sax!! May he and Charlie rest in peace. Great reaction as always!
🎷 Sonny Rollins

Few more Stones suggestions - Angie, Bitch, and Lovin Cup.
Love the Stones. Check out " Far Away Eyes " their country song.

Rolling Stones Almost Hear You Sigh. Please React to this one.
You reacted to "Angie" by the Stones, and while this is a good one their best is "Wild Horses".
I never enjoyed that song so much before ~
You have a really good voice. You can sing girl!
Such a nice song hello beautiful person 🎭🌺🎭🌹🧡🌹💋❤💋🌻
nods my head out the window
Of course Mick is lying. He is waiting on a lady.
Great track. Also try Midnight Rambler, the live version.
I recommend Time Waits for No One.
Try Frank Sinatra the way you look tonight
when it comes to a pure rock band, Stones were top 3. Other 2 are Led Zeppelin and The Who IMO.
I used to say, "Their last GREAT single," but then I learned that the music was written a decade earlier for the "Goat's Head Soup" record; it just never had lyrics. Hang Fire was the next single. Definitely didn't fade into oblivion.
@@bartstarr100 Last GREAT single. I'm on the generous side. For many, Goat's Head Soup is their last record.

not a "Stone" fan, at all, for reasons, this is probably my favorite song of theirs....I am curious about how this was written...

In part this is a reaction to a lot of the…guff Mick got for Some Girls.
TRY MELODY FROM THE ROLLING STONES.
Wow you are so cute.

I’m sorry, this has nothing to do with your reaction but, you are absolutely gorgeous 🤷🏼♂️
