I’m curious as to what happened about your jury duty. It seems that you should have been excused. I’m watching this because my daughter is supposed to go but she’s still in high school. I want to find out if she can be excused because she’s still in high school.
Exactly the point about who they don’t want. If you’re going into voir dire and you’re initially seated in the jury box then unless you get picked off you’re on that jury. If you do get picked off then the lowest numbered panelist in the gallery gets your spot. And once they have their jury then those left in the gallery are either sent home / discharged or back to the jury assembly area depending on the rules of the court.
I got a summons a few years ago and had to contact the circuit court in Volusia County to tell them that I don't drive. I can't see well enough to drive. The circuit court contacted my ophthalmologist and I was excused from serving on a jury. I was worried about going to jail for contempt.

Every adult citizen is subject to being called for jury duty. When you are called depends on how many people live in your state. Most states pull the names from drivers license and voter registration records. Except for the attorney exclusion in some states such as Missouri, we are not aware of a way to be permanently excluded. If you cannot serve when called just notify the jury coordinator as soon as possible and ask to be excused. Depending on your reason they may reschedule you for 'next time' or they may drop you from the current list and then you will be picked only by lottery.
I also want a legitimate answer. The fact that you are forced to serve is not a privilege. I understand that you are willing to go, but being forced to go because of a fine and jail time, is not called a privilege... At all.

Can I tell them im scared and uncomfortable judging people? I have anxiety from my PCOS & suffer depression as a symptom of my PCOS but have no note, I can always get one from my doctor but being that I didnt prepare for this day which is later today (Its 5:20am NY I have to be there by 9am today cant even sleep im so stressed out!!!) I have no doctors note right now. I really dont want to be forced to disclose of my medical information either way in front of multiple strangers. I wouldnt mind telling the Judge & lawyers only. Do I have a right to privacy??? Ugh im scared
If you have a medical condition that would not allow you to be able to sit and listen and determine a case then you should submit that information to the jury coordinator in advance. If they require you to appear anyway then you would take that information with you to court. There is really nothing to be worried about. It is pretty boring normally and you are in there and out in a few hours. Best of luck!
FinelyRevealed Thanks so much! After telling them my condition, I wont have to return until 2 years. I’ll definitely have all my medical information ready by then. I appreciate your help & your channel!
My Jury duty wasn't as bad as I thought apart from waiting for them to choose a jury. We were only there for 4 hours but that last hour was hell. I used that tip to have a bias, it was a dwi case. I just said I couldn't be fair cause I don't believe people should be driving knowing they are going to drink. If you're quiet you'll most likely get chosen. Mine seemed easier than other people.
@ihatescreennames89 Really? I don't want to go im scared..... I just checked it in the internet with dose codes that it come in the paper and it appear my name and to log in i did log in but their is a bunch of questions that have to answer in that questioner that i did not answer.....
xxilickbl00dxx1 it was boring and i didn't even get called to serve. So we sat in a room for like 6 and a half hours straight with a lunch break. That was it for me but i was one of the few who didn't get picked. That was just my experience. But yeah
I just got my first jury summons today for a month from now, and I'm excited but a little scared! This video and a few of your others have helped me understand the process, but do I have to disclose if I have ASD, (autism spectrum disorder) and will that get me removed from the jury? I want to participate, I really think it would be a fun and unique experience and I would love to help out in the law in this way, but I'm nervous that if I don't tell I might encounter a problem that would be important for someone to know and help me either with social understanding or overstimulation/auditory processing, but I really don't want to be excluded from a case just because of an ablest stigma.
HI @purristar The only way that issue (ASD) may come up in the voir dire (the questioning of the possible jurors) would be if one of the parties in the case has that or it is somehow involved. Otherwise don't worry- not an issue and no need to disclose private information. Love your attitude !
I got summoned 5 months after I registered to vote at 18. To make matters worse I'm summoned on a week before finals week when I should be studying instead.
@@rubydawn1 I know this is an old post but I just wanted to say you are lucky. I get called every single year and so does everyone in my house.....I live in Florida and I am convinced that it is because people can be excused if they are over 70, are taking care of a child under age 6, are not a citizen or have committed a felony. All of these things are in abundance in Florida. So they use the rest of us to the point it is ridiculous.
Hi @Matt You will be absolutely fine- your comment shows that you are a conscientious person. You can't make a wrong move. Believe it! Watch and listen and don't try too hard. When the instructions are given then review back and go with your gut. Let us know how it goes.
if u dont want to be in jury duty..return form THE DAY IT IS DUE...never send it back right away. you will still have to show up... but I have always been dismissed.
+gotskinn Thanks for the info -good point. Also if someone has a true scheduling conflict then early response might help them at least get bumped to the next time around - and sometimes they'll be dropped from the list for awhile.
Hi Lioness- An 'automatic exclusion' as in you will be outright excused from showing up is doubtful. Once you appear and depending on the case and the questions asked you may be stricken and therefore be excused. If you think your particular circumstance may make one or other side want to strike you then you can 'volunteer' this information either on your questionnaire or during the voir dire (when the attorneys ask questions to see who they want to strike. Good luck!
Wow! Thank you so much for your explanation it was so clearly. I received a notification for Judy duty on July... they already sent me a ticket number will be for 4 days service.
I received a summons that says I have to make an appearance by force because I missed my call in week a week ago. The problem is, this is the first letter I've received. What should I do, I'm going to participate in this summons because I have to, but I want to anyway. But how do I fix this issue? What if they summon me again later on but the same thing happens, I don't want to get a fine or incarcerated just because some jack witt isn't mailing things to my house right.
Hi @Lumpyrumpy please call the jury coordinator immediately. Tell them what you said here - ask for verification of the date and address and manner that the first notice was sent and tell them that you are not avoiding anything- you just receive this and nothing before it. If you had received a prior notice you would have already appeared. It was just some mix up since they seem to have your correct address now.
In my entire life I have been called twice, and both times all I did was sit in a big room and not have my name called. I didn't even get to voir dire... kind of a blow to my self esteem.
Count yourself lucky. Nothing more agitating than missing work just to sit in a loud room and then be told to come back a day or two later, missing yet another day of work.
“You will be called sometime in your adult life-“ Not necessarily. I was in my 50s before I ever received a summons, as I lived in a county where most cases involved car wrecks. The petit jury is very important; the grand jury is obsolete.
HI Kim - you can be cited for contempt of court. We have a video in the jury duty playlist called "why you must obey the jury summons". Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/ng2bcY2G67A/v-deo.html
Well, I'm called to jury duty... if I had a choice not to go, I would choose not to. Being forced to serve is not a privilege. Besides, as a Christian, I'm not allowed to make judgement of any kind because no one is righteous. Techinally, there's already judgement given.
To be excused from service for cause? It may work depending upon the case. I would expect the attorneys or the court to ask some follow up questions first to find out what you mean and how you think it would apply to the case.
Well I don't like companies like Exxon Mobile and Monsanto since they participate in crony capitalism. They can do just about anything they want to our fuel and food and the government will back them up. That's one thing I mean by the elite. Also I disagree with compulsory education, the war on drugs, gun control, foreign intervention, homophobic laws and other junk the government enforces. Putting someone away for killing, raping, stealing makes sense but for not going to school are you serious? That's the biggest issue of mine is the law you have to go to school because of your age and that we said so. I'm a Libertarian and don't think being a juror should be a "duty".
HI Jay- sorry for late response. Yes- jury duty is just going to the courthouse each day (when it is for a trial) or once a week or once a month (when it is for grand jury duty) and listening and watching and then you go home. You have probably heard about a 'sequestered jury'. That is when the jury moves into a hotel and does not go home until the trial is over. A jury is only sequestered in certain situations- usually when there has been a lot of media coverage and the case has some notoriety.
If you said that, and then it turns out that you're serving as a juror for an embezzlement case, the prosecution might literally fall in love with you.
hey, i'm from Europe, why i never hear on the media or on the internet anything about this jury duty in your country? ordinary people, getting called to court, to do justice, woooot? why nobody talks about it? that's insane. Came to this video after i found out about jury nullification, started googling, and now i'm here....
Any time there is a jury trial in the US that means that the case is being decided by a judge and a jury. The jury decides what happened (the facts) and the judge applies the law.
🤦♂️ Man this is embarrassing, people came from Europe to have freedom here in America but that wasn't exactly the case because ordinary people are now being forced to participate in Jury and if they don't show up, they go to prison or pay a fine of $250 to $1500.
I have back pain when I sit a lot, I have anxiety disorder pretty badly. I also homeschool my teen son. I have an autistic daughter in a public school that I need to be readily available to during the day by phone. I have hearing loss and my hearing aides are controlled by my phone. I got a jury summons. I also work part time in medical. I am partial to a lot of things. I am most worried about my daughter and then my son and homeschooling.
HI @Dave On the summons there is usually a phone number or website you are to check to let you know if you need to report on a particular day- sometimes all the cases settle and you don't have to go. Did that help?
@@FinelyRevealed if they state the date and location to appear on the summons that comes, do you have to call ahead or can you just show up? Does one way or the other help the odds of not being picked?
HI @Haloreach66850 You all have to go and it is from the group who is called that the process is followed and the juries for the cases that day are chosen. Sometimes when there are several jury trials starting on the same day the court will take groups to a courtroom and then if they are not put on the jury you will go back to the room until all the cases have juries and then they will let you leave. Hope that helped clarify.
Source list : The list or lists from which citizens are selected to receive a jury summons in California. Potential jurors are selected randomly from the voter registration list and the Department of Motor Vehicles' lists of drivers and identification card holders.
HI @Henry- good question. The one case, one year rule applies so just by showing up on the day you are called- whether you are sent to a courtroom and then included on the jury or sent to a courtroom and stricken for any reason or just stay in the big room and never go to a courtroom it all counts the same - you are done for that year.
@ihatescreennames89 So what do i do with that notice that i recived today that it saids you have been summons for a jury duty what should i do then i mean i dont want problems im just so confused i don't know what they want me to do their i have 2 daughtets and i dont have anyone to babysit them.
Hi Young- You don't have to be placed on the jury as just by showing up it 'counts' as your service. If you stay out of the front chairs you'll probably be one and done! Good luck.
Hi @Daniel yes you understand correctly - the rule is one day/one service. You go on the assigned day and if you are either (a) not brought into the court to be part of the selection process or (b) are brought into the courtroom but the case settles or you are not empaneled - then you are excused and finished for the year. If you are empaneled on the jury then you serve until the case settles or until the case is finished either by the Judge or given to the jury for a decision.
It's investigated. Courthouses have more than enough security to likely catch anything suspicious like that during the time said juror left the courthouse. Either way it would be looked into...there have been situations in the past where family members of the defendant offer a bribe to or threaten a juror.
I'm actually very curious. I understand Jury duty is something within our constitution and a right. But my question is if 51%+ of Americans were to vote in removing Jury duty being required, would the government/Supreme Court agree or go against what the people want and continue to force their citizen in going to Jury duty.
The constitution would need to be changed to eliminate the right to jury trial. Individual liberties and protections are a cornerstone of the county- such a major protection such as the right to a jury trial would not likely be changed just to satisfy people being annoyed due to inconvenience.
If they are forcing you, is it really a right...?...Though, i could see that if you really want to be there, you might see it that way...And as far as it just being an inconvenience, it's way beyond that in many cases, affecting surviving as far as income, and and people with real health and other issues, is more than a minor inconvenience to get there and be there.......
Hi Joe. Food and drink is prohibited in the courtroom and you probably should also ask about gum or hard candy. Water is allowed for counsel and those who are testifying as the throat gets dry from talking. You can usually bring food to have during breaks in the jury room etc. If you are diabetic or hypoglycemic you should tell the bailiff or deputy in charge so that they can store anything you need that requires refrigeration. You will also be given lunch breaks to leave and get lunch and then return.
Question.. what about breaks? I can't sit for long periods and if I have to move, adjust myself will it be disruptive? Sinus issues and how I sound on a daily basis. I don't want to shirk my jury duty but if I have to sneeze, blow my nose, ect. I want to know how that would work. This is my first time. Thank you
Hi @Lynne All good questions. First, don't stress at all. The courts are very generous with breaks for the jury. If you are included on a jury then the bailiff will ask the group about any particular issues- if you are not asked then please tell them. Teh schedule is generally announced each day and each judge has a pattern- always a morning break and always an afternoon break, plus lunch and during evidentiary discussions the attorneys and judge either go into chambers or the jury is excused to their room. As far as disrupting- think of it as being at the movies or a play. No worries at all.
Michelle lost me at the spin. All I remember from this was that it was a summons for me to appear. I don't remember where she said I was to appear? Maybe out of thin air, that would be cool.
+Jonathan Diaz Hi Jonathan. Good question! There are rules on what people cannot wear in court which includes shorts, cut offs, flip flops, bathing suits and the like. Attorneys have a dress code and they will have their clients look nice. For jurors there is not a specific dress code. Most guys wear khakis and a polo or collar shirt. Only a few times have I seen a man wearing a jacket. Some people will wear jeans. As with most situations it is better to be overdressed than under dressed.
Hi @scorpiomaj27 in the US the states Ohio and Pennsylvania have courts of common please - in other states they can be called district courts, circuit courts or in New York they are called supreme courts. They are the basic trial courts where disputes are heard.
Hi AI - not very often. Sequestration was just done in the Bill Cosby case- it happens when there is a lot of media attention. . The trial is to be decided only on the evidence that is presented in court. If the Court believes that it will be virtually impossible for the jurors to not get information put out by the community and the media during the trial and therefore hard to monitor how they base their decision then sequestration will be ordered.
Grand juries are usually done in a series- like every Friday for 6 months. Petit or trial juries are for a designated day that then if you are put on the jury you will come back on consecutive days right then. If it is for a grand jury it will state that and will be from the federal court. (though California state uses grand juries) You can also call the coordinator or clerk on the notice.
Question: can you use a cell phone to text or call at anytime of this process? (not about the case , but things like “let’s go eat here when we leave” to a sibling or partner?)
Good question! Cell phones are kept in the (locked) jury room to use during breaks but are not allowed in the courtroom. They don't want the jurors distracted.
i have been for Jury Duty and I must go a week from now. although a part of me hopes im not picked another part wants to be because its would im worth something especially since I have nothing else going on with my life. the thing im worried about though is what if I dont understand whats given to me or the case in general. if im picked i really want to make the right decision because I'd have someone's life and time in my very clumsy and nervous hands.
HI @Jamall if you want to be put on the jury sit in front when they have you go into the courtroom to be questioned. Those are the most likely to be used on the jury. You have a good attitude- good luck!
I have a question , so the place they want me to report for jury duty I no longer live in that area is there anyway I can relocate to a area closer to me?
Hi Taylor. When you move you are supposed to change (a) your driver's license if you are changing states and (b) your voter registration if you move out of the precinct/congressional district. Those are the two places where they pull names for jury duty. So go and change whichever or both need to be changed and tell the jury coordinator- oops - guess you guys didn't know I moved. Show them the evidence that you moved (power bill, drivers license etc) and you should be excused.
HI Chomper- it sounds like you have been called to serve on a jury. Follow the directions and show on the designated day or if you have some reason you cannot then contact the coordinator as soon as you can to reschedule. Only if you receive such a summons and ignore it and then are served with a contempt citation would you be 'in trouble'.
You should have received instructions on 'what happens next' with the initial notice or via the online registration. Usually the system notifies you by text, email or snail mail or you are supposed to call in to check on status. It sounds like you may just be entering the overall group and that now they may assign you to a court date sometime in the future. At that point you then have to check your schedule and advise them if you need to move the date - or show and serve your one day and they excuse you or be included in the first group and serve on the jury.
@@FinelyRevealed I received the same summons (juror ballot). My date is for the end of this month but I have a two week trip five days after the date on my jury duty summons. What can I do?
Dear Michelle: why are juries deliberate in secrecy? Why do people have *no* right even to see full transcripts of deliberation after the verdict? I want to know *what* a jury is talking about, so I can understand their verdict. If it's all in secrecy - there's no way. Thanks.
I got the pamphlet filled it out and mailed it in but I don't know when I'm supposed to go in nor what what my ID is? If anyone can help I'll appreciate it.
Hi John - Each court has a jury coordinator so just look up the court clerk's office - call them and ask them to transfer you to the jury coordinator. Then you can ask them.
i don't care about what you are talking about. if i get told i have to go to jury duty then i will be arrested because i don't have any way to get around.
What if your group number is not listed on the website or when I called, the automated message said I have to call back the weekend I before I am on standby? I am supposed to be on standby this week! What should I do? 😬
The jury system is hot mess at best and really should be rethought. The verdict aren't decided on truth and facts necessarily but on who can argue best.
@@FinelyRevealed Right! "what they see and hear" So it's opinion and not fact based necessarily. You could have the best evidence ever but that means nothing if you have a incompetent or unskilled attorney representing you.
Hi Alien. Each state has its own rules. It sounds like where you live the rule might be that you are only required to serve 5 days in a year- so if you are empaneled on a jury and the case is 5 days long- once that is over you are good for the year. However if you are called - you go in and you are not put on a jury then you might have to do that up to 4 more times in a year. Also remember there are state courts and federal courts- so each person could be called for either of those types of jury service.
How long does this usually take? I have to go tomorrow, but I have work all week, and I'm going on a week long family vacation next weekend. Will this get in the way if I end up chosen?
Hi Shannon - Jury trials can be 2-3 days up to several weeks in length.Since you are scheduled to go tomorrow- just be sure to let the attorneys know that you have arrangements prepaid that have been on the schedule for a long time. They will usually (either the judge or the attorneys) announce to everyone how long the trial is scheduled to last and ask if anyone has commitments that would not allow them to be there the entire time. If they don't ask this then be sure to raise your hand to tell them. Most places have a 'one day one service' rule so just by showing tomorrow you will get credit for your service and won't be called again for at least a year. Good luck!
Once the court sends the summons you are required to appear. The paper is just to give you notice and not having it won't help you. Contact the court - google the number for the court clerk's office and call them. Ask to be connected to the jury coordinator and confirm the date(s) you were to appear and ask to be excused this time.

I just said I couldn't be fair cause I don't believe people should be driving knowing they are going to drink. If you're quiet you'll most likely get chosen. Mine seemed easier than other people.
Thanks for sharing Eddie - there's a lot of 'hurry up and wait' in court proceedings.
I’m still confuse, what exactly do you do in jury duty
Oh @Richard - thank you for this question. Check back Wednesday for a new video.
I'm 18 and just got a letter today saying I have jury duty.... wtf
Hopefully we've helped you be prepared.
LOL! 18!?!?!
im 18 too and got one lmao
@ihatescreennames89
Really? I don't want to go im scared..... I just checked it in the internet with dose codes that it come in the paper and it appear my name and to log in i did log in but their is a bunch of questions that have to answer in that questioner that i did not answer.....
@ihatescreennames89

ROFL chair swivel like you are morpheus. "Hello Neo, welcome to Jury Duty."
Hi Cheese- too funny - have a great day!
Currently sitting in the jury duty auditorium ...
R Lo how was it?
xxilickbl00dxx1 it was boring and i didn't even get called to serve. So we sat in a room for like 6 and a half hours straight with a lunch break. That was it for me but i was one of the few who didn't get picked. That was just my experience. But yeah
Lucky.
Xochilt please tell the jury coordinator- should not be a problem to have you passed to another time.
i ve been voting since i was 18 50 years later never been called
@@rubydawn1 you’re lucky. I’m 19 and just got called for the second time. I absolutely hate it
@@rubydawn1 I know this is an old post but I just wanted to say you are lucky.
She was starring at the wall until you started the video lol
Here in Cali they need to start basing it off folks who have full time jobs. I be sitting here trying to stay busy and pay my bills.
Hi @Kertis thanks for the comment- good point and suggestion!
Oh okay yep, l see now. Good day.
Your video has been most helpful. Still, it is very helpful.
I know absolutely nothing about courts and jury. Don’t know what a verdict is. Nothing. I’m selected. No clue how ima do this
Hi @Matt You will be absolutely fine- your comment shows that you are a conscientious person.
If I have a family member who is in the legal field, does that automatically exclude me from getting on the jury?
Hi Lioness- An 'automatic exclusion' as in you will be outright excused from showing up is doubtful. Once you appear and depending on the case and the questions asked you may be stricken and therefore be excused. If you think your particular circumstance may make one or other side want to strike you then you can 'volunteer' this information either on your questionnaire or during the voir dire (when the attorneys ask questions to see who they want to strike. Good luck!
Lioness Mummy no. People in the legal field serve themselves. Why would you be excluded?
Third time could be the charm Pinky!
Count yourself lucky. Nothing more agitating than missing work just to sit in a loud room and then be told to come back a day or two later, missing yet another day of work.
Very informative thank you so much
you're welcome Laura!
Worried about retaliation. It's a district court so the search for me will be easier 😧
Also thanks for the helpful , informative video.
Thank you so much! This was really helpful.
They don’t teach you this in high school. How does anyone know they’d be receiving this if they’re registered to vote?
Most creative intro I’ve ever seen
“You will be called sometime in your adult life-“ Not necessarily. I was in my 50s before I ever received a summons, as I lived in a county where most cases involved car wrecks. The petit jury is very important; the grand jury is obsolete.
I got summoned last year and I was only 19. Its different for everyone I guess
50s is still an adult
Glad I found your channel . Seems like it may be a good one .
Welcome Yolanda! Hope you find we provide some useful info for you.
What if you don't show up?
HI Kim - you can be cited for contempt of court. We have a video in the jury duty playlist called "why you must obey the jury summons". Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/ng2bcY2G67A/v-deo.html

Well, I'm called to jury duty... if I had a choice not to go, I would choose not to. Being forced to serve is not a privilege.
Besides, as a Christian, I'm not allowed to make judgement of any kind because no one is righteous. Techinally, there's already judgement given.

Good information ....helping me a lot as a law student 💞
HI @Maher Glad it was helpful! Also - if you are in the US watch for the announcement for my class for law students!
Okay what if you said this: "I refuse to serve the elite."
+FinelyRevealed can u go home during jury duty
Pay people proper out of pocket expenses, for instance loss of wages and proper travel expenses.
Thanks for this Gail - we are collecting the information to offer suggestions.
I have back pain when I sit a lot, I have anxiety disorder pretty badly. I also homeschool my teen son. Is there a way of knowing if I will be called to jury after my summons? Or is it decided that day?
HI @Dave On the summons there is usually a phone number or website you are to check to let you know if you need to report on a particular day- sometimes all the cases settle and you don't have to go. Did that help?
@@FinelyRevealedThank you!
@@FinelyRevealed if they state the date and location to appear on the summons that comes, do you have to call ahead or can you just show up? Does one way or the other help the odds of not being picked?
I have jury duty tomorrow, can someone please tell how the questioning goes during selection and types of questions . I’m so nervous!
I have a question The jury selected already 12 people and we still have to come why? If we was not chosen
So I got summoned but I don't remember using my white soapstone to put my summon sign down :/
I dropped out of highschool, have had NO jobs tracable by the state, dont drive nor do i vote.. How was i selected?
Hi @bit - depends on the state...
FinelyRevealed I'm sorry, I live in Los Angeles.

Potential jurors are selected randomly from the voter registration list
and the Department of Motor Vehicles' lists of drivers and
identification card holders.
If you are excused from jury duty wheather for cause or the attorneys strike you can you be called again i am in florida
Thank you for the complete information awesome
Thank You
+Orin Might You're welcome Orin - we hope it helped. More jury duty videos will be added this month.
What if I get summoned and I ignore the call?
The jury summons is an order from the court. The failure to obey a court order is contempt of court. The penalties for that vary based on location.
@ihatescreennames89
So what do i do with that notice that i recived today that it saids you have been summons for a jury duty what should i do then i mean i dont want problems im just so confused i don't know what they want me to do their i have 2 daughtets and i dont have anyone to babysit them.
Bottom line i don't want to serve. I should have the right to refuse.
😱 praying that my first jury duty doesn't last more than a day
Hi Young- You don't have to be placed on the jury as just by showing up it 'counts' as your service. If you stay out of the front chairs you'll probably be one and done! Good luck.
Young Cho I hope they don’t even pick me lmaooooooo
Doll Beauty Palace what happened
Why do you not get pick to go into court but get dismissed
The answer is a little too long to write- watch for a new video. Thanks for the great question @Angela
I am only required to report for one day instead of being on call. Is there a difference? Do I just show up for the one day I am required to report?
Hi @Daniel yes you understand correctly - the rule is one day/one service. You go on the assigned day and if you are either (a) not brought into the court to be part of the selection process or (b) are brought into the courtroom but the case settles or you are not empaneled - then you are excused and finished for the year. If you are empaneled on the jury then you serve until the case settles or until the case is finished either by the Judge or given to the jury for a decision.
I've been summoned 14 times in 3 years. I've never went.
But on the summons it says if you dont go you can go to jail and or pay a $500. How do you get out of that?
Did you ever get a little post card ?
The jury duty card is what I received. I reschedule it though to April 2020 cause I didn't feel like going... really didn't want to go
Deborah Motley I have my date for April 13th smh I’m so nervous
what happens if a juror falsely accuses a defendants family members of following them home on the first day of trial.
It's investigated. Courthouses have more than enough security to likely catch anything suspicious like that during the time said juror left the courthouse. Either way it would be looked into...there have been situations in the past where family members of the defendant offer a bribe to or threaten a juror.
I am nervous because my English is short. What can I do?
You'll be fine @Jan Don't worry about it. You won't be doing much talking - just watching and listening.
Thank you so much for your answer.
Can Jurors eat or drink anything during trial .. like eating lolly pops, drinking water or Starbucks..
Joe Ramirez 😂
are you kidding me imagine doing jury duty without Starbucks
I like the way you explain things, thank you! where are you located ?
Hi @Jacob Thanks very much. I am in the Kansas City area.
Would you mind if I have your office number, thank you 🙏
who do you talk to hear?
Very helpful! Thank you
Question.. what about breaks?
@@FinelyRevealed Thank you. I feel better now. I appreciate your quick response.
Michelle lost me at the spin. All I remember from this was that it was a summons for me to appear. I don't remember where she said I was to appear? Maybe out of thin air, that would be cool.
that swivel needed abit more sauce..
What type of clothing can I wear for jury duty?
+Jonathan Diaz Hi Jonathan. Good question! There are rules on what people cannot wear in court which includes shorts, cut offs, flip flops, bathing suits and the like. Attorneys have a dress code and they will have their clients look nice. For jurors there is not a specific dress code. Most guys wear khakis and a polo or collar shirt. Only a few times have I seen a man wearing a jacket. Some people will wear jeans. As with most situations it is better to be overdressed than under dressed.
+FinelyRevealed oh ok thank you

What's this common pleas business? Does that mean it's not like a major crime or like a lawsuit fight?
Hi @scorpiomaj27 in the US the states Ohio and Pennsylvania have courts of common please - in other states they can be called district courts, circuit courts or in New York they are called supreme courts. They are the basic trial courts where disputes are heard.
@@FinelyRevealed That makes sense, I'm in Pennsylvania and I'm potentially going in for common pleas in July. Thanks for replying!
She killed all my enthusiasm at the very last second, LOL.
how often do juries get sequestered?
Hi AI - not very often. Sequestration was just done in the Bill Cosby case- it happens when there is a lot of media attention. . The trial is to be decided only on the evidence that is presented in court. If the Court believes that it will be virtually impossible for the
jurors to not get information put out by the community and the media during the trial and therefore hard to monitor how they base their decision then sequestration will be ordered.
thank you
I'm anti corporate america for sure but I would pretend to hide that just to get on the jury and MAKE THEM PAY!
@carpetrug01 That was the premise of John Grisham's book "The Jury" !
I just got a jury summons. How can you tell if it grand jury or trial jury?
Grand juries are usually done in a series- like every Friday for 6 months. Petit or trial juries are for a designated day that then if you are put on the jury you will come back on consecutive days right then. If it is for a grand jury it will state that and will be from the federal court. (though California state uses grand juries) You can also call the coordinator or clerk on the notice.
What time is the jury duty in the morning???
Usually 9 am but check your call in information or paper notice to be sure.
At what age do people get jury duty
HI @ChV - adults are eligible to be called - so anytime from age 18 on up - and then there are some exclusions for older people in some states.
@@FinelyRevealed thank you! I'll try my best
Hello, I have received the Jury Duty for Juror Service. Does this mean I have something that I am guilty for or am I in trouble?
HI Chomper- it sounds like you have been called to serve on a jury. Follow the directions and show on the designated day or if you have some reason you cannot then contact the coordinator as soon as you can to reschedule. Only if you receive such a summons and ignore it and then are served with a contempt citation would you be 'in trouble'.
All right. I have just successfully registered online. Does this mean I now have to wait.
I have been placed on stand by for jury duty for about a week now. I wonder if I'll end up going or not, because I still hadn't gotten a message yet.
Hi @Mish usually there is a number they give you to call and check the status. You might want to call the jury coordinator.
FinelyRevealed Thanks! I just messaged back on the provided number & I was told I fulfilled my service & didn't need to report. So I'm good. 🙂
Dear Michelle: why are juries deliberate in secrecy? Why do people have *no* right even to see full transcripts of deliberation after the verdict? I want to know *what* a jury is talking about, so I can understand their verdict. If it's all in secrecy - there's no way. Thanks.
Good question ! Watch for a new video
How does someone that is not us citizens get the jury duty ???
Hi Jennifer. Only US citizens can be on a jury.
FinelyRevealed oh ok
Jury Service is so important. Is your Civic Obligation to do it. 👨⚖
very educative
i don't care about what you are talking about. if i get told i have to go to jury duty then i will be arrested because i don't have any way to get around.
If you lack transportation or physically have restrictions on moving around please let them know @Nicole. Otherwise they have no way to know this.
What if your group number is not listed on the website or when I called, the automated message said I have to call back the weekend I before I am on standby? I am supposed to be on standby this week! What should I do? 😬
Hi @Briethejedi Try calling the clerk of the court and they should be able to help you or get you to the correct person.
The jury system is hot mess at best and really should be rethought. The verdict aren't decided on truth and facts necessarily but on who can argue best.
Hi Antarctic. The jury decides based upon what they see and hear and then specific instructions given by the Judge on the law.
@@FinelyRevealed Right! "what they see and hear" So it's opinion and not fact based necessarily. You could have the best evidence ever but that means nothing if you have a incompetent or unskilled attorney representing you.
So if im assigned to 5 jury dutys i need to do 5 JURY DUTYS?! or its a voting poll for each?
FinelyRevealed Thanks! This really helps out so now i know.
Good luck!
Man I don't wanna go to court and be a juror for some random person, fuck that
This is great training to law students and those under 70 years old. here needs to be a cut-of age given.
What happens if you lose your summons to appear for jury duty? Can people ask for a postponement?
Once the court sends the summons you are required to appear. The paper is just to give you notice and not having it won't help you. Contact the court - google the number for the court clerk's office and call them. Ask to be connected to the jury coordinator and confirm the date(s) you were to appear and ask to be excused this time.
