Logs didn't mentioned it, but one of the reason the deck can maintain so much advantage because of Honest. Honest was the beast during 2010 format and guarantee their space ship to win a battle, triggering their monster effect having low attack also helps them dodge Bottomless Trap Hole, which a staple during that format
Jeff Jones is definitely one of the goats of the game. He’s on the Mount Rushmore of yugioh for sure. Not just the mentioned decks, he topped with Yang Zing when people thought it was a gimmick. He topped with Koaki Meiru BroFist making Koaki Meiru Urknight go from 2 bucks to 30 back in the day. That’s like a 2 dollar card hitting 80. That’s why “old” yugioh was so fun because finding niche archetypes that was competitive was possible. Nowadays, all these negates and handtraps just power creep everything before 2020.

But yea the whole ftk/otk movement, yugioh has become has really turned a lot of players away to playing time wizard now, like Edison. Modern is just unfixable, like it has gone pass the point of no return with all the handtraps, and crazier, and crazier archetypes coming out. Just first turn solitaire.
Even Japan had weird stuff like _Vintage Chaos Deck_ scoring a win in the year *2020* His opponents had their hand traps pretty much bricked all the time and somehow Mirror Force cooked up serious trouble.
Very happy that spaceships is number 1 in here. I actually experimented it with modern era techs, and it works well as low-low tier rogue deck, paired with big kaijus and gadgets. I can proudly say I had beaten a tear, hero, and Punk PEP with this deck...well, in gold tho

One of my favorite decks when I was a child was what I called my 'Boss Rush' deck when Enemies of Justice had come out. Ran three copies of Vic Viper XX-03, 3 Power Capsules for easier effect triggers to buff Vic, and the B.E.S. Cores with Boss Rush! Continuous.
If it came true I would be the happiest Gradius player. I aint joking, I played it in MD, with Kaiju and Gadget tech. A simple "your opponent cannot respond in battle phase" is more than helpful to execute honest + limiter removals

As a casual/digital YGO player, but also 25-year old fan of the game, I find very insteresting knowing about what has happened in the major tournaments all this time. I retired from YGO last year, but the only deck I kept was my Gradius deck. Although mine is not as cool as #1 in this list, I just use Lord British, XX03, and T301 alongside a bunch of kaijus and attack spells + removal and hand traps. Such a fun deck, it consistently won most game 1's in my locals and then proceeded to lose games 2 and 3 lmfao

Man I remember back in 2006 my group of friends stopped playing Yugioh when one of our guys bought like 2 full boxes just because he loved Gradius and wanted to make a jank deck around Vic Viper and didnt get a sngle one. We all stopped playing getting sick of how Chaos just gave way to a Treeborn loving Monarch and every single archytype they released seemed to suck as if they had no idea how to design the game. Now yeah it was premature and I would come back for XYZ era but everyone I knew bailed. He probably would have loved to see how deck wasnt as jank as he imagined

You're sort of right, but also not really. Spaceships for example was absolute trash. It loses to most blackwing decks at the time, it just abused honest, floodgates, and battle quickplays. There were way more versatile and creative pure fairy and chaos fairy decks at the time that got extremely unlucky. Fairies offer far greater control (for the time period) with more versatile options and stronger floodgate abuse.

Brilliant fusion is limited and you have to play something like predaplant engine to search it, which require a normal summon not many decks can afford that so they don't use it
No one using a really old engine is not strange, people pretending it would be broken nowadays are. Same goes for 99% of the individual cards on the list and a bit less in conjunction

Nekroz wasn't Tier 0 at YCS Bochum. This was after the banlist that knocked Brio to 2 and Prep to 1. The meta was Nekroz, Qli, and Shaddoll.
I knew Gren Maju would be on here. I think the two (consecutive?) YCS tops was a great indicator of a good format.

It's interesting that someone winning Edison format event with Quickdraw Dandy would be considered winning with a jank deck. I can't wrap my hand around why anyone let alone whole community thought that deck was good.
