Yes - it would work, and it would be really pretty. Just be sure to test knit a swatch...if your needle/yarn combo makes too tight of a fabric, you're likely to get some curling. In that case, you'll want to move up to bigger needles.
It is the working yarn that is held in the back for the slipped stitch, but the YO stitch before it can make it look otherwise. Think of it like this - if the working yarn was held in the front and the stitch was slipped, you'd see a "float" on the front of the slipped stitch. See what I mean?
The yarn is actually pink - I'd never use white. But yes, it is easier to see brighter colors on the white background. I can actually see the pink fine on my computer and laptop.
"Slipping one with yarn in back" and "slipping as if to purl" are two different things. I try to be as clear as I possibly can be with the terms. Be sure to use this video with the written instructions (just below the video in the video description field) to make things clearest.
You are fantastic! I’m stuck trying to understand a similar stitch. I think it’s not the same, anyway. How do you feel about requests? (The devil that’s got me is the braid - looking stitch in between the diamond panels in Barbara Walker’s 1st treasury, on p. 122.) Whether you tackle that one or not, I can’t thank you enough for all your great videos! Ten + years of tutoring me? THANKS!!!
Hi Staci, Do you know of any book, tutorial or reference that can help me fix a dropped stitch in the herringbone stitch? I'm halfway into Purlbee's herringbone cowl and have a problem. I was working on the right side of the work and noticed that the previous row looked weird, so I tried to tink back, and then DISASTER struck! Any advice would be appreciated, and NO, I didn't have a life line :(
On the first row, the last repeat you did you forgot to slip one so you actually grabbed the yarn over to pass over the other two stitches. Just thought I'd let you know to correct your annotation :)
This fancy stitch looks complex and detailed compared to how straightforward it is to produce it. What are some garments you have liked to use it for; how do you like it in socks or sweaters? Love to hear your thoughts.
What I meant to say is it is a bit confusing , with how you described the "slip one with the yarn in back " why not say slip as to purl. It is clear to me to watch you do it but not so much to hear to say it. Hope I made sense .
Aren't you "slipping as if to purl"? You aren't going in with your right hand needle as if you were going to knit the stitch.. Or I've just confused myself
I haven't watched this video in a while, it's possible that I misspoke...putting the needle in as if to knit and slipping the stitch is slipping as-if-to-knit, and putting the needle in as if to purl and slipping the stitch is slipping as-if-to-purl. Please follow the written instructions for this stitch on my website for the most accurate instructions! I demonstrate the techniques here, but you need the written instructions to really create the stitch.
I love your videos. Whenever I need help or have a knitting question, the first person I turn to is you! Thank you for what you do!
I like this herringbone stitch a lot better than some other ones I've seen. The wrong side is very pretty!!

I'm loving this series. Can't wait to see which fancy stitch you show next. :)
It is really nice to learn these new stitches.
Is it possible to knit this fancy herringbone stitch in the round
Yes, you can work this in the round. I haven't test knit it myself, but you just need to change Row 2 so that it is also a right-side row.
Did you test it since then, my lady?
Oh good, what I was wondering if this can be done in the round... would you then do row 1 only?
Lovely stitch. The pink swatch was so pretty! Thank you. :D

Love this! Would it work okay for a simple wrap shawl?

Thanks so much! Can't wait to try this.

Staci, You are the best!
thank you
if you like to use this stitch with circular needles, do you knit the pattern of the first row only?
How would you knit this in the round?
oooooh that is pretty!!
I haven't tested that myself - but yes, that seems correct.
Thank you!
Thanks, Staci!

Sorry Angela - I don't know of any, nor have I tried it myself. All I can do is wish you good luck on your experiment!

Fun stitch 🙋♀️🧶❣️
I did this but it didn't look right is there any mistakes in this?
@alohaoy staci is the women who'a knitting in this video

The "with yarn in back" has me confused. What yarn is in the back? It's not the working yarn...
