When Barry met Shirley it was a Romeo and Juliette moment. Shirley had to change her name twice. First to Mike and then to Michelle just to throw off the scent from the Paparazzis.
Shirley was famous and Barry just got off the boat from Kenya. But when Barry later got famous himself he decided to return the favour and change his name too.
Who knows? If Shirley hadnt killed that cook they could actually have become happy together.
