Watched maybe 20 videos on lighting. This is the first I needed to comment on. It was incredibly helpful. Made me feel like I was on the right track. A lot of other videos make me feel like I'm not smart enough to understand. Good work dude. Keep it up.
Probably the best video I have seen on indoor low light shooting for beginners. Most videos on youtube aren't even dark and are made by people using very high end cameras and super expensive lighting equipment. Yours is definitely relate able to someone starting out. Awesome job.
+Lordofthethings2 I appreciate the kind words! I definitely make these videos for newcomers. Made this for some friends actually! Any future video suggestions are always welcome!
Hey man, I'm a UA-cam creator and I've had problems with grainy video. I'm great with a story but not the best with tech and this really helped me. Thanks alot!
This video was simply phenomenal. Extremely informative, well-paced, and I LOVE how you just get right to the point without wasting our time. Thank you!
This video is incredibly informative - one of the best I've come across so far. I was using an old T-shit for diffusion and never thought of dryer sheets or toilet paper. The T shirt works too, but it's thick.
Simple lighting trick don't use cheap equipment don't use indoor lights use windows, even 2 windows in a room will look amazing compared to the lightbulbs.
there is literally ZERO other videos that says the crap light bulbs we have are what causes noise in indoor footage. This suprised me more than anything else!
Any tips for me? i record at night so no natural lighting. I turn all lights off and only light my setup using 2 lights on boom arms for my backdrop and a large ring light for my face i get really bad grain and noise but it is very very bright.
YES, my videos look like what you described!!! 90s Yellow tinted crap! I was about to smash my Canon 2000DS that shot my videos in 1020p 50frame per second. I used lamps, did not defuse them . My videos look sooooo bad. Makes my professional dance look worse than Bowie's Major Tom video. Going to buy studio lights, better bulbs, open windows and everything YOU SAID!
Ok, this video is EXACTLY what i was looking for, but i actually couldnt find it - youtube recommended it to me. This video actually answers all the questions i had (why, how to fix, ways to fix, what light should i aim for etc), which i couldnt find in any other - at least not all answers in one video.
This was how youtube videos were back in days.. Now a dayss, most of the stupid people are just clickbaiting viewer. Thanks buddy. You are really awesome.
I'll save you the 8 minutes. Make it brighter. And some incorrect info about how every camera has the same native ISO (they dont), and some diffusion stuff which is a general lighting tip; not a tip to reduce noise.
Great tutorial for beginners. Now for composition theres similar thing , you want to avoid being it flat : try to find more texture pattern, think about foreground and baground, contrast of colors, contrast of background, points of interest. Also dont be afraid to cut someones head in scene, it may highligh the role of the character rather than personality while our main actor will be also more highlighted as only personality
Thanks for de-mystifying some of the cinematography technical aspects, certainly my weakest area of filmmaking. I'm doing a lot of post production for other filmmakers these days and am currently color grading a feature (in Resolve-free version) that has some noise issues so I'm exploring how to fix that on a budget. I'll probably have to break down and buy Neat Video.
Just watched a few seconds. But I'm gonna comment for the algo to help you out brother. Thank you so much. You're #2 on the question I searched so you're doing great!
thanks for the info! I shoot videos in a music box with no windows, using a GoPro 8 and two lights (one halogen 400 watts and one led panel 50w as filling light). The footage still looks somehow grainy even if I set the iso low and all the other settings. Do I need more light? is there something i am missing?
For strong lights i suggest buying those strong construction halogen lights, and put some filter to it or that they light to soft ceiling which will bounce soft light. Also buy cheap led 600lights from china with batteries, but .. just remember, buy bigger ones instead of small ones
Still your explanation doesn't make sense because you are showing at the end amazing, neat an tidy shots taken with basically no lights. Whats worse is that to me, even shooting outside in daylight, with iso of 100, still grainy and shit. There's clearly something that is missing here, and low iso-lots of white light and/or sun is not the solution
haven't heard that problem with nikon, only with canon which is the gear i have. all the videos blame the ISO for it, but there's gotta be another cause
I have a incredibly good lighting in my room, a giant windows oriented south + a studio lamp oriented on me and I still get a grainy effect, is there any other factor that can cause that ?
I have a problem my camera is good, normal you could say but when I take a photo with snapchat the whole photo gets film grain anyone knows the problem (btw its not sound distortion)
snapchat takes a screenshot of what your camera sees not an actual photo so the quality is downgraded a bit for andriod at least not sure about iphone.

Glad I was wrong.
How does a video on lighting make me laugh, I dont even know why I clicked on this but Im glad I did
This video is incredibly informative - one of the best I've come across so far. I was using an old T-shit for diffusion and never thought of dryer sheets or toilet paper. The T shirt works too, but it's thick.
i get that better lighting is important but how is it that his dark shots in the film scenes are still clear and without grain??
finally! after 2 weeks! I finally found the right video
Man, straight up congratulations. This was incredible. How did you make a cinema grade film while teaching someone how to make cinema grade films?
Wow. It's been a year and this video has only 5k views? Congratulations, man. This was really helpful.
WHO WOULD DISLIKE SUCH AN INFORMATIVE WELL PUT TOGETHER VIDEO ???
freakin awesome , full packed information , felt goosebumps so freaking good.

haven't heard that problem with nikon, only with canon which is the gear i have. all the videos blame the ISO for it, but there's gotta be another cause
What if the room you're filming in doesn't have any windows or you're filming in the middle of winter?
To be very honest the grainy noisy filter gives the 2007's flim vibes
This guy is an expert communicator
Bro, great video. What's your LoL name?
