Here’s my opinion, if they’re the City uniforms, they should be about the city. Make some cool design with a staple of that city. Don’t just change the font of the words and put it on a boring jersey.
I wish he researched the meaning of the some of these colors and designs ovo and drake is the reason for the gold in Toronto and the green is for Mardi Gras in New Orleans
Nike's done the exact same thing with international soccer/football jerseys. Literally just copy and paste for teams going to the world cup, euros, Copa America, ect.
15:30 i have to disagree, as a toronto native, the black and gold is incredible and does represent the City, OVO, drake, etc. big part of Toronto culture and ove of our biggest claims to fame other than landmarks
The Nike City uniforms created an avenue for logos to be put on the uniforms. Who cares, right? Well they also created an avenue for coaches to no longer wear suits during the games. Who cares, right? Well we have now arrived at the point where there are UA-cam TV holograms littered all across the court, the actual field of play, during the NBA Finals. We have announcers for the NBA Finals treating the game like it’s another Wednesday Night. All I’m saying is the slippery slope that was Nike taking over all creative control of these uniforms has now lead to the entire NBA being a somewhat crappy product that is becoming really tiring. The NBA has become WAY WAY WAY too commercialized and us, the consumer, have been too big of cowards to call them out on it in a real way. Continue to sit on your hands and see how far Adam Silver will take it because I’m positive he isn’t done moving the NBA in this “commercialized, social media, sponsorship, and CCP money over all else” direction.
the raptors keep on doing the black and gold jerseys cause of drake and OVO (which i think OVO and the raptors had/have a deal to make an alternate jersey every year since OVO sponsored the training facilities) but some of the city jerseys you pointed out having weird colors etc do have meaning that relates to the city, it’s just niche within that city’s market, especially the smaller markets like Portland, charlotte and NOLA for example
i do think there has been an issue with the new jerseys coming out, which i would like to see a video on. but that lies on the teams themselves and the teams designers. Nike just makes and distributes them lol
The color pattern on the PDX jerseys was from our iconic carpet in the PDX airport, it came as the airport announced it was replacing the carpet and everyone went bananas (though the renovations are incredible). That jersey was highly loved by the city, but I understand why others wouldn't.
Tbh the Milwaukee one is overhated, the creme color pays homage to the city and it’s architecture giving it the nickname “cream city” while the blue/yellow color wave acknowledges the state as a whole by taking inspiration from the alternate jersey of wisconsins other major team the packers
I think the NBA, or generally, the American professional sports should try to bring different jersey manufacturers to the teams like they do in European Sporrts. Like teams can choose Nike, Adidas, Puma or whatever they like. This will make the market competitive again, not just a single company monopolise & dominate the market, and hopefully minimize those lazy, weird & bad designs and improving the overall qualities.
Nike is not even trying anymore with their basketball division. Even those siganture shoes looks all the same from lebron to ja. I think nike R&D budget is putting more focus on soccer/football as it has way bigger audience. Have anyone notice that Nike football kit/jersey is on fire right now and those Lebron liverpool jersey looks really good.
I'm glad somebody said something. It has been going down hill ever sense Nike took over. I can't even enjoy 2K anymore because it's just a literal eye sore. 90% of the uniforms are garbage.
They should have never gotten rid of the home and away jerseys. Nike came in and messed up team colors with these horrible jerseys. That nobody asks for.
Alot of you don’t realize that Mitchell and Ness owns all the classic designs that most of us love ie. Sunburst, Vancouver Grizzlies, warriors We Believe, etc. That means that Nike can’t just use these designs as their primary jerseys because Mitchell and Ness has those rights. Teams are only allowed to use classic edition jerseys on the anniversary of that jersey, prime example the Suns using the Sunburst jersey during the 2022-2023 season which was the Sunburst jerseys 30th anniversary, and this is why Nike can only sell swingman jerseys and not authentic jerseys as well. The reason why these teams don’t just go back to their classic uniforms is not because the teams don’t want to, it’s because Mitchell and Ness has the rights to those specific jerseys.
Actually Mitchell & Ness is own by Fanatics who actually makes the jerseys for all of the leagues. Nike give them the designs and tell the, what materials to use and Fanatics pump them out. Nike can put out any throwbacks , just one a year
That's not true. NBA owns retro designs and M&N licence them like everyone else who producing NBA merch. When team retires their look, it went into NBA Properties and Hardwood Classic line. Also teams are eligible to get a retro when they have any anniversary which ends on '0' or '5', so 5th anniversary, 10th anniversary, etc.
Sports have a Nike Problem let’s be real Edit:Nike has a monopoly on jerseys in sports now…like anything when you have a monopoly on something you got no competition so why try?
The Chicago jersey represents the art deco style of architecture that defined the city around 1920-30s. It's a concept that represents the city, although the execution is a bit meh.
Also black and gold is for OVO, Drake is on the panel of the city edition designers for Toronto. His record label logo is black and gold, that’s why the Raptors always have black and gold, because drake says so
This is old news. Nike has owned the NBA for some time, and it is barely watchable many nights. The over promotion and bending of league rules for a clown like Leblah James has all but ruined the NBA for older fans. And yes, these jerseys are trash.
Every one of these jerseys look like shit. I hate that nike makes jerseys and official gear for three out of thr four major sports in North America. They did a number on the mlb jerseys this year. Gave them some cheap looking garbage everyone is complaining about.
Laker fan here disappointed every year we have these never getting my gold and purple unis back. Always some ugly ass banana yellow or weird ass black jerseys smh
Yea it seems Nike as been putting a whole lot of lack of effort into their other products as well like their sneakers, smh🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️.... Somebody needs to write a serious letter to Nike about their freakin laziness. And also you ranked Utah too high and Cleveland too low. Utah doesn't deserve all that credit for their jersey. It's the same thing we've seen before which is more evidence of Nike's laziness, smdh
The NBA needs to go back to just one home uniform and one road uniform for each team, and they could still let each team have either one home alternate or one road alternate. All two or three uniforms should be only in that team's colors, with alternates allowed only for up to ten regular season games, and no longer allowed in the postseason. Alternates should also be in the same style as either the team's home or road uniform, like in the '90s or early '00s. Also, back to every team wearing white (or gold or silver for those teams that have that as one of their colors, like the Lakers) only for all of their home games. It would be really nice to once again be able to glance at a screen or a photo and be able to immediately tell which two teams are playing in a game.
1. Bring back home and away color designations with allowance of color vs color maybe for a nationally televised game 2. Keep the city jerseys but teams can keep the design for as long as they want. Teams can have a throwback if they want but don’t need too. 3. Home, Away, Alternate, City & maybe throwback. That’s it.
Honestly Nike just took over Majestic as MLBs jersey designer. The first 2 years were solid masterpieces but this year was a complete joke and disappointment and disaster for MLB jerseys, they’ve never looked so cheap, felt worse than China reps, and had MLB pitchers ballsacks showing because of how see though the pants were. Apparently fanatics started printing the jerseys so no more sown texture or anything “premium” for a $150+ piece of polyester (plastic) even the $350 “elite” jerseys are completely useless and garbage.
For some reason last year the ones I hated last year like the heat culture and the lakers I all hated from the pictures, but once I saw them in game with the courts the colours of the jerseys really grew on me , but the Chicago and the nuggets jerseys were so bad it was almost hard to watch on tv :Edit Something I noticed is that last year almost every team missed hard on the fonts😂(I’m not gonna comment on this year it’s just sad)
I really hate that the bulls, my franchise, not only can’t get a star player to stay but also can’t get a star jersey. Like Nike if you want to use chi town blue PLEASE DO. We haven’t changed much but why must the jerseys be beyond boring or look like my little cousin made it in class.
I understand complaining about Nike’s lack or creativity and not liking the designs because it’s fair criticism but it all seems in poor judgment if you’re ranking the line of uniforms with the sole purpose of reflecting the city in some way or another and then constantly asking where the colors are coming from when all of the context is available with little research and justifies a good chunk of past jerseys
Ngl, it's just so easy to make a suns jersey and everything clicks! Orange goes great with Black and white, so does the purple. But the most obvious reason is Arizona's culture and how they embrace it. It's an amazing place for people of colour! The history just makes everything in the city an inspiration for their jerseys.
If these supposed to be about representing the city that the team is in then why don't they get some artist/designer from that city to design the jersey.
As a lakers fan since ‘00 it’s really hard for me to see the gold on the road they look so yellow with the lights vs @ home. Imo. I do miss the home and away a lot but I guess I just gotta get used to it 🤷 the gold unis themselves while looking better at home still don’t have the same gold hue Adidas did. Maybe rebook in 04-05 & 05-06 for example amount of hue - gold. But definitely not on the road.
Oh buddy. Where do I begin. First and foremost, let me start by saying I was born and raised in Oregon about an hour away from Portland. You completely missed the mark on them. The plaid “hipster baller” jersey that you referred to is in reference to Jack Ramsay. Our head coach during our first and only championship season. He was synonymous for wearing plaid. The wood pattern one that you referred to as “really ugly” is actually in reference to Oregons extensive Native American culture. We have a rich history of native tribes that lived in Oregon and that jersey was made to commentate that. And lastly, the turquoise PDX jerseys are a reference to the old carpet in the PDX international airport. It is iconic to me and everyone who saw it. Do you think the classic jerseys should stay? Because I think they should.
@@NISHAAN30can’t, Mitchell and Ness owns the rights to all those classic uniforms.
NBA designs the jerseys
Nike makes the jerseys
Huge difference
Each teams designs its own jerseys
NBA aproves or not the jerseys
Nike provides the materials to be made
A huge common misconception is that Nike are the ones designing the jerseys. They do not, the teams do.

Well it’s a mixture of both
The Portland jerseys that was green is a throwback to the original Portland airport carpet. It’s not for everyone but it’s a cool homage to the city.
Whole 20 min video on someone who just needs to say "I prefer retro jerseys".
