That favorite scene he mentioned was actually in this week's episode. Defeating and eating that monster was one of the final triggers that causes his evolution to the World Saga.

This is really interesting. The author who wrote The Fruit of Evolution started writing that in high school, and finished it after graduating college. They also started writing I Got a Cheat Ability in a Different World, and Became Extraordinary Even in the Real World while they were in college. It's a much more refined work. It uses a lot of the same ideas as Fruit of Evolution, but while that's comedy, those same elements in Cheat Ability play much more seriously and makes for a great read.

"The anime is the anime and the original is the original" is EXACTLY how I feel about Slime too, I honestly don't really like the anime adaptation but it's enjoyable enough and reminds me of the events being portrayed much better in the LN (and manga) so I don't hate it.
I find it funny that it was specifically because of reading the Re:Monster and (especially) Slime manga that I got into reading LN's and almost immediately started the Mushoku WN a long time ago.

Going in blind Re:Monster is an average anime. But once i knew it was written in a diary format it becomes a lot higher rated (in my book) even possibly one of the best shows of the season. Finding out it was written in a diary format patches all the main problems I had with anime. A diary has most conversations recorded in the form of summaries in the voice of who's writing it with very little quotes from other people. Events are mostly written almost in bullet points with little connecting tissue between them. The "flat" supporting side characters now have a reason for being "flat".
I'm really impressed with how the animatotors and the author could make such a deep world wail showing it through the eyes of basically just one character.
Watching it with the mindset that it's a diary makes or breaks the show in my opinion.

And I get why too. People said Re Monster is bad but its still a very well throught combat in D&D style.
Reminder back in the day games like D&D is major popular. Don't know if its the same in Japan but even in Japan there's JRPG.
A lot kf systems in the novel is a game inspired series and goes in the way that makes sense. Like if the context isn't left out that is...
While in anime I have a huge criticism... Why are they skipping a lot of skill context? When Rou gain skill the skill be like "I'm speed!!!"
So people are left with no context why he's good...
TBH if we offer them the same animation as Overlord series? Itw ould be just as good! This problems exist even in Overlord! So many skill context are left behind and it seem like Ainz is pointlessly OP...
Of course not! It's actually Shalltear! She's straight out an immortal solo self sustaining DPS that has infinite HP/MP loop and has no weakness due to Vampire/Valkyrie combo (Res Light/Dark)
The fact Ainz won he even said at the last episode of season one... He got lucky and its nice that Shalltear isn't that smart.
Like Ainz almost died if Shalltear was at average IQ...
But without so much context? Its OP isekai...
Yes but No... Ainz isn't even the strongest in the lore. Its Lord Touch Me...

I have never understood why people be saying RE:Monster is bad. I read the manga a very long time ago and only every enjoyed it, dropping it due to the erratic release schedule. The anime is generally well adapted and spends less time on the skills and more time on the plot progression in the diary format which is the main negative of the story, it is a diary from the pov of the MC. yes other characters are shallow, because we are being told a story from just one PoV. Its not meant to be some amazing literary masterpiece, each day is a piece of popcorn, some bland some flavorful. It is perfectly enjoyable as just a fun little series you don't take too seriously.

16:15 I don't write in the common way almost since I started writing.
First I tried to write as short as possible just to get the basic plot out.
It was a very weird style, many important things were missing. And the dialogs existeted but were usually just a one back and forth or something, and that's it.
The only thing I did back then already which didn't change is writing in present tense. Because writing in past tense doesn't make sense when there isn't a clear point of reference from which the story is told. So it only makes sense if it's somebody telling a story from their past or writing a diary or something.
So now I usually do present tense, and mix up thoughts and actions. I prefer first or second person, except if there isn't a clear single main character.
And for dialogs, I use drama style.
So not "..." he said. She said "...".
    But rather this:
    He: ...
    She: ...
    He: ...
    The reasons:
    1. shorter (no unneccessary "he says")
    2. it's more obvious who says what in long dialogs

11:32 That happens to me all the time.
For example I recently thought this about One Piece.
It's great, but it would be better if it focused more on the relationship dynamics of the crew.
Besides that it's a little annoying that basically everybody in One Piece can fight on their own. At least they are much better at fighting than a common enemy.
Instead the focus should be on everybody having their own abilities, so the cook and the artist can't fight at all for example, but they can work together on everything.
And fighting should be toned down anyway.
