as someone who became a fan of fifty fifty predebut I’m just so unbelievably proud of them. hunnies are a small but strong fandom online right now but we do keep growing. everyone else seems to be concerned with them living up to the success of cupid but us hunnies and fifty fifty are just excited to be in this position in the first place and are enjoying it as it’s happening. our only real goal for the next comeback is making sure they can solidify some domestic success in korea. international success is just a fun bonus

I feel that these girls have a very emotional connection with their work. Aran, in the Cupid series, said that she wanted to perform the twin version differently because the languages have different rhythms. That was pretty clever and amazed me because idols usually are not too involved with this kind of thing. Sio was giving directions on how she wanted her part to sound, Saena was literally changing the choreography by herself as the days went by, and Keena changed some parts of the lyrics to make them more catchy. They were fully involved in the project. If they keep this level of commitment with their work in the future, it would be very easy for them to keep their fan base. I mean, in the end, what makes a group survive is how dedicated their fan base can be

I think you forgot to highlight another big factor and that’s the English version of Cupid
It’s not just palatable but possibly THE best English version of a Kpop song
It’s also where I start to worry in terms of what their company will do next. Do they try and capture lighting in a bottle? Also will this result in more companies now properly focusing on English translations?

I think another major aspect of Cupid's success is the existence of the Twin/English Ver.
There are so many people that would never have given the song a chance if the Twin version didn't exist, because a lot of people swear off K-pop simply because it's in Korean.

I do think whatever fifty fifty comes back with will be successful. being successful doesn’t mean surpassing the achievements of cupid but just making music that gets positive reception and brings in new fans and I believe they’ll be able to do this. even before their official debut lovin me got a lot of attention and praise and once higher released it garnered even more attention. they’ve been consistently loved and praised and continuously grown their listeners. even if people don’t necessarily begin to stan more and more people are paying attention. as long as they continue to release good music (which I have complete faith that they will) they’ll continue to be successful

Not many invest a lot in those groups, granted they might not have a lot, but then, why waiting resources and the future of young idols on the hope of them blowing up just as they debut.
Small companies investing on those groups like their life depends on it, with good music and good concept, can make the difference (SOMU, Happy Face),...

Honestly, I heard of Fifty Fifty from Kpop Junkee and didn't regret it (Debut era). All of their songs are really good and have longevity. Cupid isn't a one-hit wonder like many people are trying to make it to be. Maybe some people don't enjoy their songs, but you must admit they're all very talented. I LOVE Aran's voice, it sounds like an angel, it has to be one of the best voices I've seen in K-pop today. Keena also really stands out in the rap section, I really can't wait for their next comeback and this is one of those few groups that really deserve the success they have right now. I think that also having a group that isn't minors helps with this, it feels like the company cares and knows the problems in K-pop and with some people out there. Lots of people feel more comfortable having a group that isn't minors because many young adults can relate to them and their music, and actually follow them without being uncomfortable. (I also wanted to add, that Cupid, the twin version, is the best English K-pop song I've ever heard. It sounds like a normal English song on the radio and doesn't try to incorporate cringy slang or lyrics.)

as a hunny, i can speak for most if not all of us and say that we know that this success isn’t going to stay the exact same. we know the numbers are going to decrease. we know how the internet works. but that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to be happy for our girls and look forward to them in the future. hunnies as a whole has grown so so so much and that excites us because that means we’re going to have a stronger fanbase (which means higher album sales). we’re excited because all of the success brought in by cupid has given the girls & attrakt the chance to show off even more (with the profit earned by cupid we’ll definitely get much more music, even better produced music & mv’s, more content (variety shows, etc.), and better promotion.) It’s all gotten to the point where ATTRAKT is even planning on making a sub label FOR 5050 themselves to focus solely on the girls, that’s absolutely incredible. Fifty Fifty are great and i’m so glad to have fallen for them way before because seeing this success first hand is absolutely beautiful. I adore these girls and I will always be here for them from now on no matter what their numbers look like a month from now.

This is gonna make me sound like a crazy orbit, but the point you made about how difficult it was for nugu ggs to break out prior to tiktok is so true. Like that's why it feels like the 3rd Gen Trinity (RV, BP, and Twice) were so monumental, the nugu ggs couldn't break out. Now you have more ggs building a grassroots fanbase similar to the Loona pre-debut and seeing success. Makes me happy for possible smaller artistically driven groups to come out of the woodwork. Can't wait for what they do next, but it's also makes me anxious

While it is cool they went viral with one song. The sales are still extremely low and we can only tell if it truly helped them if their next comeback will be massively sold/streamed, so they actually earn something from it as well. I was showing their debut to everyone when it came out and I literally have a screenshot of their Spotify that says 0 monthly listeners. 😶 I was extremely happy when I learned they got such positive reviews by korean music critics for their debut and hoped they would continue to gain more attention, since they had the talent and good music to match it. I could never have imagined this.
Personally I think Fifty Fifty have now gained a stable foothold.
Their song is very viral yes, but the views on their MVs and subscribers to their UA-cam channel do not reflect that of a kpop group with a lot of fans. I think many people will just treat cupid like every other viral tiktok song and call it a day. They are doing very well on home charts in Korea too and getting more media attention there and actually gaining fans in that aspect so much so that their debut song Higher is also charting. With the attention of the Korean GP captured the only step that really remains for them to become a group in the “safe zone” with guaranteed interest every comeback is to release a good follow up song/ album and they’ll have that consistent kind of success StayC has. They don’t need another viral hit, they need to grow a stable fanbase and get good radioplay back home.
Hopefully with the money earned from this comeback they can continue to invest it in good producers.
Also, I need a Keena singing song. Have you seen that cover that she posted on the fan cafe?! I really like the unit system where they make songs based off of what combination of their voices sounds best too. I think it allows more flexibility for the song writers.

I would say that those girls should enjoy this fame as much as they can, because in this era if an artist doesn’t take time to be on top then it wouldn’t take time for them to fall also. Because their fame is way different than the artists who built their solid foundation first.

17:50 About that, thanks to you, I listened to Fifty Fifty and really liked their sound. This year's project for me is to discover new songs and artists in the sphere of kpop. For example, I've casually listened to some title tracks by KINGDOM last year, but around this month, I really got into those title tracks again, so these two past weeks I set myself to listen to their entire discography and I loved the experience so much that I decided to finally stan them. This year I also established my love for Billlie (they are creeping closer to my semi-ult list), rediscovered ONF and I started to get into OnlyOneOf (I'm planning to do a discography dive of both groups soon). Let's not get started into the whole myriad of songs I discovered and loved. So yeah, this project of mine is going excellent and the experience as a whole has been super enjoyable and fun. You left one important reason tho, their vocal is so unique, it isn't like they have a complicated technique like other top group or kpop diva, but it sounds "mature", like never heard before in the land where high-pitched vocal is a common sense

Thank you for this video. I'm happy for the girls, they are very talented. What I fear is them getting a Stay C effect like : you do one cb less good than the previous one and a part of the fandom just leave them and say around them that the group has fell off.

REALLY GOOD!!

There is something that makes me concerned they wont reach further heights.
What separates the successful groups from the rest is their ability to stay in the kpop zeitgeist outside of their promotions. The song is popping off but the members are still relatively unknown. Individual popularity is as important as the groups popularity and the music quality.

I found them by chance when they had like 50 listeners max on spotify. I loved the music but was kinda sad that they were so unknown (i didn't check the number of listeners for a long time). I loved seeing them soar in popularity. I haven't seen a group with such amazing vocals in a long time. Most kpop vocals are at most bearable to me (even if the idols are good singers. It's a style problem) but I fell in love with fifty fifty first listen. I didn't even like Cupid all that much but I hope that its popularity will afford them a long and strong career. I can't wait to see more😊

It’s good for a nugu group but they need more sales in Korea to stay afloat, since groups like new jeans and ive get 1,000,000 sales per album w j pre orders

Taejiu, obviously this video applies to small company nugu groups rather than large companies with lots of $ and history to win local Korean fans to kick off popularity.
But additional elements of a winning group are (some mentioned by the CEO):
    --Unique quality voices
    --Member personalities
    --Catchy choreography

I think Doja cat is also a good example of how vitality can help you blow up and how to make it last, she's always trending, all the time, her songs blow up because they're trendy and she's a trendy person. And if were talking about vitality in tik tok Doja and Meghan Trainor are probably the most frequent artists trending and it's been great for them
