PLEASE NOTE: In this video I incorrectly state that the copy of 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' is an original sixties pressing, when it clearly has a barcode on the back. Please excuse the brain-fart, and no need to point it out to me in the comments. 😌
Your record collection will be significantly improved by the inclusion of Long Player by the Faces. That Ike and Tina album looks really interesting. Hendrix In The West is superb. A truly lifechanging record. I got into Hendrix already when I was about 17, way ahead of my peers, and I can remember how playing that live stuff would quell any any dissenting voices in the sixth form common room. The Proclaimers This is The Story got me through my divorce in 2000. Such passion in their delivery. A nice respectable wodge there. Well done.
My Hendrix gateway record was the famous hits album (can't think of the name now) which I had on vinyl but then somehow lost. He always struck me as an artist who needed to be seen live to properly grasp what he was about.
Wow congratulations James what a bunch of nice records and they all seem to be in really nice condition enjoyed the video now it's time to enjoy some sweet vinyl records 😊 Cheers mate and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Always nice to get some decent cheap records that a pal wants to get rid of. I’ve had that Byrd’s twofer for years. My first introduction to the Notorious Byrd’s Brothers LP, which I think is a sublime record. Played Joni’s For The Roses recently, it is a good one and yes, The Boho Dance is one of her masterpieces.
Thanks John. I agree about Notorious, a really great album. Joni is an artist who has been slowly drifting into focus for me for a number of years now. It's slow work finding her records though.
That Stone Roses was a crazy music buying moment. i was in shared house of 6.. I rushed home with the cassette, we all sat around the stereo in fevered anticipation, slowly drifting away one at a time, as the album stumbled on towards the end , never to speak of that moment again. Actually the opener is their best attempt at thet Zeppelin sound, but it a chore to listen to the whole thing.
@@jamesgriffithsmusic Yeah Begging You & Ten Story were decent. There may be a video idea in here, 'When you remember buying the album as being an event' particulaly as in the streaming age such a concept doesnt exist anymore. Thinking cap on!
Great stuff as ever James 😀🍿🎸🎶 Never listened to ‘Second Coming’; but absolutely love the Stone Roses’ S/T debut 🤩 Love Joni Mitchell; my favourite album of hers is ‘Lady Of The Canyon’ 😀 Great comp from The Jam 😎🎸 Keep up the awesome work as always James mate 🙌
Thanks Sam, you've outdone yourself with the smileys! Sorry I haven't got to your Xmas video yet, to be honest mate I really don't like Christmas songs, but I will watch when I've got over my bout of bah-humbug!
Hi James, This is an impressive collection of records: Dylan, Mitchell, etc. All great. I quite like those two Proclaimers records. Somehow I even have the 1994 original pressing of their third album, Hit the Highway. I have never heard of 9 Below Zero. And, believe it or not, I have never hear that Stone Roses album!
Hey Brian. Honestly, you didn't miss much with the second SR, though it has a couple of nice things on it. I never bought the Proclaimers back in the day so it'll be nice to get to know these records now.
Congrats on that John Mayall. I basically think that Clapton's a tool but if I got the chance to get that one, I'd jump at it. I can't agree with you about Sweetheart of the Rodeo. It's a bit strange as normally you're the one championing an underappreciated record and I'm a little skeptical. I really enjoyed your lyric readings in the Sad Bastards video. Cheers. Happy holidays.
Nice lot of collection staples and some intriguing detours and offramps, as well. Oddly enough I was thumbing through my Taj Mahal records last night including Natch'l Blues - I was just thinking mine had a different cover and then you mentioned it. Never seen a Byrds two-fer, I've got one by Spirit that combines their first two albums into one, again with different cover art (I later found the debut with its striking original cover on its own but the second still eludes so nice to have that two-fer as a placeholder). Remember finding that one in a run down thrift store in Arizona the first time I was there. Those Joni cover photos are taken not terribly far from me, apparently she had or maybe still owns some property on the coast here and the shots were snapped there - the "cheeky" ones apparently intended as her message to the record label. Cheers James!
Thanks for the info on Joni's cheeky Canadian locations! I don't think I'd ever seen a Byrds twofer either, and not having either of these particular records on vinyl it felt extra sweet. Cheers Doug, have a great Christmas!
Hi James. Nice faces lp. Any early rod Stewart. Cool Cpt beefheart. Nice Joni Mitchell. Tull cool. Fantastic Fleetwood Mac. Interesting Ike and Tina. Classic John mayall. Fantastic pickups.
This is the kind of thing I dream about but just never happens! Lots of classic LPs in the bunch. I bought a reissue of Let It Bleed a few years back but it just sounded awful to my ears. Never heard an original so don't know how it compared. I eventually got rid of it and a couple of years later got a later reissue which does sound better. The Byrds two-fer was my first Byrds set - my introduction to country rock, along with my favourite album of theirs. Bluejeans & Moonbeams was not one I particularly liked, but I really do like Unconditionally Guaranteed. Those first few Taj Mahal albums are all excellent. Surprisingly for me, given I wasn't all that keen on the other popular bands at the time, I really liked the Stone Roses first album, but I've never even heard their 2nd. All the best... Pete
It hardly ever happens to me either Pete. I have 'Unconditionally Guaranteed' on CD but haven't given it much attention - I should put that right. If I don't speak to you before, have a great Crimbo!
The Joni albums are fab. My Hissing of Summer lawns sounds good. Maybe thats a later version? Jethro Till This Was is also a good pick up.Quite Bluesy. Nice selection of albums and great for £60
That's one amazing haul for £45... Pete is a good mate to you, James. Either one of the Stone Roses, Second Coming 1st press and the Fleetwood Mac debut on Blue Horizon are worth more than what you paid.
I love Faces. I have thought about buying that version as i have a reissue, but i actually prefer the sleeve of the reissue. Maybe i should still have the original version as well. I just bought a single off Live And Dangerous. They explain it on the sleeve notes that Weller preferred the demo version of That's Entertainment which is why it's on Snap! All first three Taj Mahal's albums(plus live) are brilliant even though unfortunately Giant Step includes one real turd on it. If i remember correctly Hissing was Prince's fave Joni album. Pasi
Great to see these James, lots of great titles there. Nice Dylan originals. I love both of those Joni albums..For The Roses is probably my favourite of hers..Hissing of Summer Lawns is magnificent..I love the jazzy weirdness of some of the songs.. ' The Jungle Line" is an interesting one..I saw a Thomas Dolby live concert on TV years ago and he covered it. I remember 9 Below Zero on The Young Ones, I think it was a song called ' 11 plus 11'. I like ' Live and Dangerous ' although it irks me that it's not the most honest of live albums..then again, Hawkwinds' Silver Machine was also a heavily studio manipulated live recording and that sounds incredible. I used to have Snap, no idea what happened to my copy ??.
Listen to the bootlegs of Lizzy around this time and you might be surprised how accurate it is to how they were live. Less tinkered with than you think
Thanks Rob. Yes it was '11 Plus 11' that NBZ did on the Young Ones. I still haven't heard the Joni album that Dolby worked on...the two of them didn't get on at all. I can absolutely see why he'd have been impressed by The Jungle Line.
Of the early Dylan albums Another Side Of Bob Dylan and Freewheelin are my favorites. Notorious Byrd Brothers is also my favorite. Bluejeans and Moonbeams is under rated. This Was is the Jethro Tull that I play the most. The first three or four Rory Gallagher albums are so good.
I remember you saying you like Bluejeans, I'm pretty fond of it too though Beefheart hated it. I think Another Side is probably my favourite of the early Dylan albums.
@ It is always interesting to hear an artist’s assessment of their own material. Sometimes it is very enlightened but other times they are too personally invested to be objective.
Being offered someones old records fills me with a mixture of interest and dread 🙂. I want to have dibs on what they're offering, but it probably also means lots of stuff I'll probably never play that I couldn't leave behind.
Cool stuff! Your copy of "Another Side of Bob Dylan" is not an original pressing as you stated (UPC present on the back upper right hand side). I'm sure with such a big collection you got it confused with something else. That Byrds record is awesome. Cheers!
I’ve been busy and so not been watching UA-cam vids. I’m now on leave and your video popped up. Some excellent records James especially the Beano album which I picked up recently in mono. I’ll probs my watch some more you e released during 2024. Happy Christmas

Many good titles some I have some I'd like to have 😊. Love it when things like this fall into your lap. Happy listening James.
It doesn't happen very often so you gotta enjoy it when it does!
Great video James. Just wanted to thank you for turning me on to the Tindersticks a few videos back. Really enjoying their first 3 albums. Merry Xmas!
Great that you started listening to Tindersticks, thanks for letting me know. Have a great Crimbo!

Yeah totally agree though side 1 definitely has his moments. I forgot to mention 'Begging You', that's a bit of a belter. Compliments of the season!

Hi Joe. I need to give Sweetheart a few more spins I think. I'm inclined to agree about Clapton's toolishness.

The two most underrated Captain Beefheart records (I got a fancy record store day Spotlight Kid earlier this year lol) and Hendrix in the West! Nice!
I didn't know Spotlight Kid had come out as part of RSD. I wonder how many people bought it!
It's a two record set on clear vinyl. 2nd disc is mostly instrumental outtakes
The Joni albums are fab. My Hissing of Summer lawns sounds good. Maybe thats a later version? Jethro Till This Was is also a good pick up.Quite Bluesy. Nice selection of albums and great for £60
Think it's just the condition of the record that makes 'HOSL' sound not great - bit fuzzy in places despite several cleans.
That's one amazing haul for £45... Pete is a good mate to you, James. Either one of the Stone Roses, Second Coming 1st press and the Fleetwood Mac debut on Blue Horizon are worth more than what you paid.
