My 540i has 385,000 k on it. Now and again it stalls, then other times it will run fine. I considered changing the fuel pump, but I might pull the filter out and see what's inside. Apart from this it runs extremely well. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for all the informative videos. Which BMW application told you about the airflow issue? I'm just now starting to learn about INPA, ISTA, Rheingold, etc. But not sure which of these applications can indicate problems before they turn into codes that can be read by basic OBD scanners. TIA!

What's the 3rd line for that's not attached to the filter but held up by the same hangers (the one closest to outside of car)?

I'm pretty sure my fuel filter in my 540 is the original one from 97' 😂 Haven't had a problem with it though and gas here in Sweden is usually of very high quality, but still, that old fuel fulter gotta go soon.
Car has 200 000 km on it.

J Gripen you should change it, eventho it runs fine it strains your fuelpump. You'll possibly notice some performance increase

So this happened to my car today, thinking about the filter. The car started but it bogged down and died, cranked but didn’t start for a while, went and disconnected and reconnected the fuel pump relay in the trunk and it started right up for 15 seconds and then it died again. Now it starts but it won’t stay on.

got a few issues. BMW struggles to start. then it starts. Switch engine off and struggles to restart but it does after about 10 secs. then another issue. Key in Ignition. car starts up good. run for a while. turn off. key out. key in and well shit the system livens up and ffails to turn over let alone crank. Repeat this several time in 1 min then eventually it starts to crank. can you help . 525 TDS, 1997 can just purchased with 200K kms on the clock and no history at all.

Awesome Video Nathan, I repaired my fuel injectors and I started my car up. My car sounds like a Shelby Cobra (magnaflow cat) but my car kills out around 500 RPM's. Ive checked my MAF, ICV, fuel rails, vaccume & leaks on '97 540i automatic.
I am very lost at what it might be, any suggestions will be very helpful.

Is it hard to diagnose MAF? Will it throw a code to point at it easily?

    Hi.
Is it recommended to replace the fuel filter when replacing the fuel pump?
    Thank you

    • @Foxbat1155
      @Foxbat1155 4 роки тому

I personally think so, fuel filter is cheap, and if it is clogged, it is going to damage the new fuel pump.

My e39 cut off on me twice. I had like a quarter tank and it cut off. Is it the fuel pump and filter ? I was on the gas and it wouldn’t accelerate. What do you think ?

Open secret to not to let your E39 go below quarter tank! It’s like Mogwai at midnight…. Gremlins!

Tbh man this guy is a hack of a mechanic. He uses cheap parts & then goes on a rat chase with other issues and the customer probably is left with an insane bill. I have seen both fuel filters & ICVs break on these cars, so for him to say "I've never seen these fail" outlines his inexperience with these cars. It's a red flag when people talk in definites.

@Erickthepro 2008 and, to be helpful maybe - I was having a problem with my e38 where it would randomly sputter and die, usually while sitting and idling (several times at stop lights! O_O) and sometimes it wouldn't start. That's about all the details I remember. Did some digging on bimmerforums and came across a guy who had the same symptoms to a "t" and he swore that changing the crankshaft sensor would fix it. So I did, and - it did. CRANKshaft sensor (the much much easier one to change on that car). Fixed it excellently. No more idle problems, no more sputtering and dying. That was an e38 though. 1995 740 to be precise.

Lawd Fadda, I just can't resist!....... Right from the start, this was a very poor video of continuous events and failures! "seemed entirely like guesswork and trial an error troubleshooting! Change anything and everything until we get it right! But,>>>>>>>
It brings me back to something my father always said to me....The more bells and whistles you have on a car, the more that can go wrong! "IN OTHER WORDS, KEEP IT SIMPLE"! Fuel Filter?? KEEP IT BLOODY SIMPLE!!!!!!!
As for your promotional products, well you do that as much justice as you do the entire video. Shameful in my opinion! The least you could do it look up their website, learn what they have to offer and the benefits of each item. You could not even spend the time let alone explain and detail their product!!
If I could give you a 1000.00 dislikes, I would!
