Heads up for those with nut allergies! Recently it came out in the british news that food contining mustard is likely to have traces of nuts in them, be extra careful guys🙏🏾🙏🏾.
Couldn't thank you enough for amplifying this topic because it is upsetting knowing the mount of food stores and catering employees who continuously serve food containing allergens and surprisingly still wouldn't be able to read out all the ingredients🙆🏾‍♀️smh.

@@LPzzxz Thank you SO much for sharing this information! That’s such an important heads-up for anyone with nut allergies. Cross contamination is NOT a game. It’s frustrating and upsetting to see how often people fail to take allergies seriously or aren’t trained to properly handle them. Nonetheless, thank you for helping spread awareness! 🫶🏾✨

@Queentiwa of course🫶🏾. It really does warm my heart when server's offer to make the food from scratch and clean the appliances even after I'd normally decline and ensure them I'm just trying to stay safe. It's really up to any customer to continue buying the food after the appliances are cleaned and made from scratch so I wouldn't say any customer should feel shame for allerting the servers of their allergies! and advise them to be extra careful when preparing! Stay safe x🙏🏾🙏🏾

I feel like there's also a difference in how certain allergies are treated. I feel like more common allergies like tree nut/peanut tend to be more "acceptable" (though as seen in those news stories are not always taken as seriously as they should be) whereas allergies like garlic, tomato, etc. are seen as "weird" and get that "omg how can you live without that!" reactions even though, as you said, the person did not CHOOSE to have that fucking allergy and would of course rather not have it! So wild.

every second of this is so validating and such a good reminder (for me, super socially anxious) to advocate for myself and take my allergies seriously when others won't. I have so much trouble asking staff at restaurants for accommodation. also I've always wanted to travel to japan but have allergies that would make it hard so this is really encouraging!

This almost made me cry 🥹 (happy tears)
My fiancé and I live in Japan. He’s from Canada and I’m from the states and he has a sever nut allergy among other allergies. He says one of the reasons he wanted to move to Japan was because of how they handle allergies.
As you have said, people here are very accommodating and honest and we can always find yummy food to eat.
It broke my heart when he said how blessed he felt by me being accommodating to his allergies because, like you said, it’s the bare minimum!
Great video! I’m glad you’re enjoying Japan!

I've travelled with my friend with a latex allergy. Never did i think I'd be arguing with boat crew that i think the guests will care less about valentines balloons getting taken down than about having a dead body on board! If i tell you a thing will kill someone, don't act like I'm overreacting in the middle of the ocean! I'm glad you're having such a good experience in your trip with ppl respecting your allergies!

@@alexandramoore8200 Thank you so much for advocating for your friend. It really does go along way when those of us with allergies are with others who respect our needs and make sure that we are safe. It’s such a shame that people act like it’s such an overreaction when people with allergies let them know about their specific needs and accommodations.

Great info and energy. I wish everyone well and be safe out there. I no longer ask for any accommodations. I only just recently figured out I have a full blown dairy allergy. My whole life, people normalized my skin hives, rashes, burning skin, itch, depression, anxiety, shame, embankment, fear, aches, cramps, fatigue, always getting colds, fevers. I got hives from scalp to ankles. Then they would all blister and my skin hardens, flakes, shed like a snake. Repeat. For a whole two years.
I was so depressed and helpless I just read a small blurb online about elimination diet to determine what the food allergens might be. So I thought long and hard what all I eat regularly and what I tend to crave.
    1. I'm a major sweet tooth!
    2. Most of my cravings consists of sweets, baked sweets, chocolates, creams, cheesy snacks, cereal, smoothies, frappés etc. You get it, dairy!
So for one whole month it was extremely difficult to avoid dairy, it's in everything, literally everything. Salt and vinegar chips even?!!!!! OK.
In 2 months my skin was like a newborn! I had so much energy and motivation, I felt so light and no longer phlegmy ??? I felt renewed and positive.
Then I experimented. I had one little thing of dairy. In a few hours I had itch around my lips, burning, turning into bumps, wet eczema, oh, my word. The worst thing. It is unsightly and it is so stressful. So the most stress the more it flares up and SPREADS !!!!
SO MY own lesson to myself was everything is easily cross contaminated. Accidents will always happen. I've had it from time to time. My reactions have lessened in severity seems over the years if I accidently have something cross contaminated or even if it's fully one of the main ingredients. It's so strange how my body reacts now. But I take NO chances.
It's difficult to give up cheese. Plant based cheeses have a long way to go still, a long long way.
But traditional Asian and Southeast Asian desserts are typically plantbased and I prefer those over the modern fusions with dairy. No thanks.

I have an egg allergy and thought a tuna sub at Subway, (in Canada), would be OK, however within an hour I developed hives around my mouth and the next day my lips swelled, became inflamed, and peeled--they were cracking. Hello ER :( Two weeks later all is well and I've ixnayed Subway. Thank you for drawing attention to allergies.
