Great job Mark. I really like that they put two part trees into the kit. Gives a lot of room for customization. Painting the indicators was short but satisfying to watch.
Thanks my friend Dirk! Yeah, lots of spare parts left over on this build! Always come in handy one day. Glad I included the indicator painting, especially for you! Cheers!👍
Killer detail Mark, I gotta say you have such patience. Still don't know why Tamiya does not pre-cut the decals, Can't wait to see the running video. Always great to watch.
Thank you so much, Chris, you are very kind! Yeah, patience is something that comes with age, I never was when I was younger! Too right, these shiny stickers really should be pre-cut, they are sooo fiddly! Great to read you my good friend, hope all is well with you!
Hi Mark, well that was an exceptional job ( though I expected nothing less. ) A beautiful looking shell and RC, and a wise move to get a basher shell. Impressive too that you bothered to paint in the windscreen rubber, many folk don't bother with that, but if you want perfection... !! I've done that job many times for myself or other blokes at the truck club, but they usually want them in chrome - I never thought to use masking...😣...Doh !! Your right too about putting the stickers over the recesses, they become a dust magnet and eventually screw up the sticker. As I said a beautiful looking RC. When you run it though, hopefully we'll see both shells in action, as it would be a shame not to see this one. Well done dude. Top job...🤩👍🏻.
Hello my good friend! Glad you got faith in me, I tell ya though, I was bricking it before starting the paint as I really didn't want to mess it up! Being a gift and a special edition and all that... Yeah, I just had to go EXACTLY box art for a change, so black windscreen rubber it was! Masking them just saves a load of faffing with the brush! And good to know it's not just me with the application of the stickers into recesses! Many thanks for the encouraging words, it really means a lot to me and helps spur me on in the same direction. I'm gonna look after this shell, but it will be run carefully at some point. Thanks again, dude! 🙏😊👍
Thank you Sir! I'm glad it's finished now, Nick, as I was stressing about messing the paintwork up! I always appreciate your taking the time to watch and comment, my friend! Take care!
Looks amazing. Did a great job! I used to have a few tamiya vehicles back when I was in my early teens. I'm in my mid 40's now and seriously thinking of getting back into the RC car hobby now that I have a pretty big yard
Hi there Mark, I’m speechless my friend! An absolute master class. I like the colour and Sheen, I believe is suits the aggressive nature of the truck. You do the same method for the window rubbers, as I do…I mask the surrounding area and hand paint them in. I am in ore ! You’ve really put some love into that bad boy! Best wishes to you all 😊😊
Many thanks, John! You are too kind my friend! Yeah, I agree that the matte colour suits this Clod down to the ground, very mean and moody! Glad it's not just me that goes to the trouble of masking the window frames! Too right, a lot of love did go into this, thanks for noticing, John! Cheers!
Well done mate, another great build done by the master builder! I look forward to seeing it running, looks really cool, in the summer I will build another sand scorcher and paint it bright yellow and get the aluminium wheels of eBay, this will be my third scorcher and last but the best .full light kit as well, I ain't done a build in over a year how time flies, thanks for your upload mate 👍🙏🐈
Thanks muchly, Cat! Yeah I'm chuffed with the result although I was really worried about messing up throughout the process! I will run it with this body on, but very carefully! That Sand Scorcher project sounds awesome, mate. It'll look fantastic in that colour scheme with the alloy wheels and lights blazing! Sending you good wishes, mate!👍
I stick the decal directly to the side, split it down the middle and wrap it around the edges of the cab and box.. one thing I really like about this edition of the clod is the retro style decals vs the ones that look like a ground pounder
Hi Thad - yes that's a better way to apply that sticker I think! We live and learn! I totally agree about the retro decals on this version, so much better than the stock re-re version. All the best, my friend!
Hiya mate! Very kind of you to say my friend, I'm so pleased you called me a "seasoned person" rather than an old man! 🤣 All the best to you, cheers! 🙏👌😊👍
Mark you are an absolute master when it comes to this bud! It looks incredible and the decals there matey are spot on! Top work and now it is time to bash matey!!
You are too kind, Craig! I am loving the look of the finished rig, Tamiya got the design of this one right, as usual! Definitely bash time coming, but maybe not with this body on it! Cheers, dude! :)
Great job, Mark! Uhh yeah, always the tricky part, putting the stickers on so no dirt will get in. I’m always struggling with the edges in certain places. They just come off no matter how much I rub them down, and then dirt gets in and then game over. Too difficult to explain in English though. Anyhow, beautiful Clod. Great that you went all the way, with the sanding and paint. Looks amazing. I enjoyed the video. Good nail job ☺️
Hello my good friend, Mikael! Oh yes, agree about the tricky sticker sticking!!! 🤣 I have the same problem with some sticker sets that just seem determined to come unstuck! But then others seem to stay adhered for years, I just don't get it! Anyway, thanks for the great words and I'm glad you like my efforts to detail this awesome model. Cheers! 🙏😉👍
It looks fantastic! They really nailed it with the color combo on this one! When I put the clod buster stickers on the side I ran them right over the cab/bed gap and once it was down I went back in and cut the sticker with a hobby knife in the center of the grove and stuck it down to both sides. The only reason is I didn't know if it would look scrunched up by stuffing it in the gap. Your looks fine so I probably could have done the same! You are going to love running it! It is not a speed demon but it drives and bumbles around just like the monster trucks of the 80s!!
Thank you Addam! You know, I watched your Clodbuster video a couple of times and was squinting at the screen trying to work out how you'd done those stickers! Yours looked great and thanks for telling me how you did it! Yeah, I was worried about scrunching it up in the gap, we think along similar lines! Oh yes, can't wait for the weather to pick up a little so I can experience that bouncy 80's ride! Cheers!
That looks great! I started a Clod Buster Black Edition in 2021 and life got in the way so I'm just back at it now in March 2024. I had to fix the crosses in the hood as well - they were deep and so I used some filler since the final color will be high gloss black. There was also a significant mold line from the driver side hood panel line along the windshield and above the drip edge.
Thanks! Wow that was a long time in the making, but at least you got it finished! I did think about using filler but took the lazy way out! And yes, I had the same issue with mould lines too!
@@MarkBryanRC I'm just about ready for a clear coat and noticed a few other molding issues I wish I could have corrected before getting 6 layers deep. I will live with them, maybe I'll get another body and fix them on the next haha. Getting ready to spray the clear coat next - I'll upload a video when I'm done!
Oh I know what you mean! The more you look the more you find, but I'm sure it will look awesome when finished! I think a basher body is a must, these break so easily!
Great work on that body shell Mark! Love the Matt finishing and it’s great you managed to get rid of the imperfections from the molding process. Looking forward to seeing this monster in action!👍😊
Thanks so much, Sean! Yes I agree, it was a nice surprise to find the TS paint was matte! It came out well in the end thank goodness. Looking forward to a nice gentle first run my friend, cheers! 👍
Hi Jeremy, you are very kind my friend. I must admit that I'm really pleased with this special Clodbuster, I think it's a new favourite! Thank you as always! Cheers! 🙏😊👍
That's interesting the double parts in different colours. The Matt finish of the paint I like a lot, but trying to paint this time of year is a pain. It has come out so nice, the decals are closer to the original Clod than the first Super Clod.
Hi Mal - yeah you get a lot of spare parts in this kit, always keep them because you never know! Yeah I was lucky, it was so hot in the greenhouse I had to take my jumper off!!! I prefer these stickers, too. All the best, mate!
Wow, that Clodbuster looks amazing, you've done a brilliant job!! I would love a Clodbuster, not sure what colour I'd do it though. Awesome video as always mate👍👍
Thanks so much, Barry! I must say I'm chuffed with the way it turned out. But yeah, I think this rig would look awesome no matter what colour scheme you choose! All the best my friend! 😊

Oh yes time flies! Even though I'm retired I still have no time! Sorry you have to go to work tomorrow, but somebody's gotta do it! I've done my 44 years work! Yeah, editing is tedious, but worth doing as it tidies the video up - I cut this footage down from 70 minutes to 17!!! Have a great week, mate! 🙏👍
Now that's how to do a Tamiya body shell mate..... Oooh I do love a hard body! 😉 Wonderful job there Mark! 🙏👌 It's clearly obvious that you have much experience in this process, and comes across very professional. As someone who has done many hard shells I can highly commend the way you went about this.... from the spraying preparation /technique, the use of props to hold smaller parts as you painted them, the cutting of the decals(including the removing a small corner of the backing in order to endure correct alignment) ensuring flush Decal contact in the crevices (and yes, dirt does get behind and lift them if not done correct) right the way through to the masking/painting the small detail. You have a much steadier hand than me mate, I have to use paint pens for the window frames! What a cracking job, you really done this iconic truck justice bud! Shame on Tamiya regarding those production inperfections in the body, most unlike them. I've never seen that before on any other models other than the grey edition clod? This shell MUST be kept as a display body..... especially as this rig is renowned for wheelies and tumbles. Plenty of basher shells come up on ebay for when you unleash the beast with on the hob Rob! 🤣 Looking forward to seeing her in action mate! 😊 👍 👍 👍 👍
Hi James and thanks so much for the encouraging comment. Not done too many hard bodies, about 4 now I think, definitely a different challenge compared to Lexan bodies, more difficult overall, I think... I do try to appear professional, but it really isn't the case, I'm just good at editing! 🤣 As you know, much of the processes are just common sense and the use of logic. Trial and error often comes into play, too! As I get older my hands do shake more so I have to hold my breath! It helps a little! And, no, I've never seen a Tamiya body with so many imperfections before, very strange and very annoying! I will run this body for the camera at least once, but fear not, It will be cherished and a basher replacement found for everyday running. Thanks again for your thoughtful comments, take care, mate! 🙏😉👍
Hi Glenn! Yes it is a lovely thing to behold. Hope you get things sorted out and can get going on yours when you are ready. I know what you mean, these RC cars take up far more space than you'd imagine! Cheers! :)
Thank you very much! Tamiya TS paint is designed to be applied directly to plastic. The instructions also tell you to apply the paint without primer. I hope this answers your question! Cheers!
Hiya Mark. That was really great and a brilliant result. I'm very impressed at you doing the painting and stickering on camera. Did you protect the camera lens in any way from the paint floating about in the air. I can't believe that some people span that gap with the sticker! I guess you could do that and then run a knife down the centre and press the ends into the space but there would be a little gap. This is definitely one that you don't want to be turning over too much. That basher shell will come in handy. Top work on the truck and the vid. Best wishes mate 🙂
Hiya Pete. Glad you like it, as you know I was worried about the outcome but thankfully things went mostly to plan! Yeah, painting and stickering on camera is twice as tricky as doing it without filming. But no, I didn't protect the lens, the camera was quite far away and zoomed in so all was good. I think the way you suggest to apply that sticker is the best, I did think about that but went my usual more difficult way! Yeah I think I'll just gently trundle around with this body on for the camera and use a basher shell most of the time. Thanks for the cool comments, best to you too, mate! 🙏😉👍
Brother, I'm not sure how you got your hands on Tamiya's advertising/promotional Gray (Grey) body.... I don't think they did a better job mate!!!! That came out so fu@king sweet!!!! I looked at painting the headlight buckets and said to me self, "nope!". The matte finish is just like a battleship, so with that, flat seems right and it DOES look GOOD!!!! Out Fu@king Standing Mate!!!!! I'm a bit jelly over this..... Your window moldings (rubber seals) look spot on, the front marker lenses look spot on.... WOW!!!! At a loss for words dude. ATB my friend!!!!!!
Hi there my friend, and thanks so much for the awesome comments, I gotta say that I'm flattered! I don't think it's that good, but at least this old man is happy with his work and his very special Clod! I've got my fingers crossed that yours comes out as well as you hope, I'm sure you can do it my brother! Thanks again for all the help and advice, I couldn't have done it without you, mate. Cheers!
@@MarkBryanRC Mark, thanks so much for the comment back (swelled head). I hope mine comes out good too. Did you wash the body after scuffing it up (can't remember if you said in the video), I would think so. Seen Rob's video too, I did not comment on the part where he said "reach a finger around before screwing" I thought I should leave it alone, LMAO!!!! Brother, I can't wait to hear what you think about after driving it (it's 80's tech modeled after very early Monster Truck tech), the design is @ 35 years old. Yada Yada Yada.... I talk too much. ATB my friend and our best to one & all!!!!!!
@@UncleBobsRC Hi Bob! Yep, I actually rubbed the body down with wet abrasive using lots of soap and water. The paint stuck like glue, no problems! Haha, you got a dirty mind, bro - not like me!!! It may be a wile before I get that first run in, the weather is so crappy! ATB, mate!
@@MarkBryanRC Good to know about the paint. I guess it's time for me to get cracking on my body (as you know, I have those 400 to 3000 grit Tamiya sanding/polishing sponges). We got hit with 3 or 4 inches of snow last night and today its going to be around 40 degrees (@ 5.2 C) outside. You heard what Rob said didn't you? I laughed so hard my gut hurts.... I think a speed test is in order for mine, when I get it done.
That came out great, Mark! All that sanding and prepping really paid off, and a nice surprise with that nice matt finish on it, I like that as well! It's definitely a cool RC, now I'm looking forward to see it in action, will it be on its own or together with Rob's? I'll just wait and see, ha ha! I do have a small question, I noticed your camera angle, you you have the camera above your head, or is it across the table, and you flip the image in the editing software? Reason I ask is I just had a go at shooting a build video, I think my camera angle was a bit odd, but I'm definitely not taking the model apart and shooting it again, ha ha! All the best, my friend, have a great week ahead!
Thanks a ton, Mads! Yeah, the matte finish was a surprise, I thought all TS paints were gloss! I prefer the flat paint on this truck though so all is good. Not spoke to Rob about the run video yet, we will see! Ah, yes, the camera is overhead. I like to film it so you guys get to see it as I do, first person, as it were! Haha, no, I wouldn't take a model apart again just for the camera, either! I hope your week is going well too, my friend, cheers!
Many thanks, Simon! Ahh, the vertical panel line on the front wing? Not sure about that dude as there are lines on the top of the wings where a bonnet would normally open - now you got me wondering!!!!
You sure did a really nice job on painting and detailing the body! Did you primer the body before painting? I didn’t see that part. Also do you spray a clear coat on your stuff when done?
Thanks, Brian! No I didn't use primer, the instructions don't call for it and they are correct, the top coat goes on nicely straight on the plastic. Also, I didn't use a clear coat as I like the look as it is. However, I have used a gloss clear coat on other hard bodies to good effect. All the best! :O)
@@MarkBryanRC ok thanks for the heads up as I’m planning on how I want to do mine, I have the same kit. Although I do like the lighter grey better the way it comes, but paint is better for sure. I will run this body for the camera at least once, but fear not, It will be cherished and a basher replacement found for everyday running. Thanks again for your thoughtful comments, take care, mate! 🙏😉👍

All good matey, look forward to seeing the running videos!

Thank you my good friend, Dom! Cheers! 🙏😉👍
Awesome job dude looks brilliant ❤️🔥👍🤩🏅
Thank you so much, Pete! I must say I'm pretty chuffed with how it came out! Cheers! 🙏👌👍😁
great work and tip there marky stunner of a body on the clod one of my favs 👍
Thanks Davey bro! Yeah, this is a new fav of mine, can't wait to run it mate!👍
Cracking looking truck. I think my Black one will be built in the Autumn if/when the model room is sorted so I have the Storage space for it.
Hi Glenn! Yes it is a lovely thing to behold. Hope you get things sorted out and can get going on yours when you are ready. I know what you mean, these RC cars take up far more space than you'd imagine! Cheers! :)
@@MarkBryanRC cheers.... 2023 is going to have a LOT of changes, hopefully for the better
Same here, mate, fingers crossed! 🤞😉👍
Looks superb. Wish these were available in the UK ☹️
Thanks very much, Martin! Oh yeah, it's a shame this is USA only, I was so lucky that the RC Elf shipped this one to me all the way to the UK! 😉🙏👍
Great work enjoying the videos
Hi James! Many thanks for watching and commenting my friend! 🙏😊👍
Great work and thank you for this demonstration! Can I ask why you decided not to use a primer coat?
Thank you very much! Tamiya TS paint is designed to be applied directly to plastic. The instructions also tell you to apply the paint without primer. I hope this answers your question! Cheers!
@@MarkBryanRC Thank you!
@@fantasticplasticadventures You are very welcome! :)
Great work Mark. Is the panel line on the front wing part of the design. Is it meant to be a how the front opens.
I’ve always used Tamiya primers under Tamiya paints , because I thought that was the way to do it. Thanks for the nice video
Hi and thanks for the reply! I agree about the lighter colour but the matte paint does look nice! Best of luck with your bodywork! Cheers! :)
