Thanks for the great video and tips around handling the AP and an ILS approach. Have been trying to accomplish this and found it challenging but completed my first full ILS approach right over the numbers as you suggested. Particularly like the idea of getting on the approach course via AP then setting the HDG mode before switching to the APR mode which provides a very smooth transition into the ILS. Had to also remember to switch out of the ALT mode to allow the AP to find the GS. Thanks.
Quick way to get the freq in the TBM for the ILS runway is from the MFD. Hit the Waypoint option to bring up a search for airports, type in your destination ICAO code, hit enter, hit FREQS and you'll get a list of all freqs for that airport in a scrollable list. From there (usually at the bottom) are the ILS freqs for each equipped runway, hit the freq and it will allow you to enter it into STBY or ACTIVE for both NAV1 and NAV2 (active on nav1 being what most probably want 🙂).
Well done. I was surprised that the TBM seemed to be unable to capture LOC or GS; wasn't aware (i.e. hadn't checked!) that the LOC freq may not be dialled in correctly or the correct approach not being selected even if it says it is on the top of the menu system. Good catch. Sub'd.
Nice video, thanks for sharing! Would you explain maybe in another video the difference between the LOC and APP in the A320 or the 747? App is fine, but i miss what LOC does.. Anythime I am closed to the runaway and turn LOC on, it takes me completely somewhere else...
You probably didn't have the localizer frequency tuned in right or did have the active nav to nav1 vs FMS. I will have to do my research on the a320! Stay tuned
Yeah it Takes you somewhere Else, If you're A: Not Close enough, or B: wrong frequency. A shouldn't Happen, but the Autopilot is still Not working correctly
This was super helpful!!! Definitely my favorite plane and the one I'm working on memorizing the most. You basically never touch the yoke right? Only those last few moments before landing? Man I've definitely been doing this the hard way! haha
You called the GLIDE SLOPE (GS) on the score board the GPS way too many times to count around the 18 minute mark. Pro-Tip... Nav source should be on GPS until on final and CLEARED FOR THE APPROACH (Not once you're close enough).
thecorporatepilotdad I’ll have to check on what I called it haha but thanks for the pro tip! This video is meant for the newer pilots and simmers who need some direction to make it work. When I fly for fun in the game I’m usually using VATSIM and trying to follow strict protocol to the best of my ability within the sim!
@@thecorporatepilotdad I appreciate to comment! I'm uploading a new simple video for ILS that is a shorter and less in depth video for anyone who just wants to try it without learning approach plates!
You can configure your own custom preset views for each plane using (ALT + CTRL + any number you want) then access that by using (ALT + NUM ) Personally I use a Track IR on my head, so I can look around the cockpit! Then I use the arrow keys to shift around my position if needed!

Hope to see more videos from you again soon - but please please fix your audio, can hardly hear you.
I'm glad you learned something. That was my first video for this channel and I'm going to redo the ILS video today. I have posted two other tutorials so let me know if those sounds better and let me know what content or tutorials you'd like to see yourself!
That was quite helpful. Any chance of a tutorial on doing more or less the same with the Cessna Citation's system? I'm a flight nurse and we actually fly lear 35's but the citation is the closest thing so far in MSFS2020 so it's fun to simulate some of my real world flights with it.
Is it possible to get the localiser frequency by asking the radio tower instead of using websites outside of the game? Thanks for the clear and instructive video for the aeroplane, my favourite plane to fly in the game so far. The plane is seemingly simple as it doesn't have too many buttons. A great start for your new channel. Do you fly in real life? If so, are any planes that you fly in real life in the game and how well simulated are they in your opinion?
I chose the TBM because it's the most flown plane in the game and it's relatively simple to use. To answer your question, in short, no. You cannot ask ATC IN GAME for the ILS frequency. When you plug it in on the MFD, it should, in theory, plug it in for you but it is NOT working at the moment. The only way to get it, is to find it yourself unfortunately. I wish they made it more simple for non-pilot simmers. For now, I recommend using skyvector and if that's too much work then choose an RNAV approach which is fully done via GPS, no frequencies needed. Good Luck! Fly Safe!
I am a real world pilot and I've flown the Bonanza G36 and all the Diamond aircraft (that's what I learned to fly first) The cockpits are identical and look amazing! The functionality of all the buttons and screens aren't implemented but it's good enough. And overall flight characteristics are pretty good but not perfect but at the end of the day the sim looks so darn good that I really can't complain at the moment and I'm sure it'll get better over time!
I'll have to check on that. I'm not sure if it actually gives the LOC frequency or the tower freq. And what if there are 8 ILS's? Would it give you the right one? I'll do some research! But thanks for sharing!
