- Finally upgraded my 2016 Charger 5" display unit with a 2015 Charger 8.4" Uconnect unit! So far everything works! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!

How did you get the Anti-Theft Code?
I waited to until I received/installed the unit to see if they sent the code (they didn’t) and then to see it if would require a code. I ended up buying the service on eBay. Gave the seller my radio serial number and they provided the code. Think I spent $20.

Did you have to buy a the new ac thing with the button split and one side says auto? An did you have to buy another radio with the sd card slot or were you able to just buy the screen?
You didn't have to replace your ac or CD player system? It seems everytime I saw someone upgrade they had to upgrade their entire system to work with new screen. Was this not the same case for you?
How do I disable the 4G cellular service from the charging radio how do I remove the antenna for the 4g

I hooked up the 8.4 and my 2017 dodge Challenger 8.4 was out of a 2016 challenger which it works fine no problems except for I get a mirror pop up on the screen every now and then just need to know if I need to change theinterior mirror and are there wires for it?

Should just be the screen. There are vids of people doing this upgrade to their Challengers.
Which input did you put for xm to work. I had a light blue wire input it into the brown input on the radio
It’s been a minute, no longer have that car. The colors matched in both my units.
I swapped out my seats in my ‘20 scat and the seats are also ventilated do you know if i swapped tge Uconnect i would have that ventilation option in my controls? Or can i get that option in a different way?
Man, I’m not too sure. I would think it would have to be activated if wiring harnesses are already present.
This has become a real challenge. I did get an RF4 radio. Odometer was flashing, volume control didn't work, rear speakers only, no balance, no fade. Went to two Chrysler dealers. First told me it was a VIN mismatch, and there was nothing they could do. Charged me $100. Didn't even stop the odometer from flashing. Second just agreed with the first and declined to look at it. I hit "restore factory defaults" and all the radio features came back. I thought I had it licked, except for the odometer. Not exactly. Every time I shut off the car it reverts back to the way it was, and I have to restore to factory defaults again. I'm not impressed with the dealers. If I can do more than them by pressing one button, I think they should be capable of synching it so it works properly.
Man, sorry you ran into issues. Was the unit from the same year and model as yours?
@@68Charger Basically, yes. Chrysler 200. Of course, there are different trim levels. Fits perfectly, and is a 5 minute install, but it won't work and can't work. I don't know why FCA was being so petty about this. You can't improve your own car, if you want to at your own expense?
Only thing I can think of is that it originally was a fleet car for the rental market, and I guess they just didn't want it upgraded.
@@pluggy86 Chrysler 200 unit on a 200 or on a Charger/Challenger? I had heard that 200 unit were not compatible. I remember reading that Charger and Challenger units were interchangeable (same bolt holes) and that Ram ones would work but the holes would be off. I can’t remember on Durangos and Jeep models.
@@68Charger It was a 200 radio for a 200. Some guys posted UA-cam videos showing the install. I think some were good to go right away. Others had problems similar to mine and said you just flash it at the dealer. Mine can’t be flashed and it can’t take an 8.4 inch radio at all, even though it fits perfectly if you buy the bezel.
Yea a Challenger, Charger or Chrysler 300 are all compatible with each other , the rest aren’t

Hey Mike, I got it off Ebay. For my car (2016) I read that '15 and '16 Challenger and Charger uconnect units were compatible and I ended up finding a '15. I am not sure about '17. I would just look for a '17 unit Ebay to ensure compatibility.
If my charger sxt comes with the 7 inch screen without sport functions can I still upgrade the screen to an 8 inch?

No. They are different radios. Even the 2015 isn’t fully compatible with the CarPlay one and you have to add extra stuff.
I just purchased the 8.4 for my 2016 Challenger. Where on the back do you hook up a back up camera? Which colored pin?
If your car is already wired for one, you just match the colors. I don’t have the car anymore, but you can google the connection setup.
Do you knkw if it will work with the older dodge (2013 dodge charger)? And which one will work best?
Not sure. I know the radios were different for those years.
If I upgrade can I call the dodge dealer ship and give them the serial number to the new radio and car I got it from will they provide the code ?
They should, just not sure how much the will charge you. I used an eBay service, cost around $20

I currently drive an 2016 SXT Challenger w/ the default 5" u connect screen. Since I don't have a back up camera or GPS, will I be able to utilize the map on the more expensive option of the 8.4 (with GPS), or should I consider getting the one without a GPS?
Hey man, that would really be your choice. If I am not mistaken, sxt trims and up (at least in Chargers) are prewired for the back up camera. You might only need the backup camera and gps antenna if you go that route.
@@68Charger thanks for replying. The back up camera I'm not too interested in since I have an aftermarket spoiler (the camera lense is located on the spoilers of the OEM), but it's the GPS that I have my heart set on.
Did all the controls work after the upgrade? Lights, locks, climate control... everything that is in the uconnect settings?
So far yes. My Charger is a 16 SE Blacktop. After the install I was able to change the steering to sports mode. I haven’t activated the uconnect feature, mainly because it’s $15 a month and not sure if it’s worth it. (Have heard mixed reviews). I does give me the option to activate when I click on the icon.
Will this mess car up in anyway? I’m thinking of changing mine out! I have the 2021 Dodge Charger and mine has a 7 inch screen and I want the 8 bad! That’s the only thing I don’t like about this car
I only did research on my 16 Charger, but is my understanding that it that you should be able to switch the the bigger screen. Good luck!
Does the 8.4 have any audio upgrades compared to the 5?
Not sure about audio upgrades. You do get more controls/features of the entire car

It was my understanding that only Challenger, Charger, and 300s were interchangeable. I think ram ones work but mounting holes won’t align.
Can you connect backup camera to it ?

Sold the car a few years ago, i believe the Uconnect has an input for the camera. My car did not come equipped with one. I got the code off eBay. I sent the the radio number and they provided the code.
My valume is high and can’t lower it what can I do to fix to my 8.4

I plan on doing this to my 2016 pursuit charger. It currently has the 5 inch uconnect radio. I don’t have Sirius xm on mine, did you have to add an antenna for that or did your car come with Sirius xm with the 5 inch screen?

Because I was told that if I changed from the factory radio to the 8.4 I would lose the capability of having heated steering wheel and seats
Not sure, I did have some people tell that.
You’ll only lose the capability to turn them off manually. They will still turn on.
Did it give you access to anything that your previous 5 inch didnt have

Hey Roman, my understanding is the 15 and 16 Challenger/Charger Uconnects are interchangeable. Mine came out of a ‘15 Charger SRT and it works fine. Keep in mind that features that did not come with your car will not show up on the screen (heated seats, etc...) let me know if you end up getting one. Good luck!

Hey bro I found one from 2016 durango will it work on a 2016 charger se model obviously these models don't have the shark fin antenna.
I’m not sure, I know some models aren’t compatible. I think Ram Uconnects work but the mounting holes don’t align. I think I remember reading that Jeep and Durango ones wouldn’t work. Didn’t want to spend that much money on something I wasn’t sure was going to work.

Not sure. Mine wasn’t equipped with a reverse camera.
How did it not require something called "proxy alignment" after that?
I think that is only for Darts and 200s. Mine didn’t require anything. It was just plug and play.
@@68Charger nice, I have a 2019 Dodge Neon, when I upgraded my 5 inch display to a 7 inch uconnect unit my odometer kept flashing. Did some googling and found out about that proxy alignment thing.

I'm not sure. It originally came from a 2015 charger. I wasn't planning on getting apple car play.
Did this change affected your climate control for steering and heated seats?
My Charger did not come equipped with heated seats or climate control.

I'm not sure. It originally came from a 2015 charger. I wasn't planning on getting apple car play. I did some research a while ago and saw people that added it, but the apple carplay feature was not touch screen, you had to move the radio buttons to select different features. I didn't want to mess with that.
So I have a question I did this upgrade when I had my 12 charger and the climate would always show 22 degrees I have a newer one and am thinking of doing this upgrade does your climate actually move when changing it to warm or cold and does it stay on it
Hey Deron, I haven't had any issues since upgrading to the 8.4 uconnect from my 5" radio. The climate features are working the same.

Do you have auto climate on your charger? Can you confirm if your climate screen on your new 8.4 actually shows an actual temperature or does it just place the dials randomly at 22°?
Hey Deron, I apologize, I think I misunderstood your question. My car did not come with auto climate control so the actual screen does not show degrees, but it does work the same as my old 5" radio.
Hey Jerod, my car does not have auto control. It does not show degrees on the screen. In another video, I installed a climate control module from a challenger Scat Pack that came with the sports mode button and the "auto" button for climate control. Every button worked on it with the exception of the auto button. I started looking at ways to get the auto climate to work but have been focusing more on the 68 Charger lately.

Came from a 15 Charger. It is my understanding that Chargers, Challengers, and 300s are compatible. Was not planning on adding apple car play.

I ordered a Chrysler 200 8.4 Uconnect from a junkyard and installed it yesterday into a Dodge Charger 2016 SE, and everything works like it’s supposed to. When you first turn it on it says Chrysler, but 1-2 minutes later it cuts off and Dodge appears on the screen. The UConnect has four screws, but only the two on the bottom line up the two screws on top don’t match. I used zip ties for the top two and I’m happy with it. One last thing you will need a pigtail wire, because the 911 pops up from time to time. Thanks for the review
How did u get the right code to put in. To get the radio to work ?
I found a service on eBay. Gave them my Uconnect’s serial number and they sent me the access code.

But he wants $500 for it I’m thanking bout going get it cause he told me he would put it in for me to make show it’s done right for me. So what u thank ? How how much they are ? Will it work on a 2015 charger?
It should work on 15+ Charger/Challengers. I would try to stay in the same year range of car/uconnect to ensure compatibility.
Did you have fitment issues with the dash bezel after the upgrade??
No issues, uconnect is oem and was a direct fit.
@@68Charger yea. My dash bezel doesn’t fit flush anymore... don’t want to cut it.. don’t want to buy a used one since my car only has 1500 miles on it lol

Hey Brandon, I am not sure. I know '15 and '16 Chargers used the same uconnect units. I think after '17 or '18 they upgraded to a new one. Let me know if it works!

I think I spent an additional $70 or $80. I had the buy the unlock code and a 911 connector to make a warning disappear. It’s totally up to you, man.

I think you have to get a unit that already has Apple/Android carplay installed, same with navigation.
