These techniques never gets old. You need to sell this dvd online for all the 125cc-150cc riders, video is old but can still be applied to our riding style 2022.

I remember when Hershel Smith moved into our area in Ludington Michigan, (Son Kelly Smith was about 6 years old I think). The jumps were just starting to get big, and he was the first to make them on two of the 8 private tracks we had to ride on back in those days, (all grown in today). They were very steep and pretty close together and pretty loose dirt. I was doing them, (scared as heck), but coming up short and removing the peak of the landing jump. When I got done doing a few laps, I took off my helmet,---and got the dry heaves.
    That was new. :)

"Puppy shit!" A phrase a Foosball player/friend would say when "I" made a hard shot look easy. :)

A lot of people say go wide open, but I'm almost never wide open. Maybe on a 125, but on my 250x if I was wide open I feel like I'd be in the river or stuck in a tree. I'm just not comfortable at those speeds yet. Which is why I've only gotten a 10th place finish I guess.

Ryan man: I have a comment/question about an entity of riding technique evolution that I think is bad, and would like to know your take on it. Now I took almost 2 decades off right after the 2007 MXofN, (My last attended race), but am again on a 2019 YZ250 2-stroke, (of which set up was quite a project, lowering a bit and getting Michigan CCC trail ready.). I tried the lever/bar set up I see the pros use today, but went back to the levers pointing down,--so I can keep my elbows up. I think the riders have evolved to a more "low elbow" riding style, and I think it is the "end factor cause" of a lot of crashes. A great example is one of Chase Sexton crashes at the last 2022 national, (that James covered on his show, and he did not see it.), where Chase lost traction out of a inside line left hand corner, and went directly into the face of a smaller jump with his upper body weight more forward then he wanted, and his elbow at his waste. If his elbows were up, he would not have crashed, (James made a entire show about that exact crash. Go there to analyze it).
You have raced in both worlds. Do you agree that they hold their elbows too low, (as a level lever position also indicates)? Would love to see a reply.
I like your home track a lot. Reminds me of the natural whoops I finally learned how to ride well in 2001. Bummer I never got that feeling of perfection in racing earlier. We might have met a couple times. :)
Thanks in advance Ryan man. Doug in Michigan.

Og instructor that did, and probably still can do what most can't.

Not to be confused with AJ Cantanzaro. I have no idea why a parent would want to send their kid to a school taught by a guy who could not make a main event. No hero's coming out of that camp.
The internet, (and our schools), unleashed an army of mediocrity and they are taking their places in life. Weegee, racer-x, MXA, the company who modified my suspension, it does not matter in any industry. The "New Normal" is mediocrity.
Ryan is one of the few above that new normal and the end of "functional old school". Bummer.
